Whoops, I guess I didn't specifically state that I'll participate. So, yeah, sign me up as well!

I also applied some additional browser tweaks mentioned here, updated TenFourFox, etc. and performance has gotten even better, although I still prefer using the mobile versions of certain sites, like Twitter. Obviously still not the same responsiveness etc. as a modern multiple GHz multi-core machine, but that comes with the territory and is fine by me :)

Well, turns out for July 1-8 I'll be away from my Macs so I can't participate. I'll be removing my name, but moving everybody up sounds like too much of a hassle. If anybody else wants to join, put your name in the number four spot!

I will not be able to participate either. My life and demands of both my jobs will mean I am on a laptop and my personal and work desktop constantly. It is a shame but my PPC only days are over. I took my name off the list and moved everyone below me up.

Just remembered I have an iPhone 5 on iOS 6.. Would it be considered cheating to use it? :p
I would say yes, but other's might object.

Here'e why they might object.

The 5 can't sync with any PowerPC Mac. You need an Intel Mac (or a PC) running iTunes 10.6.4 at a minimum.

Just putting that fact out there. Since I'm not participating (officially at least) I don't have a vote.

Ok but with all that being said, I have an iPhone SE. I have literally no other device to switch to. I know it won’t sync, but I can use iCloud Drive between devices If push comes to shove. PowerPC Mac’s are one thing. But I don’t think anyone in their right mind is still using a PowerPC compatible phone as a daily driver.

As I said, I have no objection but I also have no say in the matter.

I was just pointing out a fact. I'll leave it to everyone actually involved with the challenge to decide.

Eh, I'll probably be using my iPhone 4 anyways, unless it breaks suddenly. I had used it back when I only owned PPC macs.

Speak for yourself :)

For me everything that is able to communicate with a PowerPC is part of the game. So all iOS devices which can be connected via iFiles/AFP to exchange files between PPC and iOS/Cloud, take pictures and store them directly on the PPC, offer an LTE-Hotspot etc. Even os9 can bumped up to a new level by these means ...

Ah - I always admired that certain Motorola phone - but I was firmly sold on Palm/Nokia those days ... (about "iSync" - is it part of Motorola-software or something more versatile ...?)

If it’s just connectability, that would be nice. I save videos to iCloud Drive and then download them to be edited on ppc. I need to get ifiles though.

You couldn't spend a Dollar better than on iFiles (1st version)!
iFiles would simply pass through the videos or any other file from iCloud to PPC - and within the same (wlan-) network it would be super fast without draining your data-volume...

Yeah I’ll admit iCloud Drive is a little ridiculous sometimes. It does work well on LWK and in a fox box though.

I'm preparing for and during the challenge to install

  • Fedora 25 PPC64 Server netinstall on my G5 but stuck here
    http://linuxhacker.ru/d/?q=node/360

  • AOSC OS on my PB 12" , I've contacted one of the developers but I did notice this post on their site on the 7th of June
https://aosc.io/news/2413-core-422-fin

"Lastly, as we have no PowerPC device available for development at the moment, we have decided to suspend all updates - and that includes security updates - for both PowerPC architectures.

We do apologise for the inconvenience and we would further recommend that you move away from AOSC OS for this summer, in our hope to keep you safe from cyberattacks and existing bugs."

  • and use my other Leopard PB 12" to visit these forums and do my web browsing and all other stuff.
As far as phones go , I only have my iPhone 5C which will sync to iCloud, for Calendar I can use BusyCal on the PB, all other stuff will remain untouched in iCloud until after the challenge .

One thing I haven't really thought much about for this week is using an older iOS/phone device. Part of me wants to use my 1st gen iPod touch for internet and stuff, mainly because I used my 4th gen touch until 2015 when the 6th gen arrived, so I know it can be done already. ;P

I'll probably still use my 6th gen iPod touch throughout the week for texting and more important stuff like Pokémon GO...

As work won't allow me to abandon everything I have made adjustments in other areas to try to compensate. I see a lot of folks really trying to go the extra mile across the board and I really wish I could join in.

I just wrote another quick blog post on this topic as I am really trying to get in the habit of writing every day. Check it out here.

I have a question. It is appreciated to do something like a blog or video blog, right? Do you have any recommendations which (free) blog (wordpress?) a PPC handles best?

Ergghh. I'm having issues wiht my PowerMac and its not recognizing any RAM chips I put in. I'm probably not going to be able to participate unless it boots up normally again.

I'll see if I can!

The time has finally come, almost out of nowhere it feels! Tomorrow is the official start to the Summer Challenge! Time to close up my MBPs and turn off the PC, Mac Pro, and iMac. Next, I'll be plugging a second display into my PowerMac G5 to serve as my main computer this week. Along side the G5 will be my G4 Cube, which will serve as my Spotify/Music hub. iMac G4 will serve as my secondary computer in place of my C2D iMac 24in. In place of my Mid-2012 15in MacBook Pro will be my trusty 15in PowerBook G4 DLSD. I'll also be playing around with my new 366MHz Indigo iBook G3 Clamshell. I also got a SIM card for my iPhone 2G, which will also work in my 2 3Gs and my 2 3GSes, so I may try and use the 3GS running iOS 5 a bit for every day stuff in the house, but use my 6 outside so i dont rack up PayAsYouGo charges on the other SIM :p. Better yet, just use the hotspot feature on my 6 to connect the 3GS to and then keep using it for everything but calls and SMS texts.

I have a feeling this is going to be a fun week. Good luck to all!

Looking forward to seeing how everyone reacts to my reality. :D
