Siri isn't good because it can process static commands, we've had things like that for years, Siri is good because of the artificial intelligence it uses. The problem with this new Google Now search, is it's still just dictating to a Google text search, which can be replicated by anyone. I used Siri to do a Google Search for each one of the examples posted above, and got the exact same result.

I'm not sure how these tests would go, because I'm not familiar with the new Google Now, but how about saying things like:

"Remind me when I get to my Dad's to call Mom and let her know I arrived."

"When is my next meeting with Scott?"

...

It's Siri's intelligence that sets it apart from just dictating the words into a Google search. Does the new Google Now have these capabilities?

Most of those commands will work. Issues with regards to semantics will only improve.

One big selling point is that Google search is quicker than Siri. We'll see how iOS responds to Google Now. Boy do I love competition. They're already coming out with a 7.85 inch tablet iPad that will cost below $249 apparently.

fyi, iOS suffers from fragmentation too. Not saying that Android doesn't have it's issues. They have a worst problem. Only 10.9% of Android devices are on ICS. And that OS came out almost 8 months ago.

No Siri support for iP4, as well as other features.

Why I'm staying on Android. Google Now and it's enhanced voice search capabilities.

YouTube: video

Wow. Awesome video. I think it shows its better than Siri. Far more search options.

Imagine what more will it be able to do in the next Android. I think Google, in difference with Apple, will not limit Google voice and Google Now. Apple limits Siri, like, for example, waiting one year to open apps.

Are there any videos showing this? They tried some on the Verge video review, but it just did a Google search for what he said.

I agree, this competition is great! I'm not sure if I'd like a smaller iPad, but hopefully this pushes Apple to make Siri faster!

Add the words "Google Search" in front, and Siri will give the exact same answer to everything in the video.

It hasn't been a year, it's been 8 months. Opening apps isn't the only thing new it can do. It would be stupid if Apple released a full product at once. They have to leave things out to add in future updates. Google is doing the same thing. Who knows how long it will be before Now can open apps.

Google Now can't open apps? I saw that failed in the verge video review, but thought it was a hiccup. Interesting.

Thanks for reminding me. I actually forgot. The only thing different is Google Now provides a card interface for Google Searches, that's all. Siri has been able to Google Search and provide the exact same answers as Now since it came out.

I think you should take a gander at the video I posted. theverge video does a very shallow testing of Google Now and it's voice search capabilities compared to what was posted all over the android tech blogs.

ill post again. clearly more voice functionality will be added, as well as cards. I love how Google iterates and reiterates without having to make major announcements. All the updates are done in the backend, like Siri, I'm assuming.

But it will take you out of Siri to go to Safari. Then you will have to go back again to Siri every time you ask a new question.

+1, as noted in the video. The disadvantage Google has is they can't fully integrate Youtube, Google Maps, Navigation, like Android can, since, well, it's all owned by Google!

The one saving grace for iOS6 is Yelp integration. That will be HIGHLY beneficial for iOS ecosystem imo. You know where Google Places is getting their user reviews and such? Zagat... BLEH

I think Google should have bought Yelp at all costs lol. That was a huge downer.

Big deal. Google Now takes you to the Search and you're a microphone tap away from talking again. Same with Siri. Do a Google Search and all you have to do is hold the home button for a second and Siri pops up.

You make it like accessing Siri is SUCH a hassle...

what is interesting is that if it were the other way around, and Apple had this feature. They would market it with all kinds of 'integration,' synergy' phrase words.

Let's not trivialize a neat feature that is solely in Android :p

Siri is a hardware button, getting back to Siri is still the same process it was to open it. I do agree, however, it would be better if it were integrated.

I watched that video, and it doesn't address any of the examples from my earlier post. Furthermore, Siri gives the exact same answers if I add the word "Google" in front of my question. Google Now seems to be a front-end to Google Search dictation.

And Google Now isn't even officially released yet.

It will only improve over time. Siri's been out almost a year now...

I'm impressed by how much it can handle this early in the pre-release cycle.

I think a lot of tech bloggers agree. Siri is a dud, as not many people use it. Let's see how Android users handle Google Now and it's enhanced voice search capabilities. Could go the same way as Siri. Only time will tell.

You mean accessing Google from within Siri? I don't see that as feature. I see it as just another way of accessing Google. You don't market the fact that you can see Google in Siri. Why would I trivialize it? It's nothing proprietary.

Unless I'm wrong, from what I've seen Siri did much much more at launch than Google Now does now.

Google Now is available to all the Google I/O attendees on two different pieces of hardware as well as through a downloadable ROM which is pretty much on every XDA members Galaxy Nexus. It's also coming very soon to owners of any ICS device from XDA. It's pretty much released.

Wow, thats pretty impressive. Cant wait for JB ....already! I just got ICS with my GS3 on Sunday...lol

you haven't even used a Google Now device yourself yet.

i disagree. I feel Google Now can do a lot more than when Siri was first released.

Yes, it's official when you have to root your phone, remove some apk files, and do other in-house changes to the root folder. It ain't official until JB OS is out, which is mid-July. Also, this will be improving via back end through Google so it's improving day by day.

Considering that everything Google Now does is directly available via Siri by adding the word "Google" in front of your question/command, I don't see how Google Now does more. It comes down to the Calendar/phone/reminder...etc functions, where Sori clearly (from the videos I've seen at least) has more functionality.

It's built into the Nexus 7...

Well lets see a video of it doing the same thing.

The only thing different Google Now gives a card interface where as adding Google to your Siri queries just brings up the answer at the top.

Go to Google.com, type a question that Google Now can answer, and you'll see what iPhone users see when they ask Siri. No video required.

----------

What's the point? All you have to do is type the command into Google to see how Siri would interpret the command.

----------

Yes, forgot to mention that. Jelly Bean with Google Now is being sold right now on the Nexus 7. It's out.

It's even officially released to I/O attendees so technically it is official. It's also on the I/O Gnex's.

Yes, but im not the one saying Siri is still better than Google now. Theres no use even debating with you. You must be one of Apples CEO's Son or something.
