When I picked up my frost case, my local apple store had the black ones in stock as well. I took at peek at it, and it looked good.... but significantly less translucent than the frost. At first glance the frost looks whitish, but is really quite transparent... the black looks solid, and when you hold it up to the light is barely translucent. No pictures, but theres my $0.02 from what I saw...
CPU temp increased by 1-2 degrees (Celcius) at idle. No change when under load.
Well , the monitor doesn't get all that hot, and there are vent holes on the bottom of the case, where the CPU , GPU and Memory are housed.

Opened it up and redid the thermal paste? Can you share any more details on this? Sounds like it made a big difference for you.
on the first gen mbps a decent amount of them came out of the factory with way too much thermal paste on the cpu and gpu which didnt let heat transfer efficiently to the heatsink. i have a first gen mbp and i opened it up and cleaned up the mess that was left and reapplied new thermal paste on the cpu. now the heat is able to transfer efficiently onto the heatsink and out of the mbp. there's a few threads on here about it.

That's funny that you said that! When I first purchased it, and took it out of the box, I thought I had taken home the plum version, because it looked like a very deep purple. Then, when I took it out of the direct light, it was black again. I think that once you actually put it on your laptop, where you wont be looking at it as a light shines through it, it looks perfectly black. I think we all might be confusing transparent black (which makes it slightly lighter) with very dark purple.
im really interested in this case.. only if its pure black though! hopefully its just purple in the light like you said.. but then i saw this picture.. and im hoping it doesnt look like this

Oh my god... the black one is beautiful.... can we get a snapshot from the Keyboard side, It will look great on my MBP with the black keyboard protector...
One more thing I would like to know is if the material is hard as plastic or if its as the incase protector for the iphone....

I can't help you with the keyboard snapshot, since I don't have the black one, but hopefully someone else can.
As for the texture, it's a rubbery plastic, not hard like your typical plastic. It has that soft, grippy feel, if that makes any sense - probably like the iPhone case you're talking about (no experience with that case though).
Wow thats odd. I guess these are pretty good cases so I an see them going out but not through the manufactureres website.
