Finally good news!

Yesterday I got a call from Apple Business telling me it will be a "while" and to order online. I guess a "while" is 1 day. At around 1030 today Apple Business called to let me know they have my RMBP and will hold it until the end of the day. Just got back from picking it up.

This morning I called about 3-4 different Best Buys in my area, and they were all out of stock. I then called the Apple Store that is at Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City, NJ. They seemed clueless, so I was very doubtful. Long story short, I sucked it up and drove an hour to the store and they had plenty for the 4-5 people who were there to pick one up. They were really nice, and gave me my education discount ($200) and the $100 Back To School gift card. SO happy!

Thanks everyone for your information! I would never make it 3-4 weeks lol :)

It's weird because I talked to the Business team as well. I had them put me down on their "list" a while back. When I called today, they said they have them in-stock but couldn't hold one for me. I asked "even though i'm a business customer" and he said yes. Weird how some are holding it for people and some aren't.

It seems they are either changing their stance or just a matter of inconsistency between stores.

This morning I was surprised as well. I called the business representative, and stated the company I work for and they only offered to order one for me. He then went on to say it would be about 3-4 weeks. I asked why I should order from the store if the wait was the same as ordering online? He mentioned I'd have a point person to go to for order status/support etc.

Pretty disappointing.

Everyone PLEASE READ THIS:

Nobody can find them because Apple is currently hogging them for business owners because they get a higher profit.

I got mine today, but not without a huge argument and fighting.

I called this morning to see if they had any, she said no, and was very kind. I explained how I have been looking for one everyday as my old macbook is dying. She then asked if I used it for "business purposes". I said sure, since I have developed an iPhone app and do video editing as a youtube partner. She then added me to a "special list" and would personally call me when it came in stock.

Lo and behold, about 3 hours later I got a phone call from Apple saying my rMBP was ready to pick up.

When I got there, the lady did not want to give me student discount. She said I was buying it as a business account(which I didn't even know I was, all she had asked me about originally was why I used it, she never told me anything about being a business consumer and no student discount would apply or any thing ).

When I told her I wasn't going to buy it without the student discount, she told me it was ok because there was plenty of people in line that would be willing to pay full price for it.

She then went on to say they are holding all retina macbook pros from consumers(aka public) until their business users all get one as they get a higher profit margin. I told her that was VERY unethical. Everyone is entitled to the new macbook, not just business owners. It should be first come first serve!

She also said she didn't estimate consumers to be able to get their hand on one until a few weeks. I argued that when Apple said "Available Today", it didn't say "Available only to business costumers".

After arguing she finally gave in and gave me my student discount, and told me it was very nice of her because they aren't suppose to be doing that.

So, right now Apple(or my store at least) wants to just make the biggest profit as possible by selling it to business users who get a smaller discount.

not true I have a large buisness account and called to place my order at Chicago flag ship store and I am still waiting !

If you want a retina macbook pro, you are going to have to get on their " business list" because that is what they are doing. As soon as they get one in stock, they give it to whoever is next on the list. Why this list isn't for both consumers and business users baffles me. They are getting a sale no matter what.

If you call Apple and they say they don't know, truth is they are getting a few a day(1-3ish) and it goes directly who is on their list.

this is inaccurate I am a large buisness customer and placed my order at Chicago apple store and I am still waiting!

Every Apple Store and Best Buy in the Chicagoland area is sold out now that I got the last rMBP from the Best Buy in Countryside, Illinois... they sold me the rMBP that was supposed to be used as their display... talk about luck.

Just called around and one of my best buys said to check back because they "should be getting more next week." Maybe that applies to all best buys.

Yeah it's weird. The business team did send me emails and called me telling me they had them in stock but couldn't hold it for me. Luckily I got there in time and they still had some in-stock.

Picked mine up today at the Apple Store Country Club Plaza, Kansas City, MO. Opted for the 2.6 with 512 SSD and 8GB RAM. I think stores are finally getting decent size shipments in :)

UPDATE:

Never did find a MBPR in stores but got mine today via FedEx (7-9 days till shipping with 2-3 day shipping).

It's amazing!

Same here...no special treatment for business customers. Just got off the phone with the business representative and the wait is no shorter (3-4 weeks). I asked him if it would be faster to order through one of the Apple stores and he said that it wouldn't matter for me because the stores won't stock the model that I want and would have to order it through them anyway. :(

I just drove out 30 minutes to my local Apple store at Walden Galleria in Buffalo around 1pm and had the absolute WORST experience ever. (Someone from their store told me on Sat. that they were expecting a shipment today around 1pm.) While waiting quite awhile for a specialist, I noticed that someone had decided not to purchase their rMBP and his specialist took back the rMBP so I interrupted him and immediately and asked "May i purchase that one?" For whatever reason, the specialist hesitates, and tells me as I watched the BS unfold, "No, this one is on reserve, but I'll check if we have anymore in the back." As I expected, he goes to the back for less than 5 seconds, and then comes out saying "they're all out, and we don't know when we'll be receiving anymore." Then he does his bul*sh** demonstration of how you can order it online. (No shi* buddy, I'm here so I don't have to wait 3-4 weeks). While he tells me this, I overhear another person purchasing his rMBP and his specialist tells him, "you're very lucky, we just got 2 in this morning and you got the last one." Clearly, I saw the two boxes of the rMBP, the one from the person who decided not to purchase it, and the other "lucky guy." I don't understand why they wouldn't let me purchase the one that the first person refused to buy cuz clearly there's no "reservations" on these new rMBPs.

They are letting business customers reserve them. Maybe they have a backlog of biz customers waiting

I went into the east end Ottawa, ON store yesterday afternoon to ask about availability.

First response was it's a couple weeks away from showing up, was told to try again "when they make it into stores". When told that BB had already received them, as well as Apple stores, much frenzied discussion between staff ensued...

Finally a guy checked the computer, said nothing right now, but told me which days trucks come in (Mon, Wed, and Fri) and said that they get unloaded during the afternoon and the stock gets put out after closing. He offered to see where they were at with the current truck, which he figured had just arrived, but came back empty handed.

I went to take a leak, and when walking back out towards the doors, randomly ran into the same guy who said that he just found out that they actually had some in stock in the back, but not on display. When I said I would buy one and test it out since they didn't have any display models he said ok. I asked him to bring me the best spec one he had, he came out a minute later with a 2.6 and said it was the only one in the store.....funny how life works sometimes.....

I'm posting on it right now and I think I like it.

I was at the Seattle store yesterday afternoon checking them out in person before I made my order. I overheard an employee telling another customer that all they had were the display models and weren't expecting them for sale any time soon.

This is similar to the response I got from the Business team in Grand Rapids MI with the added flavor that I should place a three to four week order with them because I would be building "loyalty"??? Really, shouldn't they be earning my loyalty by getting me a MBPR? Anyway, thanks to the folks on here, I found one of the last ones at a BB in MI. For some reason, I'm not feeling too Loyal to the AS Business team.

Has anyone had any luck in Orange County, CA? I have checked nearly all of the Best Buys and the Irvine, Mission Viejo, South Coast, and Fashion Island Apple Stores. All with no success.
