I would call....just give them the SKU and they can hold if for you. The operator at the phone has a form that they fill out and will attach it to the computer. I would imagine that any of the ones that say coming soon already has them or has them inbound on a truck.

Also important to note that this has been working since this afternoon for me and Best Buy's inventory will lag behind. It is possible that it is already sold, but the website hasn't been updated yet.

Some of these stores don't carry apple computers at all

Just got back from Best Buy with my 2.6GHz/512GB RMBP. At first they would only give me $100 off because I'm a student, not a teacher. I explained to them the education discount and someone came over and said that yes, it is in fact $200. However, they would NOT give me the $150 Best Buy gift card because it would be "double dipping". He even had a printed out email saying that they could only give one or the other, but not both. I tried arguing with them for 15 minutes but they wouldn't budge so I just bought the thing and left. I spoke to both the supervisor and general manager and neither would apply both discounts even though I brought the picture showing a BB receipt with both discounts applied. Oh well. I'm just glad to have one. :)

I have had no luck either; I work in Burbank, live in Pomona so I called a wide-range of BB's and no one has it. Today, I guess I missed the shipment for those that came into the Montclair store. I asked about reserving a unit, but the girl I spoke to said they "don't do that." What??

I wonder: if I'm unable to reserve a machine because they "don't do that" how successful will I be in getting them to price-match Apple's student discount?

Just picked up my base retina MacBook pro from Best Buy. Was pretty easy, just walked in asked the rep and they grabbed it for me. I also received both the $200 education discount and the $150 best buy gift card. So those having trouble finding them call your local best buy and pick it up there. Much better deal then the apple store and you get reward zone pints as well.

They are reserving all new apple models and the discount is based on the store, they are supposed to match it but it's hit or miss.

First post in the forums and I would like to both thank and apologize to the posters from Central Florida.

Thank you for the heads up that the Best Buys in Tampa/Bradenton received shipments today as shortly after that I called the East Colonial store, which was out. The Florida Mall store who said they had just gotten two in stock but with the amount of tourists that are always in there, they would for sure be gone. Then came the Altamonte store where I was successfully able to pick up one of the only two they received (the other being for display).

I apologize for taking a local one off the market. You will get yours soon enough and it will be glorious.

When?

Apple's launch of this is such horse ****. They have none at all but yet the first Best Buy I called had one and offered to hold it for me... there are 5 more in the Salt Lake valley that I didn't call.

Hopefully that means apple is getting the same shipment or better in tonight and we can pick them up in the morning.

My Best Buy told me that the MBPs were first-come, first-serve but they price-matched and threw in the $150 gc (the picture of the receipt helps). IIRC BB employees are commission-based, so if you're going to buy a MBP from somewhere it might as well be from them at a discount :)

If any of you are near Birmingham, AL I just checked apple.com & they have both models available for in-store pickup at The Summit in Birmingham.

So, just got my RMBP from the Best Buy that's basically in my backyard here in Culver City. I called and asked if they have the Retina MBPs and she asked which one, the 2199? I said yes and she said to hold on. In the background (glad she didn't put me on hold) I heard her talking to another person and caught her saying "I haven't told him we have one yet". At the point I started walking there. She came back on the phone and said that they didn't have any. I called her out that I heard her say that they have some and just haven't told me yet. She responded that she said that cause she wasn't sure if I was coming now and they were first come, first serve. I told her I was 2 minutes away and rushed. When I got there I guess they were working with another person who had a return and wanted the RMBP also, I just waited patiently and she brought it over to me instead. I don't know what happened with the other guy or why, but I didn't ask. The other guy didn't look to happy, glad he didn't wait for me in the parking lot :)

When I asked about the student discount she said she wasn't sure and called over the manager. He said that they'd give me a $150 gift card but no discount. I asked why they won't price match the Apple store and he said they are and that Apple is only giving a $100 discount. I showed them my receipt from my online purchase and he said that they'd knock the price down to $1999, but no gift card.

Figured I'd go back tomorrow with the picture from the forum and see if I can't get the gift card also. Always worth hoping, either that or talk to corporate depending on how much luck people have online here.
Damn, I live right across the street. Wonder if they have any $2799 ones or if they have any 16GB ones.

Hey guys!

I am back! Seems like the receipt picture I posted earlier this afternoon have helped a bunch of people. Nothing better than getting a sweet ass deal on a hard to get product.

So, in return I ask the fellow macrumorers to help me spend $150 at Best Buy. No. I really really need help spending the money because NOTHING on BB seems worth a purchase. I could buy the same item on Amazon for significantly less.

Any good accessories to get with the retina MBP? This is my first mac ever and have no idea what to get. :)

I've got this problem too (finally used a $50 GC that I've had for two+ years). I'd get an external hard drive if you don't already have one. I'm also thinking about getting a laptop sleeve or some other Apple accessories... stuff that isn't usually discounted. I wonder if you can use the GC to buy a Mac Store GC?

Just got a RMBP at the Los Gatos Store

I'm a business customer, and called yesterday, and put my name on the list. They said it could be as long as 2-3 weeks. I was shocked when they called me today, and said they had one. Just picked it up. They said they got 6 of them, and they were all spoken for in just a few minutes. So, they are slowly making their way out to stores.

Hey, thanks a lot for that picture. I hope you don't mind I opened a new thread and used that picture so people could use it and print it out. Seems like many took advantage of it.

Anyways, I plan on just using Plastic Jungle to sell by $150 gift Card. You'll get $138.60 check mailed to you. You could probably sell it for more on eBay but after fees you'll end up with considerably less than $138.60.

Not worth buying any accessories at BB. Buy online. Personally I'm waiting for new cases by speck to come out to protect this beast.

I saw some nice thin external drives at one of my many trips to the :apple: store trying to get my hands on a RMBP

Hey, I am glad to hear a fellow central Floridian has found one at an Apple store!

Congrats on your purchase man. Was it the base?

Thanks!

Not from the apple store... from the Altamonte Best Buy.

Apple stores seem to be selling primarily to business customers.

and yes it was the base... way more than enough for me.
