Flying Mounts- http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/flying.html

I've been doing some research. I understand to get a flying mount you must go to Shadow Moon Valley. This link: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/flying.html. It looks like 800g there + 100g for mount.

I also see in Northrend there is a quest to get Cold Weather flying, where you need to be L77 and it costs 1000 gold.

Question: Can you bypass the TBC flyng mount (save 100g) and still get the Cold Weather flying mount? However it looks like you must do the TBC quest in Shattrath to raise your riding skill to 225. If you can get the Cold weather mount, I assume this can't be flown in TBC areas or can it?

Does about 1900 gold about cover it?

I read this link to: http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/flying_mounts_(WoW)

Thanks! :)

Cold weather flying only allows you to fly in Northrend. You still must buy the training to fly as well buy a mount. The ones in SMV are the cheapest (the DK bone chicken is a money sink).

The good thing is gold is plentiful leveling to 77 so you should be able to buy all the assorted flying skills by then.

Be sure to do so. You may think you'll save money by keeping a ground mount but it's so much easier getting around on a flying mount. And many quests in Icecrown and Storm Peaks require flying.

You use the same mount, coldflying is only letting you fly your old mount in Northrend :D

There are some really nice Northrend mounts that you can get from instances and Achievement for free too!

EDIT: oh yeah, that one is really easy to get.

Don't count on getting those unless you join a decent raiding guild, or you happen to have the best luck in PuGs. I was in a casual guild because I knew the guys really well, plus I liked helping out the lowbies. But staying there meant I could only PuG, and I got nowhere end game wise (try a badge a day). But as soon as I signed to a raid guild (who really needed me), within a couple of weeks, I picked up about 7 pieces of 213 gear, about 100 badges and stacks of dungeon achievements.

Oh yeah, and I quit the week after that. Lol. Not from the commitment to the guild, but from the realisation that the game is a massive time sink, that I couldn't control. Occasionally, I do insanely reconsider playing again. Holding it back so far.

Get the flying asap. There's no point in waiting.

Thanks Rand and Clutz!
Basic flying with a slow mount was $900 gold total. I've not been to Northrend with it yet, but it looks like it's a 1000g to learn cold wx flying. Even with the slow mount I'm all ready impressed how convenient it is to mine with it. I had written off Terrokar forest for mining due to the terrain, but with flying it's about 500% more productive. :) Money is tight even though I'm currently making Fel Iron armor for sale which is going for, dependig on the item 3-10g each. I wonder if I could make as much just selling the metal bars? Hmmm.

Actually, to get cold weather flying, I think you need to get the next level of flying which is $5k gold. This enables you to use epic flying mounts. I really questioned spending that cash on it but once I had it I was convinced of it's value. The idea of traveling at griffon speed anywhere you want to go is very useful...especially if you have a gathering profession. My druid's epic flying form was the ultimate gatherer with instant cast. Unfortunately, he has enchting and eng :(

Not playing right now either btw. I may pick it up again this summer but, we shall see.

Nope, you don't need the 5k gold flying skill to get Cold weather flying

For what it's worth...

I bought the Diablo Battlechest the other day, and it came with a WoW demo disc, so I'm installing it right now, just to do the trial.

I'm sure 1 million people will call me a noob and make fun of me, but I must try it. It's compelling....

You're not alone! We installed a two week trial disk because one the kids wanted to play and he convinced me to create a character also. We now have a regular account and I am a lvl 21 human warrior. The kids and their friends had to give me some badly needed advice because I was soloing for quite a while before I did any: training, professions, selling at auction, group quests, assigning talent points...etc. Now I have a decent numbers and 100+ gold in the bank! Woo hoo! It was about a month ago we found the Battlechest pack at Best Buy for twenty nine dollars. Not bad but I decided not to spend the extra money for Lich King.

It IS addicting. I found it difficult to limit my playing time so I determine a set amount of time or a single quest to complete then sign out.

Have fun!
:)

Well, welcome to the brotherhood of the damned. Once you are tainted, you are never the same. There is no going back :)

It's been so long since I've played I have not kept track of the progress of things. I may actually start again this summer as my kids are out of school. I'll have to learn to cook though as I am sure my wife will pack her bags :(

I try to play after my fiance leaves to work so it does not detract from "our" time.

