Sir Al, post a screenshot of the app or I'm calling BS.

Edit: Maybe this is only for certain stores/markets...
I am in Canada so maybe it's only here, get someone from Canada to confirm it for you if you don't believe me, preferably from a Vancouver Apple Store. But I did get my RMBP through it like this.

Canada doesn't have a pickup in store option yet, so maybe that's why they just have product reservations.

Hey fellow central Floridians, I already acquired mine, but just wanted to let you guys know that the Waterford Lakes Best Buy received and sold two today.
Also, that same Best Buy is selling pre-orders on future shipments according to their Apple rep. Probably worth a shot giving them a call at least.

Good luck to all those still trying to acquire their MacBooks, and know that you will be pleased with its beauty in the end...

Also, does anyone else see value in Best Buy's protection plan? I have gotten 3 new macs by only paying for the new service plan each time. Something always happens to spill on them after a newer model comes out before the warranty is up. The computer has been replaced each time and all I bought was coverage each time.

Wow another floridian, i just picked up my macbook from the east colonial location. last one left in stock today!!!!

Apple stores are only carrying 3 configs, base, 2.6/8/512, and the "ultimate"

The ultimate has 16GB and the 768GB SSD. its also $3800

Oh well, guess I will just save up for the ultimate. I can swing it either way but my only real requirement was 16GB, and buying it in-store. It will probably increase my chances of getting one in store anyway since the base models are likely to go first.

You guys know what the worst part of this "treasure hunt" is for me, it's going to be the same as everything else I've purchased. The iPhone, the iPhone 3G, the 3GS, the 4, the 4s, the iPad, the iPad 2, the iPad 3, the old style MBP's the unibody, the newer unibodies, the cinema displays, etc. I get super excited to obtain one, I FINALLY do get one and then the excitement only lasts for a few days max and then I'm bored and on to something else I want, or whatever. It's a vicious cycle.

Who said being rich was easy?

Those of us without still feel your pain. Hang in there.

Congrats to the early golden ticket holders. Does anyone know (i.e. not speculation) whether or not the retail apple stores get shipments on the weekends?

Congratulations... Amazing piece of equipment isn't it?

no regrets at all. the hard part was for me to finish up my work for the day without tinkering with it.

For all these people saying that there is lag. yes there is lag until you update. after that everything runs super smooth. no regrets the screen is amazing.

I work for a flight simulation company. All we work on are visuals for comercial/military devices. lets just say this laptop display impressed every single one of my co workers. In fact this laptop might make my boss switch over to mac. I am extremely impressed and say it is well worth the money.

Just walked into the Best Buy in Folsom, California and asked them if they had any. First the guy had no clue what I was talking about but then I gave them the Best Buy SKU number and they looked it up and said they had five in stock.

I wanted the base model with 8GB of RAM and after looking in their back room for about 10 minutes they came out with one. I asked for the education discount and the $150 BB Gift Card. They said the education discount is only $100 off and I can't have both. I had printed out a copy of one of the other member's receipts on here and handed it to them. They made a phone call to someone (they said it was their Apple rep) and then called another person (in-store I believe) and finally agreed to doing both discounts ($200 off for education and $150 off for BB Gift Card).

After that they tried to sell me anything that was basically in their field of view as an addon.

Him: "Do you want Microsoft Office? Its on sale!"
Me: "No thanks"

Him: "Ok, do you want to purchase this Surfing Protection Plan that keeps you safe from viruses when you're on Google?"
Me: "WAT. No thanks."

Him: "But it will keep you safe from bad programs and bad websites when you're on Google because otherwise we have people coming in here everyday who mess up their computers when they get online."
Me: "No thank you, I don't want it."

Him: "Ok thats fine. I want to talk to you about our hardware protection plan. You know batteries? They cost $100 up front just to replace and if anything else goes bad, Apple won't cover the battery and other things and you know these power cords, they go bad a lot and Apple won't do anything about it so do you want to get that?"
Me: "No thanks, I'm fine without it."

