i quitted wow for 22 days now, had a lvl 80 full epic holydin, and im NOT gonna play again, ever! 3 years of my life wasted on that retarded game lol

Just when I think that WoW environments can't get any better I stumble into Grizzly Hills. My God there is a reason this game is addictive.
My gods, yes. Even though I quit in November... I played the trial of WotLK and took a tour of the lower Northrend zones. It's so much better than Outland. Makes me want to play again (but I'm not going to, have a lot of other fun games to play and WoW makes me lazy).

Not intended as a sermon for Joerigoesmac. :D

I can relate to that but I think it is a matter of perspective and balance. As you have described it as wasting your life, then it can be inferred that you over did it. :) And if you can't keep it from becoming your life, then stay away.

But if you can play it for entertainment, not giving it too much time, and not letting it interfere with other important aspects of your life, in other words maintain balance in your life, than that's fine too.

I think the trouble starts when players start assigning inflated importance to in-game achievements like trying to be among the best equipped players or top pvpers or they allow the game to become 95% of their social life (ignoring the girl friend/friends or playing the game every spare moment).

Remember, it's just a GAME. The good feelings that come from the socializing, the comradre, and taking down the boss are real but the in-game achievements really mean nothing in the fabric of your life. It's not like learning a real skill, something that sticks with you. And my opinion is that online friendships should not take the place of face to face friendships. Someday WoW will be gone, taking with it your toons, gear, online friends, and your in-game achevements. In light of that certainty, there really should be something else to live for. ;)

ahhh i heart wow.. although i will agree that it definately consumes people a bit too much.. but its a great thing if theres down time and your bored because theres so much to do.

I played WoW since just before TBC came out, then I stopped for about 6 months, during mid 2007. Then, the WotLK dragged me back, painfully I stayed for another 6 months or so. In total I have had something like 3 70s and a level 80 character.

Its killing me, I want to play again. But, the cost, time and well you know if you have played before what I mean.

I've quit. Twice. It's probably been almost a year now.
If you want to REALLY quit, when you have the motivation just straight-up DELETE ALL YOUR CHARACTERS.

Truth be told, I almost went back to play a DK, but the fact that I would have to grind out 50 levels first stopped me.

Mission accomplished.

Blizzard Support can restore them even if you delete them all. Just call them up.

Death Knights start at Level 55 and the cap is 80 so I'm not sure how you come up with 50 levels to grind?

I've given up and gotten away pretty much without any withdrawal symptoms! I did take the extra precaution of giving away everything I held in value in game, and giving my account to a good friend to change the email/password on that account so I couldn't, even if tempted, to go back.

Being in the 'can't spend a moment away from my WoW' category, it sucked a lot of my life down into the mess (I hate Blizzard for introducing the Achievement mechanic :D). Dedicating an entire 2 weeks just to get Loremaster pushed me over the edge.

Anywho...2 weeks sober!

I never got the appeal of the achievements as it felt like busywork to me. My brother spent days exploring the whole game on a DK just to get the "the Explorer" title.

I have been off WoW for awhile now and don't really feel much pull to go back. I think the biggest draw is those you played with and since most of my friends/family that played also stopped, I really have no reason to go back. I switched back to FPS games which is really what I was trying to do with WoW in PVP anyway.

I've been 'clean' since December 12th...

I've played since beta, have multiple 70's and 80's, as well as 30-60's (heh, I maxed out my 50 character limit a few times)... I gave up alot of my other hobbies while playing, but never got as bad as the folks over on wowdetox... holy cow.

Anyway, I tried quitting a few times over the course of my membership, but this last one was different. I finally got to the point where I was bored with it, no matter what character I logged in as, I ran around for 5 minutes and just went "meh." Logout.

But out of all the games I've ever played, the cost per month/day/hour/minute, however you want to put it is the best. For the initial cost plus the 12.99 a month (I paid for 6 month clips), I had ALOT of fun.

If you REALLY want to get rid of it if you're having trouble, I recommend 1 of two things: if you know someone who plays it, give them your account and say "HAVE FUN!" That's what I ended up doing. I know I could have sold it, but I just wanted to get rid of it fast without any hassles.

