In terms of the base 2.3GHz MacBook Pros with Retina display, MacMall stores in Southern California (Huntington Beach, Santa Monica and Torrance) all have 20+ shipments as of this morning. MacMall in Chicago, Illinois also has 10 shipments as of this morning. In my experience, they can hold it for you, and they match Apple's Education discount but not the gift card promotion. I've heard conflicting experiences though, so you might want to call in and ask just to make sure.

I've also heard Amazon sporadically shipping orders online but they still show "Temporarily Out of Stock" for both models.

To make a long story short, I stopped at the Apple Store in Stanford and they had some in stock, on the handheld it was showing the base model in stock but reports from the back were that they were out of stock. I then saw someone come in, say he had a computer reserved and they delivered the retina to him. So I am assuming that the base models they had in the back were being saved for business customers, frustrating to me who is trying to buy one with a student discount. Anyways, I am still looking in the Bay Area haha. Fingers crossed that I will be able to pick one up before the weekend.

Please let me know if you get lucky. I'm also looking in the Bay Area. Berkeley and Walnut Creek Apple stores don't have it (at least they told me so on the phone)

Purchased a 2.6/512/8 in Salem, NH today. They had lots of them.

Best buy in nashua, nh has 3 retina macbook pro base models in stock I just bought one.

Too bad they don't offer the $200 off and $100 iTunes gift cards for students :(

Has anyone been able to get the 2.7 GHz, 16GB, 768GB rMBP in DFW area? The Knox and Willow Bend Apple stores both had the base model in stock today.

I called and asked, they initially told me no they didn't have any. I asked if they wouldn't mind checking the back again. They came back and told me they had a few and that it was first come first serve.

I went down to the store, and got a base retina.

For those that live around OC, The Apple Store in South Coast are getting a decent load of shipments everyday. Don't bother calling, they will just tell you no stock, likewise for all the stores around the area (Fashion Island, Irvine).

They usually unpack around 12:00-12:30PM. I suggest showing up at 12PM and just keep asking. Saw four retinas sold in front of my eyes within 5 minutes.

from the posts today it feels like the situation is improving by the day a bit everywhere.
I will try to grab one on a one day stop in the US next Thursday (miami). Whish me good luck :D

Frisco, TX also had base model as of 4 p.m. Sounds like DFW area has a bunch.

ARgh I hate it. I don't have time to drive all the time just to check whether, by chance, they might have one! I wish they said that they do hen they do on the phone..

I agree. I was on the way to South Coast Plaza anyway, I called the Apple store while in the downstairs parking garage near the Apple store and got the sorry no stock, nothing came in today, you can order it online. Went up the escalator, walked in and bam in stock!

In all honesty, I'm sure they are getting a phone call every 30 seconds asking the same question for a Macbook Pro with Retina. Its easier to say no stock. :D

I have been calling the Folsom, Ca best buy everyday. The people on the phone have been very nice. They looked on the computer and it said there was none in stock with 7 coming in. They were very informative and searched other stores to see if they have any in stock.

For the past 5 days, its been saying they have base models coming. I asked them when do you know when you have something in stock. They said right away because once it hits off the truck, it gets scanned and then populated into the best buy stock inventory.

So because of this i havent been going in to ask. I feel like, there is no way they just come back and be like "oh well well look what I found!!!"

I don't know how the apple stores do it but this is my assessment from the best buy stores.

I've been checking in on Best Buys also because of the Apple Store holding their stock for business people BS. I just hope Best Buy doesn't give trouble about matching education discount and gift card. The Best Buys tell me the same thing that their shipment is "coming soon" but it's been days that they've told me that. They also say that their warehouse has hundreds...so what the hell is taking so long for the trucks to unload their stock into stores? The woman I talked to today was helpful and checked the Apple section and the computer to make sure that they hadn't gotten the shipment yet.

It's weird. I really hate calling Apple stores because of the automated guy who asks what I'm calling for and if it's for home/business. The employees are also really unhelpful and just flat out say NO and clearly give you the impression that they don't want to give you info besides ordering online. The Best Buy is an easy keypad punch away from talking to someone and the employees actually try to help you out with some info. Strange that I'm preferring the BB experience over Apple Stores right now.

Success! I used the link provided in the other thread on this forum titled "READ How to get BestBuy discount for new RETINA MBP" to search Best Buy's inventory.

I've used the link several times with stores in every area reporting 'Out of Stock.'

Today however, I did the search again, and two stores said 'Coming Soon' while all the rest still said they were out of stock. On a whim, I decided to call the closer one of the two stores, and asked them to check their inventory for me. Sure enough, the guy said that there were "3 in the system" he then told me "hold on, let me go see if I can get my eyes on them, they might already be in some customers cart, walking around the store." 5 minutes later, he came back on the phone and said "Ok, I got you the last one, one of them was already sold (within the 5 minutes) and the other is going on display, so I got this one for you, and I have it in my hands right now."

Mind you, I live an hour away, but I asked him to hold it for me and he said he would. An hour later, It was there waiting for me in all it's glory!

Here's the link for anyone interested: http://alturl.com/bvdbu

If you search for your area and see 'Coming Soon', I'd call or go in asap!

Edit: I just checked my zip code again and the store I got mine at is showing as out of stock. For an example of what I'm talking about, search for area code '33907' (which is Fort Meyers, Fl)

I have been calling my Fort Worth Apple Store for the last 10 days, been into the store 4 times to check and see if they had them in yet...

I called them this morning at 10am and they told me to call back at 1pm, they will know by then if they had any...

I called back at 1pm and was told they received a VERY limited number of Retina MacBook Pros, but they were the base model only, and that if I wanted one I should get to the store before they are gone.

10 minutes later I get to the store (I live close), I was told they only had the base model, and only had one of them. I really wanted the 2.6/512GB model, but I said I would take the one they had, "Let''s do it"

The Apple Rep goes back to the back of the store and comes back with one, he says..."Read the specs" -- it is a 2.6GHz/512GB model!!! WOW!! They had ONE, and yes, I mean ONE -- he told me it had been reserved for pickup and the person never came to pick it up....so I got the only one.

Glad I ended up with this one, and glad I got one from Apple (so soon), and not having to wait 3-4 weeks, or resorting to the eBay route and paying $3500 for one (which is ridiculous). Still had to pay tax on it, which is a bummer, but I'm just glad my antsy impatient self now has a Retina MacBook Pro.

So yes, I lucked out, but happy now. VERY LUCKY

Finally some positive news. I don't know how the gods have praised me but I just met a best buy personel that can actually ORDER me a macbook PRO with retina.

This was something no other best buy personel could do on previous days. She was confident she can do and she even showed me. It was a different interface then what everyone tried to use. But I can order mine today, put on my best buy credit card, get the student discount and she says my order will come in on the 26th.

I'm tired of calling and I just want to move on with my life. I have deadlines and can't be thinking of this everyday. I also asked if i can a macbook pro whenever the default shipments came in. She didn't now if I can because mine was seperate order but i'll talk to customer service if that came up. All i know is, Atleast I paid for it and secured a position.

Congrats dude. Did you get the $200 off and the $150 gift card from Folsom or did they only do one of them?
