If your in Alberta the Red Deer Futureshop is showing the 2.6/512 in stock.
Could make an online order with in store pickup if your in RD or feel like a nice drive from Calgary or Edmonton :)

Good to know. I will try that MacMall tomorrow. Especially with all of the news here about them getting them in tomorrow (today). I chatted with them online and multiple representatives told me they don't honor educational pricing. How did you manage to get it?

They just said they did. They have a policy I found somewhere that said the price match but when I asked they just said yes and needed something with my employee number ( so they do check).

I don't usually post here. In fact I usually come to Mac rumors for information and to validate that I'm not really insane because some people here take crazy to entertaining levels :) with that said I thought I would mention hudington beach macmall has 30 in stock again (why are they constantly getting so many?) and they price match the student discount but not the gift card. I have one on hold for me. Finally this search is over.

rMBP Availability in Northern NJ

I live in NJ and the closest Apple Store to me is Tice's Corner in North Bergen county.
I've called them everyday for almost a week now, and surprise, surprise - no luck with availability for the rMBP's.
I only need the base model ($2199) Retina, which might help, and after reading various posts here, Albany had some as of two days ago and now Grand Central as of yesterday...
Do you think it's only a matter of days before the rMBP's arrive in Northern NJ?
Should I go in-store instead of calling seeing as how most people here have had luck doing so?

it's always best to go in store b.c even when they are getting them they seem to be telling people they are not in stock. That makes sense b.c they get ~5 and sell out right away.

okay its june 20th:

Do you have updates from the best buy front in getting stock today?

I want my computer!!!

If you're in California, go to MacMall's retail stores! According to their website, they have a BUNCH of base models in stock!!

re: San Diego

I live in La Jolla, and I was on the business waiting list at UTC. They kept telling me they had not received shipments. Last Thursday I went into the UTC Apple Store and two people informed me they had not gotten any. A third employee piped in and said they had gotten a shipment that day and sold them all.

I decided to start calling Best Buys - located base models in Mira Mesa and Oceanside. An Oceanside Best Buy employee found the $2,799 model in Murrieta. I called, they reserved it, and I drove the hour each way to get it.

The next evening, the business rep at Apple called saying they had a computer for me. ;)

Apple can be hit or miss, but I suggest calling Best Buys and asking them to check stock at other local stores.

Best of luck. Let us know if you find one.

I just picked one up today from the Fashion Valley Apple store... They had 6, 3 base models and 3 high end models, Zero Ultimates.

While I was there I got the last base model...

Purchased one in Houston-Highland Village Apple Store. They would not confirm how many they had, only stated that they had "limited quantities". The first sales person I spoke to stated they had none in stock without even checking.

I was on the fence for a while, but I think I'm going to get one. I've had good luck with the "just show up at the Apple store" approach in the past. I really like the element of chance involved, because they do (except for this "is it for business" crap) just do first-come-first-served.

I like to buy at the store. I see the guy with the pony tail who sold me my mac mini in 2007 (at another store before this branch opened), I see the genius bar dude who was not helpful one time (hassled me about repairing my macbook because I'd pulled the hard drive and made me come back another day) then super helpful the next time (free out-of-warranty repair), and so forth.

Thanks to those who are posting. I'll be sure to return the favor and post when/if I find one of these in stock. They're $3K machines, demand can't be THAT high, right??

You would think... but I mean I've called 6 Apple Stores and a Best Buy. No dice.

Just got back from MacMall in Huntington Beach. The site listed 29 in store, and when i called they said sure enough! Just got back picking up a base model from them and they still had 24 left. The other Socal locations were showing even more stock (Torrance and Santa Monica).

Wanted a larger unit but figure i will just use this one for a few years before upgrading to a newer release at that time.

How is it that MacMall has that many in stock but Apple stores don't!?

Good news for NJ folks! Talked to my local Apple Store (Tices Corner) late today and they said they got a few rMBP's in today! Of course, they all sold out, but at least we now know the shipments are finally arriving!
I also got the same response from the Grand Central Station Apple Store!

Anyone in the UK no of any stores holding them? Whats the best strategy? I'm phoning up every day and they say they don't have any (at 9:30 am). To double check I've been down there twice in the last week and the staff also said they didn't have any...but I just don't seem to believe them. I'm in Cardiff btw...but I'm going to London so holding hopes up for Regent Street there and White City..

does macmall offer and education discount? how about a matching gift card like apple and best buy?

I picked one up at the Apple store at Arden in Sacramento today!! I've been calling them everyday and getting the same answer, so I didn't think I really had a shot at today being any different, but I called at 11:45 and they told me they had just unpacked a shipment of 5 retinas!! I work nearby so I dropped everything and raced over there. Bought one of two of the base models. SO EXCITING!

When I got there, the first employee I spoke to gave me the same "Sorry, we don't have any" line. I told her someone had just told me otherwise 10 minutes earlier, so she got on her walkie and asked someone in the back. Sure enough, they brought one out a few minutes later. So, this just confirms my initial guess that the majority of them don't really know what's going on. You just have to get lucky.

For anyone else in the area, I did also get an email from Best Buy today (Arden store) confirming my spot on their waiting list. I was number 3 as of about 4 days ago. I know they're expecting to get them in sometime soon, so it might be worth a shot to get on their list. Obviously I won't need my spot anymore. Most of the other BBs in the area weren't doing lists as of a few days ago, but things may have changed since then.

I had no problem getting the student discount from the salesperson at MacMall. They just required some proof, such as a Student or Faculty ID. Unfortunately, they were unable to match the $100 gift card.

Got mine from Ardmore suburban square! Mine is the last one they got (2.6/8/512).They told me that they have shipments coming in everyday.

Hooray, I finally got one after 3 consecutive attempts to purchase through the retail store. Luckily I stood around after asking for availability, otherwise I wouldn't have met such an awesome guy who notified me of new shipments a few minutes later! There were a total of 4 units in inventory at Ala Moana Hawaii right now.

Retina MacBooks around Vancouver

I have been trying since Day 1 of the Retina MacBook Pro release at all the Apple Stores around Greater Vancouver, Canada. There are a total of four stores to look at and none seem to have any and all have absolutely no idea when they're coming in. I was just wondering if anyone around here actually got one from any of the stores (either Pacific Center, Metrotown, Richmond or Oakridge). And I was also wondering what the best strategy is for checking store stock...I was told about the Apple Store App and the reservation service, but I don't entirely trust the information is realtime. Also I've called, but I keep getting the exact same answer, "We have none, and we have no idea when they're coming." What time during the day do stores get these shipments?

Congrats! Glad you found one. First person I've actually heard from that picked one up at a San Diego Apple Store.

Check Bestbuy and Futureshop, they have had them over the last few days.
You can check online then bring up the stock for near by stores and place a instore pickup

I found 3 that way, only purchased one :)
