Well, the fact I got the $200 off education discount + didn't have to wait a month to get the computer was worth it to me. I'm spending over $2,000 dollars anyway, I wasn't gonna try and fight for $100 gift card.
I've been calling the Cerritos store for the past 3 days, and each time was told they don't have any in stock.
I ended up picking mine up today at Manhattan Village. I know they received several base models each day for the past 2 days. Not sure if you want to drive that far.
Menlopark Mall in Edison NJ here.
Went in yesterday and was told they sometimes get shipments in the morning and they sell out quick.
I go back in this morning about 45 minutes after opening and ask this big dude if any retinas are available. He wouldn't even look at me as he said, "I don't believe we've ever carried them." I smelled ******** but was disappointed.
Played around the store for another 10 minutes and asked another employee if this store has ever had any because I've been getting mixed stories and he told me he is 100% positive they have some in the back. It wasn't coming up in the official inventory so he told me to hang back and he'll check.
After another 15 minutes of waiting he was able to grab me one. He told me they're usually reserved for business and how it didn't feel fair to not sell any to regular consumers. In the end, I got the education discount but I bought me apple care even though I didn't plan onto yet because I was so happy.
I agree with the other poster who said be persistent!

Went to the apple store in Tulsa they did not have any would not even go look.. Manager said I could not get my discount though my employer at the apple store and would have to order online to get it. So on my way home pulled into Best Buy they had a base model and matched my discount..

Has anyone had any luck at any of the Apple Stores in the Vancouver area? I almost got one from BB, but they didn't offer the discount (maybe Canadian BB doesn't offer it?) I've been trying everyday since launch and got so many different stories. After being left alone, I went ahead to open ALL the files through finder. To me amazement, they did open, though gradually. Still quite amazing to me.

Yes, I was able to pick one up in Easton on June 14th. I showed up in the store right after they opened (10AM) as they mentioned over the phone that shipments typically come in late morning (10-11:30AM). They happened to get a few in. Although I have not called Polaris in about a week, every time I called they said verbatim "No, we do not have any in stock. We have yet to receive a single shipment and we have no idea when we'll get any. We have been directing people to order them online." One gentlemen went so far as to say "it would probably be quicker to order on-line". In my opinion, it is very unlikely that stores would not have decent stock until greater than 4 weeks after the product launches. It is also strange to me that Easton seems to have a few coming in every day (as I've been calling just out of curiosity -- one associate claimed they sell out within the hour), but 30 minutes away at Polaris, they have to receive any. Best of luck to you!

Scored a base model RMBP (which I'm posting from right now) at the Best Buy in Henderson NV. I had the girl check the SKU# to see if they had any and the screen said they had 5 available. She came back with one for me. I tried to get them to price match the receipts posted in the other thread where they were getting the $200 student discount plus either the $150 gift card or extra $150 off but couldn't get it done. It actually took me quite a bit of haggling with them just to get the full $200 student discount. I was shown how to get the student deal on BB's website, but they are only offering $100 off. So I pulled up Apple's website with the student discount price, and then got them to price match that. I'm fine with that, so long as I don't have to deal with the less than helpful Apple store employees, nor do I have to wait a month or more to get the one I ordered from online from Apple (base model but upgraded to 16GB ram). I figure I'll try this one out and make sure I don't need the extra RAM, I don't see why I ever would. Worst case I'll return it to BB and re order from Apple and at that point I'm guessing it would show up sooner anyway. Just downloaded all the updates and time to restart. Be back in a few seconds
Funny is how I want a new RMBP but don't need it as my 13" MBA is fine. Went by the Apple store (nope and we don't know) and then Best Buy (Fairfax, VA). Interesting is the BB girl said they don't have any, expecting 14 on reserve (don't know when those are coming in) and 88 in the local warehouse. Said I could order one and it was scheduled for "release" on Wednesday. Having struggled with BB in the past in such ordering situations, I passed.
She did however tell me that Potomac Mills, VA had 3 in stock of the base model. Debated on whether making the trek and hoping no one else bought them. I decided to hold off which is probably better for me financially anyways.

I was also told the same and got an email on Thursday that my reserved item [ RMBP ] was ready for pick up. So, she kinda knew about the stock coming in!
Second, if there was/is stock available at another store, you could've bought it at the Fairfax location and picked it up at Potomac Mills.

Hmmm so I guess it is reliable then. Someone asked if they could ship it from the Potomac Mills store to Fairfax and they said no. Didn't think of the trick.
Great now I want to go back. Hahaha!!
All of the MacMall stores in southern california have the base model RMBP in stock. I picked mine up about a week and a half ago from the Santa Monica store, but they also have a store in Torrance as well as one in Huntington Beach.
I called all the apple stores in town they are all sold out. I'm amazed these $2200+ computers are selling out. What recession?

Scored a base model retina at the Wilmington,DE Best Buy. They received a shipment yesterday and have a few left.
