Anyone knows if the high end no-Retina MBP with antiglare is in stock in Miami? I'll be there next week and with the stories here I doubt I can get a base model rMBP. ):

People in the NJ area, definitely try the Apple Store at The Pier in Atlantic City. Not that many people go there, especially in the morning because it is in the middle of Caesars' Palace. They had a lot and I showed up at 12pm and they were so excited to see that someone came in to buy one.

Good luck! It's an incredible machine! :apple:

Order it online then look locally! You can always cancel your online order if you find one in CA

You guys might wanna tryout MacMall tomorrow as well

I wish I had the time to look locally. I have work 5 days a week. I get out at 5pm and by then I'm so tired to do anything else. Also by 5pm, I'm pretty sure that even if Apple stores did have a few macbooks in stock, they would be all sold out by then right? I don't think I want to take a random day off just to go on a macbook pro hunt :p I guess I can look on the weekends though... I think maybe I'll order it online sometime next week.

Also once Mountain Lion is released, will the macbook pros made after that will have Mountain Lion installed or will you still have to upgrade it yourself? Sorry if this is a dumb question... I've never owned a macbook before so the one I buy in the near future will by my first :)

If you buy it now, it will come with Lion but you can get free upgrade when Mountain Lion is out. Upgrading is easy. just click install at App Store... If you buy it preinstall, then you will only have Mountain Lion rather than two to choose from

They had a couple of the 512-GB models at my local Best Buy - I called to have them hold one for me - but they said they would not honor the education price....

If anyone in Calgary is looking for a base model, just PM.
I love the screen but finding the overall size just too large.

Has anyone had any luck in Orange County, CA? I have checked nearly all of the Best Buys and the Irvine, Mission Viejo, South Coast, and Fashion Island Apple Stores. All with no success.

Im right in that same area with you. Let me know if you have luck...i work right next to Fashion Island and always nothing....

So if I buy one now, I'll be able to to go back and forth from using Lion to Mountain Lion?

No luck calling Best Buy or the Apple store. Apple store seems to have them but only for Business customers and kept telling to order it online and check back with them then cancel my online order if they get any...This is very frustrating...

Should I just be the first one at the doors when they open and test my luck? Anybody who tried Apple store when they open?

I got one today at one of the DFW stores....

I was also successful in picking one up in DFW, TX today (base model) at the University Store in Fort Worth. That said, I only received it because I signed up as a "business customer" a few days ago and they subsequently called me this morning saying they had just gotten two models (256 & 512). They demanded I give them a credit card # over the phone saying they had "a whole bunch of people" that would buy it right away unless I did.

NOTE: In the past 7 days I have visited no less than 3 DFW-Area Apple Stores trying to locate one of these things to no avail. It was a very frustrating process that didn't leave me with the best opinion of Apple. And for you guys still without, I strongly recommend you get onto a "business waiting list" ASAP to improve your chances. They do not verify you have a real business (although I do), in fact they didn't even ask for a business card or any kind of verification. If you do not do this, you will have to wait until all the business orders in the stores are fulfilled and only then will they begin selling them to non-business customers.

I was wondering about this too. Do I have a better chance being the first one at the store or is it just luck if you're there when the shipment comes?

I had success at the Grand Central Station store in NYC today. Ever since the EDC keynote, I'd been watching this thread. Online ordering seemed like too long of a wait, and I had stopped at my store at Arrowhead Mall in Phoenix, but no luck. We're in New York on vacation this week, and while walking around today I said to my sister "I'm going to buy a laptop" jokingly, knowing my chances were slim in finding the new Pros. My intent was just simply to check out how cool the Grand Central store looked, and btw it's awesome! Walked in, asked the specialist if they had any, and she said they did -- 20 minutes later I had it in my hands. What are the odds?

Yup. You can expect that there will be others waiting as well. Best to get there 15-30 mins before. They always receive a shipment the day before and sometimes don't unpack it until the next morning.

So I got the $2799 model in Century City Apple Store today. After the fiasco with the "business" department, the business manager spoke with me after I emailed them. She said she had the 2799 model in hand and would hold it for me, and could return it when I get the one I wanted.

