Because it’s a pioneer in the industry. If you look at it from a broad perspective it’s WINTEL dualopoly that democratized computing and made it cheap enough for most people to afford a computer and access alter Internet. Most people weren’t gonna buy expensive 10,000 NeXT work stations or 3,000 dollar Macintoshes. So, they deserve some respect for their contributions to the industry. I wouldn’t count them out either.

Respect isn't guaranteed, you need to keep it. Sitting around talking about the old days isn't going to cut it. This isn't some old man, its a company with new mangers new people all the time, when the new people perform poorly or doesn't care, they lose respect.

The new CEO, Mr. Geslinger, is an esteemed gentleman within the engineering community and I think he has the chops to turn things around.
His “style” presented in some of the comments made on his return feels like the same mindset, just from an engineering perspective. For me, it remains to be seen if they can do anything to improve their outlook. When you get right down to it, though, AMD will never match their production and Apple’s only making processors for themselves. So, they’ve got a nice long glide path to either turn it up or down.

I don't like the snide remarks people are making about Intel since the switch to Apple silicon began. Remember, Macintosh was using Intel for 15 years and it actually breathe new life into the platform.
... for 5-6 years.

Since 2010-2011 intel has been totally stagnant and we've been dealing with hot and loud portables whilst the iPad, iPhone, and every other mobile device has been rapidly gaining performance with minimal passive cooling.

It’s the wintel duopoly that nearly ruined the computer industry, and did make it stagnate for 20 years. They ”deserve” nothing. Your point is dumb.

You have no clue what you're talking about. AMD TDP is configurable with utility in OS or through BIOS. I have my AMD 4650U set for 15W limit vs 25W since the performance is still plenty while fanless under every day load and the fan only comes on lightly at full load similar to MBP M1.
Again, you have no idea what is the meaning of TDP, it isn’t the power consumption of the chip!!
You don’t have a fanless computer

Remember, Macintosh was using Intel for 15 years and it actually breathe new life into the platform. Considering how much PowerPC was a dead end, especially from Motorola on the mobile side, it was very a much crisis if Apple didn't have Intel. I'm sure ARM processors from 2005 to 2015 weren't powerful enough run macOS (OS X).

Keep in mind also, Apple continues to sell a vast majority of their Macintosh portfolio on Intel. We need to respect Intel while saying goodbye at the same time. Some of the comments I've read kinda give the impression of this is how you would treat people in real life too. If a friend helped you out for 15 years and helped you get your work done then of course is starting to decline because another friend can do so same things a little bit better, doesn't mean you need to be nasty.

Even Jobs has talked about this kinda nasty 'us vs them' behavior in past in keynotes (Macworld '97). You wanted Microsoft Office, yet you are booing the CEO of the company who makes it.
You make some good points, but neglect to account for the way Intel has been going out of its way to badmouth Apple. The stones in the relationship were cast by Intel first. The family and friends are merely standing with their side. But it does get over the top, the hate displayed for Intel. I for one respect Intel and wish them future success. Perhaps as a foundry.

Stop thinking so emotionally, your feelings do not matter to corporations. This is not a friend, this is a multi dollar billion corporation.

At the end of the day, humans design and build CPU's, its a person with a lot of intellect that invests decades of their lives building these things. Apple is just as corporate as Intel from its supply chain, all the way to its own CEO.

It seems like Intel is scared of Apple since they keep running all these ads against them. Otherwise... why bother?

Also... where are AMD's ads? They're more of an underdog than Intel is.

But we haven't heard a peep out of AMD.

I would feel bad too, if a 15 year relationship was being phased out. Yeah, I admit, Intels approach to this is not great, but at the same time, there is no need to sweep them under the carpet like they didn't exist for the past 15 years in Macintosh computers. Apple is still selling Intel based Macs, there are still over a hundred million Macs running them. Those are not gonna be replaced over night either. I just find the arguments suggesting Intel Macs were crappy machines is a little bit disingenuous, considering that we didn't complain until the rumors about native Apple Silicon might show up this year. What if Tim Cook said we gonna strengthen our partnership with Intel even more at WWDC last year instead? We would all be hearing crickets.

Apple Silicon is fantastic, I'm a believer and you sure won't see me buying another Intel based Mac for the foreseeable future. But, we need to remember, they helped Apple build some awesome machines over the past 15 years.

So, you really can't make a point without saying my point is dumb. Ignore enabled. I don't see how industry has been stangnant for the past 20 years when you look at the wealth generated not just by the companies, but also the businesses that have built on top it. I'm sure Linux, didn't stagnate, since it was built on top x86 and continues to thrive. I am sure when you go to an ATM, check your balance or withdraw cash, or interact with a POS in a business that's likely running on a business you are able to complete your transactions on x86. I am sure the millions of developers around the world were able to make a decent livelihood writing software that targeted x86, the hundreds of thousands IT Professionals, IHVs.

Seriously, whatever you are talking about Windows and Intel ruining the industry, you really don't know what you are reading.

This is macrumors - we are not here to weigh arguments in the pursuit of justice - we are here to bash inferior tech ...
It wasn't inferior for the past 15 years though, YouTubers are now cutting on Apple Silicon Macs that's for sure. The main point for me is, imagine if there was no such thing as Apple Silicon, would we all be bashing Intel as much? Nope! Even Apple disagrees, the fact that we still have Intel Macs for sale, is justification itself that they still matter enough for Apple to still keep selling them. Or, whatever Apple plans for the upper end, is still not good enough.

At AMD we always knew our customers were named Dell, HP, Asus, etc.

It's really sad and pathetic watching Intel scratch and claw as their ship takes on water. Stepping on anyone's head to keep from drowning. This is the stuff that makes me somewhat happy their reign is over. The M1 processor is so underrated, and Apple silicon is one of the best Apple technologies since the iPhone. The things it will do with Macs are going to change the future of Apple and MacOS.

Well I guess most people won't look at this in detail and notice that it is a Mac. But still it is quite the screwup
When you work for a bigass company like Intel (well...not for long) you are paid what you're paid for to also watch out for these details.

was it a slip-up though? i mean they've made it clear that they still want apple as a client. "thin and light laptop" sounds unspecific enough to use a mac imho)
Apple has made it clear they aren’t interested.

Doesn’t matter how generic the term is, the laptop pictured doesn’t even feature the processor they are talking about, nor would the MacBook Pro be considered a “thin and light”.