Let me guess...you're level 21 so...your kids are level 71! ;)

One tip. You better make sure you set some rules. There might be parental controls.

This game can make your kids stay up in wee hours of the night before you realize it.

Nah. There are a lot of noobs. Not all of the players have been there since 2004...and I imagine most of the 2004 players are long gone. The huge subscription-base they get depend a lot on influx of new players too, albeit some ppl play for a long time and return for expansion, etc. It's just that this is THE MMO you have to try if you want to play an MMO for the first time so people will join to see what it's all about...or experience a part of history, or whatever.

There are tons and tons of sites dedicated to WoW and they are really resourceful. You can use those to help. And there's even a social networking site for WoW made by the former pirate called "Napster" that sold to some big company for millions of dollars I believe. I forgot the name of it.

Yeah, I think it's jut a measly 1k gold... ;)

Great comment! :D

Verified- To fly in TBC is 900g (800g training, 100g mount) and to fly in NorthRend is 1000g to train using the same basic mount you purchased in TBC. To purchase an epic mount (which flys faster) is 5000g to train, 200g to purchase mount. Based on my experience in-game, for gathering resources and getting places expeditiously, a flying mount is worth the expense. The other purchase which is worth it is "dual speccing"- 1000g.

For any newbs reading, getting this kind of money does not just fall into your hands through normal leveling. It requires some action on your part, crafting or gathering and selling items at the auction house. At least that has been my experience.

Gathering and crafting will get you some money but the best way to earn money is by doing dailies (repeatable daily quest)

http://www.wowwiki.com/Daily_Quests

if you are in tBC, your best bet is to take the portal in **** to the Isle of Quel'Danas and do the Shattered Sun Offensive dailies (there are also some shattered sun dailies in ****). Once you have all the dailies figured out, you can do them very quickly.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Daily_Quests#Shattered_Sun_Offensive

In WotLK, you can quickly and easily make 100G / day by doing the Sons of Holdir dailies and some other quick dailies.

Note - Making money is only one half of the equation to getting a mount / flyer. You also have to be careful to spend the minimum amount of money (this means no splurging in the AH).

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into this. I had about 3400 gold before I purchased my flying mount. I wonder how time they take to effectively raise money on a daily basis?

Depends on how many you do. If you're at the Champion level for the Argent Tournament, you can grab the Champion quest to kill 15 Scourge, the Valiant quest to kill 10 Scourge, bop on over to the Shadow Vault and pick up the quest to staple 15 vrykul, and you're getting double or triple cash for each kill. Plus you get to do the nigh-on-trivial "Vile Likes Fire" quest that takes all of 30 seconds and is right in the same area. Over 50 gold for about 15 minutes, or over 60 of you take the money bag instead of rep reward for the Champion quest.

Zip on south a bit and do the Champion and Valiant quests in the Court of Bones and you're getting double-paid again. Or head a bit west and do the quick Death's Stand dailies. Do both, it's another 50-60 gold. It's a bit more time, but if you catch the Court of Bones when it's busy and you can get quick kills on the Scourge Champions, it's still quite fast.

If you want more money, there are the Sholazar Frenzyheart or Oracle dailes, the PvP quests in Grizzly Hills, the ones on the Skybreaker in Icecrown, plus stuff I'm undoubtedly forgetting.

The money does come in pretty fast once you start doing dailies. I started WotLK with about 14k (thank you, Isle of Quel'Danas!), and I'm almost back to that after laying out for four Cold Weather Flying, 2 dual specs, and about 24k worth of mounts. Not to mention expenses. :)

Buy the mount from the mount vendor in Dalaran now and now Shadowmoon Valley. Your Kirin Tor rep counts for a discount so you can save quite a bit on a mount from there.

All this talk about WoW is making me want to fire it up again!

The WotLK expansion is the best WoW yet if you have a high enough character to play there.

The death knight starting area quest alone are worth the price of the expansion (you need at least a level 55 character and an empty slot for WotLK to allow you to start a death knight. The death knight will be a new character and will start at level 55).
