Yeah, I brought (and they asked to see) my company ID and my business card. They're supposed to check to give the discount which is a bit higher % than the education discount.

I already purchased my rMBP a few days ago online and there are still 3-4 weeks before it gets delivered. I'm leaving for Costa Rica in early July and I need it before then. If I were to cancel my order online, would I have to send back my $100 "Back To School" card? Or will they charge me $100 even if I didn't use it?

Also, I own a small online business, so how would I prove to Apple that the Mac would be for business use if I were to pick one up in a retail store?

They didn't ask me for any business ID or a card, just the name of the company. Then again, the store employees lied to me about when I'd be getting my MBP, so YMMV.

From Apple's website:
Returns

I purchased my qualifying product from the Apple Online Store for Education, from an Apple Retail Store, or from calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. I have already redeemed or deposited my Back to School Gift Card, can I still return my Mac or iPad?
Yes, as long as it falls within the return period of the purchase. However, your Mac or iPad refund may be reduced by $50 or $100 per redeemed Back to School Gift Card (even if no purchases have been made against the value of the card).

I purchased my qualifying product from an Authorized Apple Campus Store. I have already redeemed or deposited my Back to School Gift Card, can I still return my Mac or iPad?
Your qualifying Mac or iPad may be eligible for return based on the return and sales policy of your Apple Authorized Campus Store. Please check with your campus store.

I’m returning my Mac or iPad that was purchased from the Apple Online Store or from 1-800-MY-APPLE. Do I also need to return the Back to School Gift Card?
No, it is not necessary. If the Back to School Gift Card has not yet been redeemed or deposited into your account, the card will be deactivated. However, you will need to return your Back to School Gift Card if you purchased your qualifying Mac or iPad from an Apple Retail Store.

Has anyone shopped at the Apple stores at either Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, CA..or the one at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA? These 2 locations are the ones closest to me. I haven't called them or anything yet, but I am planning to buy my very first macbook pro in July after Mountain Lion is released (with student discount). Does anyone know if these 2 locations have any macbook pros in stock? I'm planning on getting the higher end 13" inch macbook. I am just hoping to walk in the Apple store in July, purchase the higher end 13" macbook pro and walk out a happy customer but I'm reading posts that they are reserved for business first so now I'm not sure if I should just order it online from the website? Please advise.. thanks :)

I would try Pasadena. That's where I got mine and according to the guy who helped me over there, they are one of the only stores to get regular shipments of the laptops. He said his team recieved and sold about 25 on the first day and from then on were getting around 6-7 every couple of days.

Miami?

Hello everyone!
I've been looking for the rMBP in Miami without any luck. I've been to several Best Buy's and Apple Stores and none have it in stock.
I'm leaving later today for Brazil and if I can't find it this afternoon, that means no MacBook for me.
Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated! :)

I finally managed to get one at BestBuy with the student discount. Getting them from BestBuy Canada with the student discount is going to get a lot harder. To "match" Apple's student discount they are giving away "Mac Man" which is "worth" $230. Basically they'll transfer your data from your old computer to the new one and give you free geeksquad for a year (barf). In the end I still got the $200 off (but no gift card)

Does anyone have luck getting the rMBP in Miami? Any chance to get one there in the following week?

nope :(

If the apple employees themselves don't have a clue, I don't think someone here will be able to give you the probability of finding one around in Miami within one week.
But it seems to be quite low unfortunately.

I literally called every Best Buy in NJ that is within an hour from my house as soon as they opened, with no luck.

Thanks so much for the reply!!! I will add Pasadena to my list. I was so close to just ordering it online last night but i think I'll wait til July...

I like MacMall's customer service better than Apple's.

Just got a call back from the Rockingham Park Apple Store in Salem, NH. They are holding one for me. The rep said that they work "...closely with the operations team to make sure business customers are taken care of." I've made purchases for my company before, so I was already in their system, which helped, I think.

The discount was not as good as I could have gotten with edu, but still cheaper and better than waiting.

Clearly not many are considering the upgrade to 16GB RAM. Remember... start with 8 and end with 8. FS and Bestbuy don't have 16GB versions. Base models of the 2.3 and 2.6.

I finally snagged a Retina MBP today at the Apple Store in Greensboro, NC. If anyone lives here, they have a few in stock left. I asked if they had all models and he said that he thought so. I got the base model. Has anyone else received them at their local Apple Store? It seems like very few are...
Good luck to everyone trying to get one!

So, with a tremendous amount of luck, I finally got one. I went to the Houston Highland Village store this morning at 10 when they opened, but they had not gotten a shipment in. After that, I began talking with a couple of really nice employees (and playing with the MBPr for awhile). I was about to leave when a nasty rainstorm came, so I decided I would wait it out. I was playing on one of the iMacs, when another employee came up and asked if I needed help. I told him no, I was just here to see if you had any MBPr's in stock. To my surprise, he was like "Yes actually, we do!" I didn't really know what to say (kind of in shock), but apparently, while I was waiting for the rain to go away, the FedEx truck had arrived with 3 MBPr base models and they sold them all within those few seconds.

So now I am typing this up on my new MBPr and I feel like the luckiest dude on the planet right now. I guess this goes to show that you really do have to be in the right place at the right time for Apple launches. Good luck to all of you still hunting, hopefully they will start getting more soon.
