I have the black speck and MAN does it attract fingerprints. I took it off because it just made the MBP look cheap. It was a shiny cheap plastic. A flat or matte plastic would be less prone for fingerprints.

What is the surface of the new incase like (up close)?

Check out the pictures in the first post, it is a flat matte texture with a quality rubbery feel, looks awesome, and doesn't attract finger prints.

Yes, I really am shocked about how it absorbs my greasy fingers...It shows for about 3 seconds and then it just goes away...

bought the case today and its pretty sweet. had it on for about a couple of hrs and now i just realized that my security slot is covered up by the plastic and that the hole cut for it is about 1/2inch more towards the front of the laptop. i guess i forgot that since my mbp is first gen and the newer gens were slightly change on that ports side. does incase make a first gen version? or do i have to end up whipping out the dremel and cutting this thing?

Sweet! I couldn't really tell by the pics exactly, just needed some confirmation. I kind of see it now.

I actually threw out my speck within a week, because it looked so shI$$y after a few min.

Didnt want to make THAT mistake again (throw away $50 bucks).
Thanks!

That's actually just a decal, I love decals, the look like they belong.

Here is a better picture of the texture up close, that is as good as I can get it, the camera doesn't like the matte texture for sure.

all i have to say is that i can now put my mbp on my laptop and run something intensive without getting first degree burns. it does get warm down there but it definitely doesnt burn.

Yea, that is another plus of the Hardshell, now I only get super sweaty(and pending on the sitting position, swampass).

Have you used your Dremel yet? I'm thinking about grinding the back a little bit where the top and bottom case meet to get a little more screen bending angle.

not yet. cant seem to find the dremel at the moment. my hinge angel is a little restricting. im only getting about a few degrees more than 90. im also looking into cutting into that hinge space to get more out of the hinge.

I checked out both the Speck and the Incase. No mean to bash, but the Speck really is a cheap looking piece of plastic that looks like will scratch and crack(think of a CD case).

The Incase is truly worth the $50 dollars, and the quality and texture is impressive.

The Frost isn't dark at all, I can still see the aluminum behind the Hardshell. It really really looks great, much better than I thought, to the point that I actually prefer the look of the Frost Hardshell on than the bare aluminum! It gives it a smooth textured aluminum look.

You guys will not be disappointed!

If any of you want a specific view of the Hardshell, let me know and I will take the pictures.

I bought the Speck case when I got my MBP back in November, and it lasted all but 3 months. The plastic tabs that kept it on broke off and it was no longer useable. This looks much better than that.

I had the black on my Blackbook and loved it. The reviews I have read from the MBP version have stated that it does not open much beyond 90 degrees. OP can you confirm this? How dark is the frost?
This is a deal breaker for me. I already wish that the MBP would open up more - eg, when sitting on a bed or futon with my knees drawn up. I accept this as an inherent drawback of the slim format but I can't deal with any additional restriction. Otherwise it looks like a great product. I will probably get a skin for my 3 month old Penryn 15" 2.4 MBP. Just my personal take FWIW.

does this hardcase not scratch the MBP dueto friction or hardpartical which slip between the hard cover and the case????

hey do you have the glossy screen? in the first pics you put on, it looks like matt
this pic looks nice

i went to the applestore and the mbp's screen will not bend back alot/all the way and thats annoying

It still has the tabs, but the plastic was much more prone to cracking than this material, but just note, it's still prone to that scenario with abuse. With that being said, my Speck had only one tab left and worked fine until this savior came out

Umm...Incase (like Speck) recommends you take the case off in clean. Particles that get in there are bound to scratch your case, but if you clean it, I think you'll be fine, As for the top part for the display, that seems better sealed than the Speck and doesn't seem like much will get in there, The bottom has a gap on the right side and the holes on the bottom, similar to the speck. But overall the Incase grips much firmer to the notebook. One should note, the advantage to the Speck clear case (and disadvantage) was you could see anything in it ten times better then without it, magnifying dirt to be found by you and those that stared at your computer. (Making it easier to clean and more annoying) With the Incase in Black, you aren't going to see much through it, unless you have illuminated particles of course.

Can anyone provide feedback as to how a plastic case might interact with a Griffin Elevator or mStand?

I can't imagine it would change anything, but before I spend $50 on a case, I want to make sure I'm not going to have a MBP slipping off a stand, all the time. Then again, I suppose it'd be a good 'field' test for the case :)

I personally hate those covers, if you have a nice macbook pro why are u covering it up? To protect it? Well i guess i better put a bunch of covers all over my cars while im driving them so they dont get damaged.

Enjoy the computer, if it gets scratched the computer has a war wound and should display it with pride!

Now a case when u put it away, thats another story.

I just enjoy keeping everything I own in excellent condition. I may have an OCD problem anyway, but I buy everything with the resale value at the end in mind. I agree that the scratch would give it 'character,' but there's also something comforting in keeping it in mint condition.

...and I actually do have a cover for my car too :) Well, a clear bra (think of those leather bras, except this is a thin, millimeter-thick, film) laid on the front side of my car to protect against rock chips. Again, resale value in mind, and just comfort in my possessions kept in good appearance.

I do understand your point though.

I ended up returning mine. The screen angle was a deal breaker for me. Plus, it did seem heavier with the case on the mac. It looked nice but not my cup o' tea I guess...

I would completely agree with you, except for the following reasons:

1) Macbook Pros are not disposable, not for that price. I've seen 4 year old G4's go for a nice bit, and just sold my rev 2. macbook for about 75% of the purchase price (but it was dented on the side). Better looking machine = better tasting resale. Just like the poster above. I don't keep electronics for more than 2 years (maybe) if I can resell it and upgrade to a different model. Heck, when I got my iPhone, I didn't take it out of the box until I got a screen protector and two cases (showcase and iClear) , and it looks just as good as the day I got it.

2) Apple care is great, but if there is considerable damage to the machine, they switch to "our discretion" mode and can deny your claim if they want to. If any thing breaks down 2 years down the road and its been in a case its entire life, I can walk into the apple store like its noones business and ask them to fix it without a sign of wear.

3) Cases are cheap to replace. The top and bottom case for a macbook pro is a little under $800, and thats if you install yourself.

4) Many people, including myself, use this as a main 'personal' rig (and have powerful desktops at work :D). If I did drop my machine, I can be certain that SOME (not all) of the impact will be distributed amongst the case and keep it stable enough not to jar any of the components (if its a small drop). And I won't have to scramble for replacements, backups and whatever else.

But hey, to each his own.