The other (more fun??) thing to do is download one of those WOWGlider programs and hack around a bit. Get your account perma-banned. There ya go! can't undelete, can't reinstate... account GONE! Problem solved!

I don't know if any of you former or current addicts have fond Night Elf memories, but I'm currently running a L26 Druid through Ashenvale. Starting in Teldrassil, the big tree, moving to Darkshore, then Ashenvale, this is the most perfect implementation of an enchanted forest I've ever seen in a game. The sights, sounds, and experiences are just too wonderful! It makes me wish that each zone was about 10x larger. :D

I hated the Nelf zones. When I started my main (NE warrior), my ex was a human rogue and we level separately till 18 or so then joined up. When I did my druid, I sent him to the human zones (this was pre-Dranei) since the questing was so much better.

Now, you're better off in the Dranei zones as they are created for fast leveling.

I have 319 /played days on my main, 2 70s and a new 80 Death Knight that is making the game fun again. I leveled in Northrend on my warrior in Howling Flord and worked my way to Icecrown.

On the DK, I started in Borean Tundra and worked my way toward icecrown but in 13 levels of questing, I probably had less than 20 quests I repeated on both toons.

Hilarious although not realistic. I don't see a computer game reducing the male sex drive. :D

When I started playing WoW back in Feb. 2007, I didn't masturbate for 3 weeks.
Taking a break to get ready for the coming golf season. :D

PS. for bragging rights

80 NE Feral Druid
80 Gnome Destro Warlock
72 Gnome Fury Warrior
67 Dwarf Blood Death Knight
20 NE BM Huntard

I admit that I have a friend who feels the same way. With one of his toons he took the boat to Wetlands and made "the dreaded low level run" to Ironforge. (for those not familiar, which you no longer have to do now that Storm Wind Harbor is open.) From my perspective, the journey is just as important if not more important than the end game so fast leveling is not my top priority. And not to imply that the Northshire Abbey- Elwynn Forest- Westfall zones are not compelling environments, they are! They are just not magical North Woods elf populated forests. ;)

I also realize that since most of WoW's population has moved on to Outlands/Northrend, the Night Elf starter area is probably one of the least populated starter areas on the Alliance side.

I think you need to pay a visit to the Draenei starter areas, or just dropping by the capital (see? i can't even the name of the city).

I'm most familiar with the Human areas, so I'd catch a port to SW (or Dal now) to level up quickly.

Besides addiction, WoW can also suppress your sex drive? Female night elves and draenei are pretty hot, (even with the hoofs.) ;)

Female Belf's...now that's some easy gratification right there...and PG too!

But I was talking about Teldrassil not Exodar. I realize as a new race there are a lot of Draeneis coming from somewhere. :)

If they deleted all their toons, they'd have to level one up to 55 to unlock a DK wouldn't they? :p

I leveled a Druid to 70 just before I stopped. Leveling was fun, but I don't like Kalimdor in general. Ashenvale was buggggggy as hell on my realm - mobs clumped together or evade bugging, and once (by once I mean for about a week until the Tuesday maintenance) there was a really high level spider sitting by the flight master such that I couldn't approach without getting killed. Plus all those zones take soooo loooong to travel through even by taxi. I did enjoy the zone design at lot in Kalimdor but Eastern Kingdoms are much more pleasant to level in.

Mounts at 30 and the new 30-40 zone in Theramore make low-leveling toons much easier. Outlands at 58 (cake if you're a healer-type as 4 out of 5 toons are DKs. But even that works. Did a 5-man DK clear of Ramparts around 61. No heals, just everyone pulling as they could.

I basically did Hellfire and Zangermarsh in full on the DK *like 58-64* then a zone a level skipping BEM and SMV all together and heading to Northrend at 68.

Northrend was so much better designed for quests then Outlands. Lots of fun ones like having to learn the murloc language to save a tribe (and trade with them) and you really feel like it's building to something as Arthas is so prevalent everywhere.

If anything, I'd recommend playing it for a few things: The DK starting zones and the conclusion of that (55-58 basically) where you join the Horde/Alliance. Epic stuff.

The Wrathgate chain. Steeped in WoW lore and very well done. Battle for the Undercity is just too damn good.