I can say that I'm very impressed with the text and how everything looks. Mountain Lion runs beautifully here. However, the one thing I miss the most, is the screen real estate that I'm used to with my 17". However, I'll probably just hook this up to my 27" Cinema Display and be just as happy. I'm definitely feeling the want for 16GB, but with this, I can wait the 3-4 weeks they say.

Got one of mine today.

I almost feel bad. I called this morning and asked about the business pricing (I have a tech blog) and then was told it would be 3-4 weeks so I told them I would take my chances because I need two of them. So I hung up the phone and received a call back 5 minutes later saying they are holding one for me but no discount of any sort. I'm an MBA student so not getting a discount wouldn't work for me. That's $200 off plus $100 in gift card so I wasn't going to go that route. I went to the store anyway since they were holding it and told them I would be crazy to pass on the student discount so they sold it to me with the discount but I could tell they weren't happy and I felt like a jerk for some reason but it is what it is.

Typing on it now. Keyboard seems a bit more loose I think. Not in a bad way. Screen is beautiful but the speed is why I bought it and it's blazing fast. Makes the old 17" see like a PC.

I got mine at MacMall in Huntington Beach - their website said how many they had in stock, they were willing to hold one for me until I got there and they honored the education pricing (but no gift card).

Does anyone else feel as though Apple is really holding out on their customers on this deal? Is this typical of a badass new product release? We all know they are all completely full of **** saying they don't have them and have no idea when they will get them. If they would just sell what they have, they would be making a TON of money. It seems like they are doing everything in their power to make people order online. Some of us just want instant gratification, even if we don't get the exact specs we want. I did end up ordering from Apple's website since I'm tired of dealing with their ********, and ordered the exact specs I wanted. Now to sit and wait the 3-4 weeks, ugh!

Good to know. I will try that MacMall tomorrow. Especially with all of the news here about them getting them in tomorrow (today). I chatted with them online and multiple representatives told me they don't honor educational pricing. How did you manage to get it?

Has anybody had any luck in San Diego, or anywhere in southern California for that matter? I'm on a waitlist for one at the MacMall in Huntington Beach, but if they won't give me an educational discount I might have to just keep trying my luck at Apple stores.

re: San Diego Luck

re: San Diego

I live in La Jolla, and I was on the business waiting list at UTC. They kept telling me they had not received shipments. Last Thursday I went into the UTC Apple Store and two people informed me they had not gotten any. A third employee piped in and said they had gotten a shipment that day and sold them all.

I decided to start calling Best Buys - located base models in Mira Mesa and Oceanside. An Oceanside Best Buy employee found the $2,799 model in Murrieta. I called, they reserved it, and I drove the hour each way to get it.

The next evening, the business rep at Apple called saying they had a computer for me. ;)

Apple can be hit or miss, but I suggest calling Best Buys and asking them to check stock at other local stores.

Best of luck. Let us know if you find one.

The base model + 16GB RAM upgrade popped up on the store this morning. If the thing ships next week, that's still in the 1-2 week estimate. Keep the faith :)

catalyst:

latest chats with B&H Customer Service basically say they dont know any ETA, I even asked about the base model.. apparently they said they have never had one in stock:

You have been connected to Simon R.
optics261 : <financial stuff cut>... also looking for a revised ETA on my order.
Simon R: Hello optics261. My name is Simon, and I will be glad to assist you. Please give me a few moments to begin working on your inquiry.
Simon R: You were initially not charged, we updated the authorization charge to reflect the correct amount.
optics261: seems that have been updated in the other direction
optics261: see my screenshot here : <cut>
Simon R: I will email you a confirmation of your order
Simon R: This is a new item, no arrival date known at this time
optics261: are arrival dates known for any of the other Macbook 15.4 with Retina Display
Simon R: Unfortunately not
optics261: or is it just my configuration which is unknown.
optics261: so b&h number APMBPMC975LL, you've never had it in stock before?
Simon R: That is correct
optics261: ok
optics261: thanks.
Simon R: Is there anything else I can help you with today?

has anyone heard anything different from b&h recently? they are offering applecare really cheap in a bundle... so I'm sticking with them to get it eventually, but I have no hopes its happening within the next week.. I feel I'm looking at a 4 week wait at least.