Him: "Ok but do you want to get the accidental protection plan, its not too expensive and if you have an expensive computer, this can help protect it--"
Me: "No man, I don't want anything besides the computer and the gift card."
Him: "Oh...ok <BUTTHURT>."

So yeah, got the RMBP and didn't have to deal with the clueless hipsters at the local Apple store, just had to survive the used car salesman speel at the local Best Buy. If anyone else is in the area, hit up the Folsom store. Looks like inventory numbers are starting to climb up today.
I JUST had this same argument with that same store over the phone this morning!! I was unsuccessful and didn't buy it. What time did you go in? I was on the phone with them from about 10:15-10:45. I'm so tempted to print out your post and take it in to them tomorrow!
DUDE! I just got the last base model Retina version there about 30 minutes ago! I talked with a very nice lady named "Bobby" who was awesome! She held one for me that some lady apparently didn't end up buying. At first I was told over the phone that they could only give me the $150 gift card but then I got a call back from her saying that they had just come in this morning so everyone was a little confused but that they would honor the student discount on top of it! So I got a MacBook pro Retina held for me, plus $200 student discount, and $150 BB gift card made me very happy :) People in the Sacramento, CA need to call the Folsom Best Buy cause they provided me with the best service I've ever had in my life :)

That's hilarious. I was that lady!! Enjoy my computer, man. (Kidding! But I am irritated...)

Folsom seems to be a hot spot for RMBP seekers! Who knew?

As long as no one else is looking for 512GB model.

Mohsy90, you posted a picture of a receipt with serial number and order number blacked out. What could happen if those details were given out? If you don't mind explaining.

Well i'll give a couple scenarios:

If original buyer didn't apply the purchase to his reward zone, anyone could call with the receipt number and gain the points from a $2200 purchase.

Secondly, if original buyer purchased AppleCare. Anyone could use this proof of purchase and the serial number on hand to transfer it from there device to a device that you might possibly own.

These are just two. I'm no scam artist but those who are will find a variety of ways to somehow use that information to benefit themselves and possibly hurt you.

I spoke to, two Apple stores on Friday night. For what its worth, they indicated they will get shipments on Saturday.

after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true"

Thought I would document my ordeal with finding my mbpr.

I also want to thank all the posters here you have definitely helped me be successful in this this treasure hunt. I watched the feed of the WWDC on Monday on Engadget. I kept an eye on the Apple store the whole time. As soon as the store was up and running, I could have ordered one with the 5-7 day delivery window. But I thought, I can simple go to the local Apple store ( in Grand Rapids, MI) and pick one up tomorrow, why bother waiting...yeah, right!

Of course I found out later that the Apple store had none, didn't know when they would get one, etc. Quickly the online ordering was jumping to 2-3 weeks then 3-4 weeks. Since I had previously established a contact with their business group at the GR store, I emailed them to see if they could acquire one for me...got an email back saying I should order one from them with a 3-4 week wait, and this would be good since I would be developing "loyalty" which might lead to discounts in the future. Really, I need to earn their loyalty??? Don't they need to earn my loyalty by coming through with a computer for me ?

Thats when the posts of folks finding these at BB started to come in. I had never thought of that. I couldn't imagine Apple would stock BB and not there own Apple stores first. So I called my closest BB and they said they did have one in stock but when I got there, I was told it was on hold for someone else...thank you for letting me know that before I drove in. Then pac1687 ( thank you) posted a link to BB that showed which stores had these in stock. I found out that Kalamazoo had some and Lansing. So I called Kalamazoo as it is closer, and they just out and out lied on the phone...Don't have them, never had them, don't know when they will get them...asshats! So I called Lansing, had one in stock and of course they will take my name and hold it for me...awesome folks.

Lucky to find one of these, it's fantastic. Keep lookin folks and thanks again.

Oops! Sorry about that! What made you change your mind? I almost didn't get it myself cause they were knocking $200 off and I didn't have that extra cash so I called to tell them to not hold it anymore for me and then I got the call back saying they would do it which was really cool. Never had awesome service like that before :)

All of the Best Buy stores in MN that I've called have said that they don't have any, they've never had any, and that they are pre-order only right now. I even brought up that I know of people that have already purchased them from Best Buy and they don't believe me.

