Anyone successfully modified to open more??

Have any of you "Shaved" or modified the incase to allow the screen to open wider?

If so, please tell us how you did it and any recommendations you have.

Obviously, pictures would say a thousand words...;)

Thanks..

Shave...

I think we are seeing that results either vary or some of us are hesitant to push the screen back beyond a certain point where it seems the case will not allow. I myself was hesitant so I decided to shave.

Can you tell us how you did your "Shave"?

How much more angle did you gain?

This may be my new case... I was thinking about getting a Speck, but this looks far superior!!

Changing it up...

First post here...got my MPB and my Incase Hardshell a few weeks ago and am loving both of them. Did a little modification this afternoon that I think looks pretty awesome. Not my ideal image but it was the only one I had laying around on a big enough sheet of paper. Hopefully switching it to something else in the future. =]

That is one awesome looking mod, but hot damn that is scary.

Not something I'd like to be gazing at at my local coffee shop :), but it is truly awesome. Cool twist on the plain case.

Mickdy....

Can you tell us how you shaved your case and what the results were???

Initially I just used a sharp x-acto knife and shaved on the bottom case right where the the lower edge of the screen started hitting the case. These initial results allowed for the screen to open beyond 90degrees and was sufficient if the laptop was on a flat/level surface.

I am now using a laptop stand and need every bit of screen angle so I decided to shave as much off as needed to get full factory angle tilt (i.e. full screen angle when incase is not installed). I used the sandpaper drum attachment on a dremel this second time around shaving it and I would say there is probably around 1/32" of material left at the thinnest part of where I shaved.

For anyone planning to do this to their case as well, take you time! Take the lower case off the laptop and shave a little at a time and clean off all shaved material before re-installing to check results. Be careful to not overheat the area with the dremel as it will melt and this is not good especially when the material thickness of the case starts getting really thin.

I will try to post a pic of my final results later.

I posted these in the, "Last purchase thread", but it was this thread that made me want one, so i'll post them here aswell...

really want to get one of these but can't seem to find a 17" MBP in the UK??? the apple online store only sells 15"! They have the speck ones but guessing i should give that one a miss in favour of the incase?

This thread is also responsible for my purchasing and I have posted already about my thoughts and experience on day 1.

Update: I still love it.

Question: So are we assuming that incase, a much better apple 3rd party manufacturer, will not cause the same case rubbing scratches as the speck was blamed for? (I hope not; this thing is the sexyness)

I would say that it would be just as prone to the same scratches caused by the speck as they are virtually identical designs, so I would still suggest cleaning it regularly, as I plan on doing. However, it does fit much, much tighter then the speck, therefore, IMO, decreasing the chance for dust to get rubbed back and forth into the chassis of the MBP.
Both cases are great. Near identical. The Speck actually allows for a much great viewing angle. However, the InCase, with the lack of mold markings is just streamline and sexy,
Speck looks too Non-Mac for me. (reminds me of a tacky Alien ware body, or those cheap looking Sony Xplode stereo amps, )

Has anyone bought the Red case that can post pics of it on their MacBook Pro? I would like to see more pics in addition to what is on the website, and unfortunately the Red one is not available at retail locations to look at in person.

I took my Incase Hardshell off. I didn't like the added bulk that much. Also, the case was loose on the lower lefthand corner and the cutouts for the ports on the left were not perfectly centered. I still think it's a great case, just not for me.

I decided to just get a film and maybe a thin sleeve like the Radtech Sleevez.

hats off to you! that is superb. i could imagine keeping my head down behind that, & informing terrified / bemused train passengers that, " i wanna play a game "

lol brilliant!

I think it looks fantastic, but I can't understand how anybody can work comfortable when the screen basically stops at 90 degrees, or just past that. The viewing angles on the MBP is pretty bad and even without the incase the screen doesn't go back very far - how do you guys do it?

umm yeah... i just received mine (red). all i can think of is tilting the whole thing by propping up the front feet? not ideal, but it leaves a cooling space underneath... ummm...

Yeah, but if you tilt the whole thing, you end up in an uncomfortable typing position. that's fine for DVDs and things where you don't use the keyboard, but not for any kind of keyboard/display work. It just amazes me that incase could release a product without consider this extremely important detail...

I just went out and got the Black InCase case and the Marware wrist pad (I just loved the images of that combo) for my brand new MBP.

Here is the opening angle prior to applying the case:

And here is the opening angle after the case:

It seems to open almost as far as it did originally - so I am quite happy.

As far as temps go - I haven't tested Load temps yet, but my idle temps have seemed to stay the same (in fact they went down, but I'm guessing that was just a breeze or something).

I'm very happy so far!

I'm glad my pics helped.

however your links don't work, at least not for me. Even though I have the exact same setup as you aleady know, I'm sure others would like to see them...

It seems some open further than others. I'm wondering if it has to do with the way people put it on - and that the ones that don't open further are not properly attached or something?

if they do go back that far, then the incase really seems great.
