After my bad luck at the Stanford store, I was heading into San Francisco and decided to check on the Retina's on a whim as I was going to be walking by the store. I popped in and met with a lady - she told me that they might have some and could check. She checked on the device and said they were sold out. I asked if she could check the back. She asked the back - they replied they were sold out. Bummed, I headed for the display models.
I decided to ask another employee - another guy came up and asked if I needed any help. I then told him I was looking for the retina's, blah blah, been to a million stores, all sold out, etc. Then another employee comes up and says "Three left". The first guy then says "come with me quick" we run to the back of the store and he secures me the 2nd to last Base model

I'm typing this in the store on my new macbook retina and I still can't believe it lol. The point of the story I guess is to be persistent and just keep trying! It feels amazing when you finally get it

Best Buy/ Tukwila WA
I picked one up at the Best Buy in Tukwila, WA. I noticed the "Coming Soon" icon for the store and I went in hoping they would have one. The rep said he did not have any in stock and would check the computer to see when the next shipment would come in. He said his system showed 3 of the base model were in stock 256/8GB/2.3 and went to the back to get one. He said they were literally taking them off the truck when he went back there.
So there might be two more there if you are in the Seattle area.

The point of the story to me is that the Apple Stores are really sucky nowadays lol. Seriously, why are there so many inconsistencies. If they're sold out, they should be sold out. If there's some in the back, sell it. Why is it that you have to ask multiple employees and just hope that one of them is nice enough to actually help you. It's annoying when your success is really all up to luck.
Well, I agree that it sucks to keep trying one's luck. I've tried several Apple Stores and Best Buys in NYC with no luck. Can anyone give pointers on where one might find this elusive rMBP in NYC?
I am following this thread for the same reason and there has been no report of success or inventory in Miami so far.
Found a Best Buy about an hour away that has RMBP in stock, I'll be there when they open in the morning.
ended up getting 150 off and 150 GC.
UPDATE:
So i came back to best buy to finalize my order. Interestingly, the guy who rang up my order was talking to another dude. Apparently this 150 price match + 150GC is actually over. Like Best buy won't honor that. But because he saw me earlier, he let me have it. The interesting part was they couldn't run the original offer, the system won't let them. So they just took $300 off the price of my Macbook Pro.
EVEN BETTER!!!!! I get my computer on wednesday. which works out because i'm gone for 4 days.

Just picked one up (base model) from the Georgetown (DC) store. Have been calling and going in periodically to check on them. Called in and spoke to business sales today, they were able to hold one for me for about 10 minutes until I got to the store. They were very helpful and friendly when I arrived. Apparently this store has only gotten about 10 in over the course of the last week and almost all of them have gone to business customers.
So anyway, that might be your best bet if you haven't gotten one yet.

Has anyone actually seen or heard of a 2.6 rMBP (the middle one) in a store? I went to a store, was told they had all 3 by a manager, but then they didn't have them when they actually checked. All 3 sounds unlikely at

For those of you in NJ, the Best Buy in Union had 4 in stock (3 now after I got mine ) as of 10:30 this morning. They might still have them left, and these weren't preorder ones, I asked. Just first come first serve

Anyone near Boloxi, MS.. the Best Buy in Gulfport has a few RMBP's in stock. I bought 1 this morning, they had 3 left and I believe 1 of those is becoming a display unit.
Just picked up a base model RMBP at the Burlington MA location. I called at about 11:30 to the business account line. The rep put me on hold for about 10 minutes then came back on the line and said he would hold one for me! He said "we don't usually do this but if you can get here soon we can hold it for a little while." I didn't even have to ask.
Stopped reading after "spoke to business sales" lol. That means they'll actually sell you a MBP.
I just called two Apple stores. I might just be paranoid but they both answered me like "we're out of stock tehehehe"...So annoying.

Did you get the edu discount and gift card? I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm that Best Buy stopped doing this like "Dammit Cubs" reported.
Thanks for the tip. It's a shame. BB must have realized that they were giving an awesome deal by giving away a $100-150 gift card lol.
They offered $100 off if I had the printed out coupon and a $150 best buy giftcard. Unfortunately my daughter is at school right now, but they did say they would price adjust it, if I brought the coupon and her in.
