Anyone have any experience selling an account? I'm seriously considering it.

I would think I could fetch a premium price for it. My main is 10/14 Uludar 25 right now, some of the best game in gear (full tier sets, dual BoHs, 35 exalted titles, like 6k achievement points, Baron's mount Blue Drake, etc.

Also have a 80 DK in Naxx 25 gear and a 70 druid and 70 warlock both in Hyjal/Black Temple-level gear.

Have no idea how to do this tho. Craigslist?

I would not be surprised if there was an online sight that helps facilitate selling your account. I have no idea how much they are worth.

I imagine as a buyer you have to trust the seller. You are going to send them money and then cross your fingers, 1) they account they are selling is really theirs to sell and 2) they actually sign the account over to you. As a buyer, I think the solution would be some kind of "escrow" account with a 3rd party involved in the process.

Huntn,

Next month after I put WoW on hold till fall, I'll possibly have a little free time a couple nights a week where I might want to game on my computer. I know people's gaming taste vary but what single player games do you enjoy and highly recommend. I was using a G4 until recently (I now have an Intel Mac with bootcamp on it) and I don't have many newer games besides WoW and the WoW expansions (if you call that new :) ).

Do you like shooting games? Lots of great options there. I personally am a fan of TF2, CS:S and Day of Defeat:src. COD4 is also very good.

Wow, I could not find the original article but at macmmo.com, lower left of page, I saw this blurb:

"In our continued efforts to combat cheating in World of Warcraft, more than 76,000 accounts were closed and 11 million gold was removed from the game economies in Europe, Korea, and the US in the month of September."

During my two year break from WoW I was focused on these games: The Witcher (RPG), Crysis (FPS), Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (RPG), Half Life 2 and Episodes.

The Witcher was surprisingly good. One thing I did not like about The Witcher was invisible walls- in game barriers that hurt immersion IMO. There are some "adult" mods for the game, but generally I don't think they are worth the effort. For example, one makes some of the female characters nude all of the time, silly IMO. Another restores the written text you see to the original "unedited" European English version, but the characters still say the "edited" U.S. dialog. Makes it hard to follow.

Oblivion is the best solo RPG game I've ever played, playing it for 18 months. See that mountain way over there? You can run to and climb it without a single screen load, although there were screen loads when you entered dungeons and towns. The wide open countryside is great for immersion and the first RPG environment where I felt like exploring the countryside just for fun. Combat is lively. Unlike many RPGs you can time your hits, dodge, and block. However as compared to shooters, eye hand coordination is not that demanding.

Crysis, is a good, sneak-through-the-weeds shooter, if you like shooters and your hardware can handle it. This game is primarily why I purchased Vista, but in hindsight, XP would have been a better choice. I don't think DX10 is all that much better than DX9. My MBP played Crysis around 14-24 fps, good enough.

And least I forget, Half Life 2 and episodes that have followed. Some of the best solo adventure/shooter gaming I've ever experienced. HL2 has no equal. :)

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I never heard of Oblivion but it looks very good.

For fps, I have UT, UT2003, UT2004, and Halo. My favorite (single player) by far is still the original UT "1999" with the OSX patch (playing CTF matches). I was looking at Crysis and was wondering how it compared to the others as far as game play. Would you recommend HL2 out of all the fps games ?

I was also considering Heroes V or Fallout 3. What is your opinion of these titles ?

After Marathon ;), UT has to be the best multiplayer game I've ever played. I spent many years going to Lan parties to duke it out. I never did any Crysis multiplayer, but my impression is that it is not nearly as robust as UT is with game varients, plus Crysis is a resource hog. Maybe someone who has played Crysis MP will comment.

As stated in my previous post HL2 is highly reccommended! :) I think the original HL and HL2 represent the greatest solo adventure shooter game ever created. The graphics are not as refined as Crysis, but it's gameplay is more enjoyable IMO. But Crysis is a different sort of shooter with it's sneak factor. You wear a suit with a stealth mode that makes you invisible for short periods of time before it has to recharge. I love the jungle island environment (like Far Cry) where you can spend a lot of time sneaking through the weeds to avoid detection.

I never played Heroes V, maybe I should look at that? I was disappointed in Fallout 3 mostly because I did not care for the post-apocalyptic environment. It's by the same company that did Oblivion (Bethesda Software) so the mechanics are similiar, but Oblivion is a much more pleasant environment to explore. I think a post-apocalyptic environment could be fun, but F3 seemed very drab and dreary to me.

Some things about Oblivion:
There is a main quest chain, but if you ignore it there is no adverse result. It just sits there until you do it. There is even a mod (for the PC version) that gets rid of the main quest! Once you start there will be this pressure to save the realm. My recommendation is to do it, but you can do it at your pace. In other words, you don't have to ignore every other quest to get the main quest done. BTW the PC version has tons of mods. I don't know about the Xbox version.
There are a huge number of dungeons, but they all have a similar feel and look. They are either caves, forts, or Ayleid Ruins. And the controversy with Oblivion was that combat scales with the player skill level. The advantage of this is that you can explore any dungeon at any skill level and face a challenge. The bad thing is that unlike a game like WoW, you can't really get in over your head unless, you level the wrong way. For more info please see the MacRumors Oblivion Tips and Cheats Guide which I put together. See No.13 "Leveling the Right Way". Some players say scaling combat makes it feel repetitive. But lets be honest, what game does not have repetitive Player-Versus-Environment combat? :)

Oh, did you ever play Bioshock? I forgot to mention that- outstanding RPG! Dark and threatening, great enviroment! I started playing it on the Xbox but switched to the PC because there are some combat issues that I could address with my Norstomo N52 (controller) on my PC, that I could not handle with the Xbox controller. Issues like being able to rapidly switch active abilities so when a Big Daddy hurled something at me, I could switch my psi ability, catch it (using the force) ;) and then hurl it back at him. With the Xbox, I'd have to pause the action, switch my active ability, then restart the action and hope to catch the item tossed at me. BTW, catching stuff was not a requirement, but since I had the ability I wanted to use it. A Bid Daddy barreling down on you really gets your attention. If they catch you, they pound you to smithereens in a couple of seconds.

