Is 1680 x 1050 the default that came with the 2016?

Yes

Scrolling in a folder stutters? can you please open the Activity Monitor along with it?
Sorry I am too lazy to make another video. Just look at the numbers:

iGPU inside 2016 model is Intel HD 530 which has performance of 441.6 GFLOPS
iGPU inside 2015 model is Intel Iris Pro 5200 which has performance of 832 GFLOPS

About to leave for the apple store now and see how laggy it is. Will update
[doublepost=1479591631][/doublepost]Also, i feel like that stuttering might be a software issue because it doesnt stutter on mine and i currently have a mid 2010 13 inch lol

2010 will never stutter because it's doesn't have to push 4 times as many pixels as on a Retina display.

Iris Pro 5200?

I have a 2015 2.8/1TB/16GB/370x dGPU maxed out MBP and my iGPU is "Iris Pro 1536MB" is that the same as your 5200?

Guys, I made a video of the stutter. Basically in the video I am comparing scrolling of 2015 vs 2016 model. See for yourself.

Thanks! That's horrendous, and what upsets me the most is the fact that they could've easily picked the 6X70HQ CPUs, with the Iris Pro 580, like they did in previous generation. And prevented this subpar experience.
That said, my late 2013 with the Iris Pro 5200 also stutters a bit in Finder scrolling (still much less than your 2016 though); Quartz Debug says it's between 30 and 40fps, so there may be a software component in the issue. I wonder if doing a clean install could help.

If you are getting 30-40 FPS on 2013 then there's no stutter at all. The FPS on 2016 model i posted is probably close to 5-10, otherwise if it was 30 FPS then you wouldn't be able to tell since I shot the video in 30FPS.

What conditions did you set up to create this effect?

Like did you force turn off the radeon GPU and run a bunch of programs on other desktops? Or is this something you can see with only a couple things running and the radeon GPU enabled?

Does this just happen out of the box scrolling through random OS windows?

Otherwise I really loved the new 2016 15". I just can't stand any kind of stutter. Especially at this price. I will probably return it for 13" TB, since it has Iris 550. But then I will have to downgrade to Dual core CPU, which also sucks!

I may as well just keep to my 2015 15". Will have to decide soon.

I own the 2015 15" rMBP and I was at the Apple Store today running the two units side-by-side.

I scrolled quickly through Facebook and did pinch zoom on Facebook.
I also loaded a 10 page PDF and scrolled and pinch zoomed.

There *may have been* some stuttering on the 2016, but it seemed to work well enough for me compared with my current model. It feels lighter and smaller and much more subjectively than the 0.5 lb difference would suggest.

This benchmark comparison suggests that the iGPU in the 2015 model is only about 20% faster than that of the 2016 unit.

I preferred the newer keyboard. I think I would make fewer typing errors with the new keyboard, but it is definitely louder than the 2015 model.

The screen of the 2016 model seemed much brighter than my 2015 model. I was using them under a skylight on a sunny day, so something simulating outside/sunlight.

Arstechnica review suggest over 900 minutes for web browsing battery life on the iGPU:

For me, unit size/weight for a 15" is important as is battery life. I'm not such a heavy user of the 4 CPUs usually.

Both were set to automatic graphics switching and all applications on both of them closed. Both were restored from the same Time Machine backup. Both were set to scaled resolution of 1680 by 1050.

Wow that just made up my mind, I couldn't buy a 2016 with all that sticky scrolling, that's terrible. Why would Apple put a less powerful internal graphics compared to last year?

Yep, I'd say mine's like your 2015, not 60fps smooth but still smooth enough. The new model is a disaster. Normally I'd hope in a software fix, but unless they radically change the scaling system or UI transparencies it's unlikely we'll see any improvements. The HD530 is really abysmal.
Anyway you can check FPS with Quartz Debug from http://adcdownload.apple.com/Develo...or_Xcode_7.2/Graphics_Tools_for_Xcode_7.2.dmg

I think that's because on the late 2016 the baseline model also has a dGPU.

I wouldn't exchange it for the 13". 15" is nice! And the 2015 model is very, very nice and for many people who don't need the performance but like the larger screen size, it is a great machine.

Geeeeeeez!

Can anyone else who personally owns a 2016 15" and has it right now please confirm if all the OS windows stutter like that?

Sounds like a defective machine, obviously, but maybe the whole darn line just has the wrong hardware in it lol!

Yes

So the lower the GFLOPS # the better? It would appear yes since it's stuttering on the 2016 but not the 2015

Higher GFLOPS performs better. The reason why 2016 stutters is because Apple choose to use inferior iGPU in the new model.

I own a late 2012 mac mini running Mavericks it's a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB it also has a SSD drive and I have never ever had any lag or stutter, in fact after seeing your video I opened up the same finder and scrolled and it's butter smooth and fast. I'm in the market to buy a new laptop as I'm running a 2009 Dell Studio and I want to get a Macbook Pro only because I want a 15" but I'm seriously thinking of a 2015 Macbook Pro instead of the 2016 model after seeing this. My problem is that I want at least 500 SSD and that means I have to get the AMD graphics card I don't need since I don't game.

To be fair, not all windows stutter. Here is where I noticed most stuttering:

1. Scrolling inside "Applications" folder
2. Scrolling through messages in Microsoft Outlook
3. Scrolling in heavy websites
4. Zooming in http://www.istocknow.com
5. Mission control.
6. Minimizing windows

Your mac mini will never stutter because it doesn't drive a Retina display which requires pushing 4 times as many pixels.
It's up to you which machine to get. I just wanted to demonstrate the difference.

Yeah but that is enough to seriously irritate me, some might be able to put up with it but I'm not one of them. The min and maximizing of windows with stutter would drive me crazy.
[doublepost=1479595747][/doublepost]Thanks for the video and I hope they fix this or maybe you got a lemon unless others can confirm it's happening to them. It seems we would be hearing a lot more of this if it was happening to all 2016's. This is the first I've seen of this, perhaps you should contact Apple and refer them to your video for reference. Good luck.

Just got back from the apple store, zero lag on the 15 inch. The one i played around on was 2.6 ghz and 450 gpu. Another thing i noticed was that the space grey doesnt look as nice as i thought, i actually prefer silver now. I kind of want to change my order but im scared they'll delay my delivery even more

I don't think there will be an issue with lag. It's not as simple as "just put a faster GPU and it won't lag".

But, in reallity, I doubt Apple would put that card in there if it would lag. "But they did it with the iMac 5K base model!". No, they didn't - the M290X runs great - it was a software issue they fixed with El Capitan.

Even with all that negative talk, I do think Apple engineers want to provide the best experience. The HD 530 draws less power than the Iris Pro. Since every MacBook Pro will have a dedicated Radeon, I think it made sense to use the HD 530 instead - but not at the cost of lag (so I have faith they made the best choice).

Also, if it does by any chance lag, you can always turn off Automatic graphics switching in Settings and use just the Radeon card that is certainly more powerful than Iris Pro.
As you can see now that people are testing the machines with the 530 they do indeed have UI lag.
