Thanks! I can verify that you also get rep (wearing a tabard) when you run a non-heroic. Well, let me clarify, we ran Utgard Pinnacle and I got rep with Wyrmrest which is the tabard I'm currently wearing.

Only level 80 heroics/non heroics get you rep. Lower ones don't, just to clarify.

I've read somewhere that the new patch will greatly reduce the cost of mounts. I'm on my first char, lvl 35, and have only 38 gold, wonder if I should collected money to buy a mount or wait for the patch. Suggestions ? Any idea when the patch will be out ?

THat's completely up to you. Considering the fact that they tend to release info and PTRs about new patches months and months before they release the patch, it may just be worth it to get the mount now. But if you dont mind waiting, then by all means just save up and wait.

I decided to go ahead and get the current price for training/mounts now at the lvl 30 but will definitely wait to purchase at the GREATLY REDUCED prices for the epic grounds, flying etc. To be honest it is about 40G if I remember right just for training and a mount so you'll be near broke after getting a mount. If you don't mind getting to places a little slower I would wait, but I would assume not until at least a month maybe two months before 3.2 is released to all realms.

I'm lvl 40 now so in patch 3.2 I would be able to get an epic ground mount for a cheap cost as well but I feel it's not necessary since I do not have tons of G to spend.

If you're a hunter, druid or shaman, I would wait. Otherwise, I would probably get it now.

I was in UP as a L80, others in my 5 player group were 70 something and I was getting Wrymrest Rep. Does that meet the definition? It might help clarify if I see if that dungeon is associated with the Wyrmrest Accord. (Just like you get Honor Hold Rep when running The Citadel dungeons.)

UP is a lvl 80 instance. I believe (ie/ I don't know for sure lol) that if you are lvl 80, in a lvl 80 instance, you get the rep for whichever tabbard you're wearing. You don't get rep doing 10 or 25 man instances though.

Dungeons are not associated with any specific faction rep. Other members of your group have no effect on rep.

You were level 80, in a level 80 instance, with a Wyrmrest tabard on. You would get Wyrmrest rep in any level 80 instance. Less than level 80, no rep. Different tabard, different rep. No tabard, but level 80 in a level 80 instance, you get Alliance Vanguard (or the Horde equivalent) rep.

All heroic instances are treated as level 80.

I'm a mage. In the last days I have been able to get some money, I'm around 65 gold, so I guess I'll get one. It's too boring to walk when most of people have a mount.

Hmmm, Come to think of it, a level 80 character of mine was in normal violet hold and got rep for wearing a tabard. The rep was considerably less then I would have got in heroic violet hold and I don't believe that normal violet hold is a level 80 instance (I believe you can run it at level 74 or so).

Someone who has played as a Frost Mage and wants to share some good PVE build ?

Couple of things. I've discovered http://www.dkpsigs.com/, a site that allows you to make a custom WoW Signature, which I did, but i have been unable to get it to appear in the MacRumor Forums in my signature slot. They have links for URL to Sig, HTML, BBCode, but all of them appear as just a link, instead of a graphic in the signature. I'm wondering if MacRumors does not allow that feature?

Secondly, it's a lot of work to be a Tank. :) I rejoiced when I got my Pally Tank up to 550 Defense, but when running Heroics, at times I'm providing a challenge to my healer to keep me going. I'm currently working on my Block, Parry, and Agility stats. The Protection Pally Field Manual at Elitest Jerks is an outstanding document I'm using for reference. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Here are my stats at WoW Heros.

I'm sure this is no revelation for experienced players but if you are new to the game, Tank and Healer seem to be the two specs that require the most work and competence. A DPS spec is much more casual friendly.

Yep, bad healers or tanks and the run is a bust. Many runs will just replace a bad DPS and keep going.