Aha! I didn't realize Huntn was so versed in the FPS/RPG genres =)

I personally really like the HL2 engine and the main game. I think the look of it is pleasing while still playable by many systems. I still have to play through the new episodes as I only went through the original when it first came out but, I liked the problem solving nature of it. I also think Portal is a solid game for similar reasons...The cake is DEFINITELY a lie.

Unfortunately, you just missed a fabulous deal on Orange Box. It comes with HL2, Episode 1, 2 and Lost coast, Portal and Team Fortress 2 for the regular price of $30 but, last weekend it was $10 via Steam.

If you like the dark story genre, you should try Bioshock. My bro loves this game but, it's a little too dark for me personally. Bioshock 2 is coming out this year and looks to be really cool.

A little versed... :D

How does HL2 compare to Deus Ex ?

Much different games. As I recall Deus Ex was a RPG shooter. This comment may brand me but I did not care for Deus Ex all that much. It was dark and I was not crazy about the missions, but if you like sneaking, there were opportunities for that. Half Life 2 is much more fun but it's a straight shooter. Yes as Motor said, Bioshock is dark, so dark, some other game came up and I ended up not finishing it. :)

If you own 64bit Vista, does that entitle you to have the 32 bit version free of charge? I seem to remember that from somewhere but it was the reverse. in consideration of these excellent titles, if you've not played them, I'd consider installing 32 bit Vista myself or go to XP. Oblivion runs fine on 32bit Vista and it originally came out for XP.

The primary use of my boot camp drive is not for gaming so I pretty much have to leave it 64 bit Vista :(.

I finally decided on Panzer General and Allied General to replace WoW during my limited game time this summer (I have a powerbook G4 with virtual PC running Win 98 SE). It's pretty bad when I have more interest in 13 / 14 year old games then what's out now :).

Note - Panzer General runs ok after some tweaks and Allied General runs extremely well (better then when I played the Mac version many years ago).

Personally I think this is an incredibly stupid idea. When you consider time /played (you gotta have over 100 days at least) and money invested, you arent going to get near enough money compared to investment. Keep your char, you might be back.

I was going to play the original Steel Beasts but it won't run on Vista and the new version is unbelievably expensive, $125 for a game. Is Allied General a realistic tank game or is it arcady?

Has anyone tried Windows 7 RC yet? It is supposed to provide XP backwards compatibility that may allow some games to work in Win7.

Allied General is a turned based campaign war game. You can either run the British in Africa or Europe, the Americans in Europe, or the Russians in Russia. I'm amazed that Russia beat Germany after playing the Russians. Not many screenshots online (13 year old game) but here is one I found.

Anyone here tanking with a Death Knight?

I have a level 60 DK that I was going to level as a DPS toon, but I'm having so much fun with my Pally tank, I'm thinking about tanking my DK as Frost Spec. I've been reading online. It seems like the Frost Spec does a better job of mitigating damage than an Unholy DK, but has a harder time maintaining aggro on a group. Paladin tanking *seems* relatively simple. DK tanking seems more challenging.

Any thoughts from anyone who is an experienced DK tank?
Thanks! :)

Most of the on-line comments about DKs concern level 80 DKs. From my experience, all the DK trees up till level 80 are good for tanking. You should easily hold aggro with death and decay and your other abilities as long as the DPS gives you time to get aggro. Your equipment will constantly be changing until you hit 80 so none of the specs will be even remotely defense capped so play the spec you enjoy.

I myself like the full blood spec with any extra points thrown into unholy until you hit 80. It's a good all around spec with emphasis on solo dps questing. It's amazing when you take on a group of higher level mobs and are still at full health after the battle.

At 80, most people go frost for the dps and tanking. Until then, blood will give you good dps and the best solo survivability.

Thanks for the feedback! Do you have any cross class tanking experience? If so how would you compare DK tanking to Pally/Warrior tanking? There was a time when only Warriors could tank. I'm very happy that Blizzard opened it up to other classes. Yes, even Druids can tank! :)

All 4 classes are about equal overall though some are more niche players.

Pally tanks are the best for trash mobs with the aoe though lack of Last Stand hurts them on bosses.

DKs are best for caster mobs/bosses with anti-magic shell.

Druids are tops for pure damage-absorbing abilities.

Warriors are not the clear-cut best these days but have more threat and dps capabilities than they used to and they still have the most "oh ****" buttons. They're also the more involved class to tank with (I have a 80 warrior, 80 DK and 70 druid).

haha I typically resub around summer time and winter as they are the times I have more free time to play...one thing to keep in mind; don't burn yourself out and have fun. Afterall you quit once and have nothing to lose, so just enjoy the game as you see fit.

I have a L80 Druid Tank friend who swears by Druid tanking. I do have a L29 Druid I am leveling for future tank duties. :)

Which DK spec as anti-magic shell? (I'll investigate.) With that recent patch that gave back the talents, I specc'd as a Frost DK. I have not yet tanked it yet, been too scared. But I have been reading. At one point the Frost tank seemed to be the best Tank spec but I'm not 100% sure. With rune consumption I'm really trying to convince myself I have a good rotation in mind. Bottom line I must get into a dungeon and give it a whirl. Any active Frost DK tanks listening and care to comment? :D
