so if I go to a best buy and buy the base model but want the RAM upgrade, can I bring it into an apple store and have them do the RAM upgrade for the $200? or do I have to order online :(

Ram is soldered into the logic board, no upgrading. you'll have to order the base +16Gb ram from apple website - BTO-build to order- only

Has anyone seen any store whether it be an Apple Store or Best Buy have the 2012 13" MBP in stock?

Managed to find one at FutureShop.... the guy is holding it for me until 5....leaving work in 40 mins :)

Too bad I won't be able to do the student discount though

Ah! So much for that, I got to the store and found the guy I spoke to on the phone....and the idiot didn't check the stocks properly. So I drove over an hour in traffic for nothing

I'm thinking of just forgetting about it and trying to pick one up in a few weeks

I just picked up the base model today at Best Buy and decided that I wasn't going to go for the 16gb of ram. I have to say that the display is absolutely amazing but it'll take some time before everything migrates over to the high res display.

This is an awesome piece of machinery.

Gave my information as a business customer yesterday at the Norfolk, VA store and said I wanted a rmbp. Today I got a call saying they have one and will set it aside for me. My gf is a student and they gave me the student discount as well.

Yay! Got in one in San Digeo UTC Apple Store.

It was the only Retina Macbook Pro when I got there at 12:00pm today -- a base model. I figured they weren't going to tell me they had any in stock, since with so few, it would be gone by the time anyone drove to the store.

I do feel bad for the guy who was there before me, and decided to spend time playing with the laptop, and asking questions about it. I only had one question -- will you take my money. Sorry, guy.

I arrived at the Rockaway, NJ Apple Store at 10:05 this morning and asked the sales rep about purchasing a retina MBP. He said he didn't think they had any in stock, but he would check. He came back said they had one base model and I enthusiastically plunked down my 2+g's. He seemed to imply that was the only one they had to sell all day. I hope this was not the case. Any updates from this store? Happy hunting.

Glad to hear some people are having luck at Apple stores.

There has been no positive news from central Florida Apple stores!

I concur with above post.

But I plan to buy from Best Buy anyway.

I also agree. I'll buy from anyone who has them in stock and will give me education discount, I am a usf student.

Alright, wanted to pick my MBPR from Best Buy before I posted this. You can track which ones have them or will have them soon with this link (base model):

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemp...contract_desc=2+YEARS+NEW&pageMode=searchmode

Just enter your zip code. Found two stores today that had them in my area (showed up as "Coming Soon")...chose the store with the lower taxes and called them. Have them look up the SKU (5430514 for the base model) and they should be able to hold one for you at the customer service desk. Store I called showed 2, one was probably for the display.

Anyone get this to work?

Yeah, I get a pretty good discount through my job with Apple so I am stuck waiting.

We will be waiting for a while it seems.

I've never seen so many "students" buying $2,000+ laptops.

True indeed. As a student I usually keep my budget to $1500 max. It was a sure "NO" for me when they announced the $2199 price. But after the apple discounts and best buy gift card, I think it's a very good deal and worth the extra money.

This is useful.

Almost.

Just picked up a 2.3ghz 8gb MBP+R at the apple store at The Grove in los angeles today! I got the last one apparently. It's my first time using a mac after being a long time windows user and it's pretty awesome! I wish the UI was a bit more smoother, but hopefully that can be fixed through future updates.

Just picked one up from the Best Buy on Harrison in SF! I called at 4:15 and they told me they had two base models and one 512GB. I waited around for a bus/cab from work for 30 minutes (stupid Giants game), and when I finally got there and ran to the Apple section, somebody else was buying the other one. So, it really is all timing.

And I got the $200 off and $150 gc (though the girl was initially skeptical) - definitely helped that I had the picture of the receipt! So thank you, whoever posted that :)

I'm totally giddy right now!

Oh, and the Apple Stores I called in the San Jose area told me that for business customers, the wait time was 1-2 weeks.

They all say coming soon for me. Will it say in stock if they have a few?

I would call....just give them the SKU and they can hold if for you. The operator at the phone has a form that they fill out and will attach it to the computer. I would imagine that any of the ones that say coming soon already has them or has them inbound on a truck.

Also important to note that this has been working since this afternoon for me and Best Buy's inventory will lag behind. It is possible that it is already sold, but the website hasn't been updated yet.

I imagine they both mean that shipments are coming.

I called one of the Best Buys and they said they were to get their next shipment sometime between this week and next week... So I guess this weekend is when to initially check.

If it's in the system inventory, then it should show up.

Im actually thinking of driving over to New Hampshire Best Buy to save the $175 sales tax. 0% sales tax there.

$200 - student discount
$150 - gift card
$175 - saved in sales tax

Total = $2000 flat + $150 gift card (worth the 1.5-2hour drive?)

First post in the forums and I would like to both thank and apologize to the posters from Central Florida.

Thank you for the heads up that the Best Buys in Tampa/Bradenton received shipments today as shortly after that I called the East Colonial store, which was out. The Florida Mall store who said they had just gotten two in stock but with the amount of tourists that are always in there, they would for sure be gone. Then came the Altamonte store where I was successfully able to pick up one of the only two they received (the other being for display).

I apologize for taking a local one off the market. You will get yours soon enough and it will be glorious.

Hey, I am glad to hear a fellow central Floridian has found one at an Apple store!

Congrats on your purchase man. Was it the base?
