I think the main "problem" with the game is if you're playing a sane amount, you don't feel like it's worth $15/month. That's because it isn't. If there were some $5-8 limited hours plan, I would love it.

I also didn't appreciate jumping on a server with a friend and then learning what a PvP server was all about. Nothing like wasting about 2 hours a month running back from the graveyard because some high-level douche is (figuratively) running around Goldshire.

With like over 100 million dollars per month (not including paid transfers and haircuts) you'd think they can give you a break.

If you spend 2 hours / month running back from the graveyard due to being ganked, you are pretty bad at wow or you play too much :) (2 minutes to run back means 60 times ganked / month.)

I play on a pvp server where we are outnumbered 3:1 and I might get ganked 4-6 times during a month.

Rumors of War

For those of you that really are considering playing the game again, there are many of us on MacRumors that have been playing with one another.

I created a guild about a month ago for those of us on the macrumors forum that play the game. That way, if you'd like, you can play along with former members of the forum in the game.

The guild is called Rumors of War (found it a fitting name since all members are from MacRumors) and we currently have 20+ members. We'd love to add more of you and have you join in on the fun with us. We're taking any experience level, whether you're a new player or long time one.

Our official thread is here

Consider joining us! :D

The Wrathgate chain. Steeped in WoW lore and very well done. Battle for the Undercity is just too damn good.

What zone is that in Northrend? I've got a L73 Pally questing in Dragonblight. I really enjoyed the quests in Wintergarde Keep. There is an epic feel to some of them.

But you learned a valuable lession about the nature of PVP, hopefully in a short period of time. Depending on a player's motivation PVP is great fun or it sucks! :)

I've said that several times over the years. I'd like to see $7-10 per month depending on subscription length. It's not like they can't afford it.

Dragonblight. You need to do all of the quests from Fordragon Hold (up at the north west corner of DB). Blizzard really stepped up a notch for NR quests.

Epic: when you first get your winter flying and start exploring Icecrown. The walkways, the citaldel itself, the walls/gates, makes you feel tiny.

I think the Chinese subscription type is based on hours played. Although I'm not sure how it works out for the heavy players, maybe there is an unlimited plan?

I had an interesting experience. Keep in mind I'm cycling through about 5 toons so I move up slower than dedicated play with one toon. Anyway, my RET Pally has been in Northrend for several months now. When I was in Hellfire, I would actually get invited to parties, but as a healer, which I could handle. But since arriving in the current area of the game, without exception every time I had my name in the pool for a dungeon, I'd get asked my spec, I'd reply "ret" and then silence.

After getting really annoyed by that, I said the hell with it, and I asked my guild should I respec "prot" or "holy". Everyone said go "holy". I mulled that over for a while, but I have an up and coming holy priest and back in the day of classic WoW, my pally had been relegated to dedicated healer. I don't need two primary healer toons, so, I took the leap and respecced as "prot" (tank). Within minutes of putting my hat in the ring, I was asked what spec, I said "tank" and I was in, although I'm a tank-in-learning, I've not tackled any really difficult dungeons, and the groups I've been with have been patient. Bottom line, I'm having a better experience than when I was "retting" it. :)

Must be an alliance thing. Most horde groups on my server would gladly grab a good ret pally.

Note - On the looking for group, you can add a comment which should list what spec you are although it doesn't always work when groups don't bother reading it :)

Maybe my luck and timing was bad? But as soon as I respeccd I went from being a wall flower to the bell of the ball (or seamingly so). :D

I'm bloody bored sitting here, watching MR Spy, flipping through all my iTunes music....

I WANT MY WOW BACK...I deleted it, and I was going to an Internet Cafe to just whet my appetite and get over it again but...my subscription ended 2 days ago.

I don't want my toon to rotting, because my raiding guild needed a proper elemental shammy, if only there was a proper way of xferring a toon to another player.

You WoW toons will be held in stasis unless you take (or took) the drastic step of deleting them. The only way of xferring a toon I know of is giving/selling your account to someone.

Heh heh...

Now that warmer weather is here I'm going to put my WoW account on hold till this fall. WoW is fun but there are much better things to do when you are not stuck inside :).

So are you going to cancel your subscription for the summer? (An attempt to determine how serious you are) ;)

I am also doing the same. Too many things to do now that the weather is turning nice. Also with Patch 3.1 out I moded my characters and now read they are coming out with another patch next week or so and reset your trees again. Besides, it is getting kind of lame or I am bored also.

Bill.....:apple:

Yep, you never lose anything so I'm surprised more people don't take a break from the game.

This months subscription will run out in May so I'm playing till then. I'm pretty sure I'll start back up at the end of September / beginning of October.

God that quest was SOOOO Incredible! It defiitely pulls you into the lore of the game! It is Horde only aye? Do Alliance have any similiar?

Yeah and that citadel is immense... They hit a home run on WoTLK!

FOR THE HORDE!

Just did that quest as Alliance, very fun quest.

The And End and a Beginning quest chain ending with On Ruby Wings leads to Reborn from the Ashes which ends with The Battle for the Undercity, an instanced event similiar to the end of the DK starter area where other players if they are doing the quest will appear in the same space. Great lore, kind of sad, no real challenge to staying alive, but still fun.

Seperate question- Any Night Elve's out there have the spell Elune's Grace gotten from this quest? My NE does not have it and I wonder if somehow I over looked it or it has been eliminated from the game?

Huntn,

Next month after I put WoW on hold till fall, I'll possibly have a little free time a couple nights a week where I might want to game on my computer. I know people's gaming taste vary but what single player games do you enjoy and highly recommend. I was using a G4 until recently (I now have an Intel Mac with bootcamp on it) and I don't have many newer games besides WoW and the WoW expansions (if you call that new :) ).

During my two year break from WoW I was focused on these games: The Witcher (RPG), Crysis (FPS), Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (RPG), Half Life 2 and Episodes.

The Witcher was surprisingly good. One thing I did not like about The Witcher was invisible walls- in game barriers that hurt immersion IMO. There are some "adult" mods for the game, but generally I don't think they are worth the effort. For example, one makes some of the female characters nude all of the time, silly IMO. Another restores the written text you see to the original "unedited" European English version, but the characters still say the "edited" U.S. dialog. Makes it hard to follow.

Oblivion is the best solo RPG game I've ever played, playing it for 18 months. See that mountain way over there? You can run to and climb it without a single screen load, although there were screen loads when you entered dungeons and towns. The wide open countryside is great for immersion and the first RPG environment where I felt like exploring the countryside just for fun. Combat is lively. Unlike many RPGs you can time your hits, dodge, and block. However as compared to shooters, eye hand coordination is not that demanding.

Crysis, is a good, sneak-through-the-weeds shooter, if you like shooters and your hardware can handle it. This game is primarily why I purchased Vista, but in hindsight, XP would have been a better choice. I don't think DX10 is all that much better than DX9. My MBP played Crysis around 14-24 fps, good enough.

And least I forget, Half Life 2 and episodes that have followed. Some of the best solo adventure/shooter gaming I've ever experienced. HL2 has no equal. :)