It looks like you barely register on wow-heroes radar :) You could spend some money/time in your BSing and get the "Tempered Titansteel" helm and boots. That would allow you to gem a little more. You could get other upgrades through heroic instances from a combination of drops and badges:

Belt
Gloves
Legs
Wrist
Sword

There are also some surprisingly good world drops to look for in the AH:
Shoulders

The best trinkets seem to come from badge vendors as do the rings and neck items. Since my chars are all DPS, I also supplemented some PVP gear from honor rewards. Not sure if there is any pvp gear that would help a tank too much.

In my experience, tanking is something that also requires practice so, you may want to run the Northrend instances on normal for practice if you want to feel more confident. Volunteer to take people through them as they are always looking for tanks and heals. If it's the daily, you will at least get badges...

Not bad to start. After the next patch, heroics will give out emblems of conquest and you will be able to get Ulduar level equipment by doing heroics.

One thing I did notice is that you were missing a lot of enchants. Putting a cheap lower level enchant on your equipment is better then no enchant at all even if you plan on replacing the equipment.

The best thing you can do is get into the heroics and learn the fights from a tanking perspective. Heroic Violet Hold is in Dalaran, is a quick instance, one of the easier heroics, and drops some epic tanking gear (along with badges).

Have you tried out some Wintergrasp yet ?

This toon definitely needs some work. I restarted last Dec as a L60 and just kind of did whatever came my way with no real focus on gear, somehow thinking I would just stumble across what I needed. Wrong! Tanks must educate themselves and seek out the good gear.

I'm working on enchants as we speak, but thanks for mentioning it! I've done regular Violet Hold several times. I guess I should try it on Heroic. What got me down a while back was doing heroic UK and being beat down by mobs in there. This was when I had about 530 Def, now I have 550. I'll give it another go. I'm also gathering mats for a Titansteel Bone Crusher while working on Sons of Hodir rep. :)

No, have not done Wintergrasp yet. I take it I should? :)

Many people make the mistake of randomly doing instances in hopes of gearing up. What you need to do is

- Check a site like mmo-champion to see what each instances drops
- Check the reputation tab on worldofwarcraft.com to see what rep gear there is
- Check a site like thottbot.com to see a list of craftable gear.
- Know your class and determine what stats you need (block, hit, expertise, etc)
- Figure out from the list above, what equipment you want to get.

It sounds like a lot of work but really it isn't. Instead of playing one night, do the research and save yourself a bunch of time by discovering what instances you want to do and what rep you need to get.

You should definitely at least try Wintergrasp a few times. It occurs every 2.5 hours and you should try to get in a raid group before it starts (/1 or /2 in Dal)

Moto and Plut, thanks guys for the advice! I'm working on it. The Prot Pally Field Manual I linked a few posts ago is one of the best single documents of it's kind for Pally Tanks. Keep in mind, my goal here is not to become number one, far from it. I just want to be competent doing heroic 5 party dungeons. I'll probably try a few 10s too.

Is your other spec ret or holy and are you in a guild that does heroics and will they help you out in them ?

I would just download AtlasLoot Add-on and you can check all of this stuff in-game. Plus download the addon RatingBuster. This will show you the item level and give you stats of the items. For example for a rogue it'll tell you Agi=crit% and attackpower. Pretty cool addon for the game.

I am in a guild that does heroics and they have offered to help me with heroics. Just starting to take them up on it. What I really like is that most heroics are short encounters. I've just never had the patience to do the most difficult dungeons (25-40 player raids) in the game. Thanks for asking. :)

Thanks for the heads up. In these addons can you search for stuff based on spec?

When the next patch comes out, everyone will be doing heroics again.

If you are in a guild that will help you out on heroics, consider changing to ret (if you aren't) for your second spec. A reasonably geared and knowledgeable party should have no problem carrying you through the heroics as DPS. It will give you a chance to experience / learn the instances and pick up some tanking gear before you attempt to tank the heroics.

Did you get a chance to try Wintergrasp and how did it go ?