Apple stores I've called just give me the same canned response: "We don't have any and we have no idea when we will get any. Order them online."

I'm betting that the employees are getting tired of people asking all day.

Well, you weren't calling the right ones...

Yesterday, Richfield, Inver Grove Heights, Blain, Maplewood all had the base Retina in stock (1 available at each store for sale). When I started calling at 10:00AM the Richfield one was on hold for another customer, but Inver Grove Heights found one for me (after holding on the phone for more than 15 minutes)... I picked it up at noon, and have been enjoying this beast ever since.

----------

i wouldn't put any stock into bb putting things on hold.

they are being sold everywhere else. these people both at apple and bb have no idea what they are talking about. they just make that stuff up. you just have to have someone willing to go in the back and actually look to see if they have any.

there were a couple of times when i went to the apple store, they received the morning shipment but they had no retina's in the shipment. i watched them as they were going through the boxes.

good luck on your search!

BB Inver Grove Heights, MN held one for me (no credit card or anything). Just a name and a phone number.

I received mine at Best Buy yesterday. The customer service experience wasn't perfect (I had to wait around the store for a few hours), but it was a hell of a lot better than Apple's customer service. The store I went to didn't have one in stock, so they let me buy it over the phone and they brought it over from another Best Buy. They gave me the student discount and a $150 BB gift card. I think that Apple Stores have handled this whole thing very poorly. I've always had good dealings with Apple, but this situation is a complete disaster on their end.

For anyone interested in New Jersey, I was just in the Woodbridge store and the woman said they had a "few" of them. She didn't actually go back and check since I wasnt planning on buying one, but it's worth a shot to check it out if you're looking.

Edit: Woodbridge Best Buy that is, not an Apple Store

So, I was in the hospital recently for a spontaneous pneumothorax. Was sedated for them to put in a chest tube. After waking up, I decided to pull out my MacBook Air and do my casual browsing... Until I puked all over it. Needless to say, it zapped the motherboard. Funny story to tell people. Would have never thought that would be the way for my computer to bust.

Anywho, I took in my broken computer to the genius bar, they wouldn't look at it due to health hazard (bahaha). So the manager and I came to a conclusion. He said I can get 20 percent off ANY computer they have. I told him the one I want. He said he can't since the stock is so scarce. So in a month, I am to call him to ask about stock. If it is plentiful, then what would be a 2800 dollar laptop, will be a 2200 dollar laptop since I plan to purchase the 2.6ghz Model.

I can be patient. Time is literally money in this situation.

Lol, nice story. Smoking related?

My latest experience with International Plaza...

I call at 905 this morning. Guy answers and tells me"yes, we have several RMBP in stock and they will be for sale at 10". Jump in the car and head over. When I get there things get interesting. Store isn't open but has their Apple classes going on. Greeter ask me if I need help. Tell him I am waiting until 10 to purchase my RMBP. He immediately says " we don't have any". I let him know I called a few minutes ago and was told you did. He says let me check. He has the employee standing next to him call the back to see. He calls the back and than disappears for 5 minutes. He comes back and motions the greeter to come over (clearly so he would be out of earshot of me). At this point, its pretty clear i am not getting a RMBP. The greeter who inatially helped me than disappears to the back. He reappears 10 minutes later with Roy Abdo, the store manager. Roy introduces himself and says "we have none". When I ask why I was told differently 10 minutes ago he just repeats "we have none".....in fact, he never ever acknowledged that an employee from his store provided wrong info, never apologized or even seemed concerned with the "service" they provided. He kept repeating , like a trained parrott, "we have none"

Apple retail, especially International Plaza and manager Roy Abdo, are nothing but a sad joke. Well done Apple

Actually, time is still figuratively money even in this situation. :) I hope that you get it at that price: very awesome!

Anybody know about avaialibilty of the base model RMBP in DFW metro? All the BB stores are showing sold out and I've been stalking all 5 Apple stores here all week to no avail. Seems like people are actually having a better shot of getting these in smaller cities.....
