Chiiiiiiiiiiill

It's an iPhone revamp year. Everyone knows what happens in an iPhone revamp year.

**** gets real!!

It is without a doubt coming to the S3. Right now as we speak Google/Sammy software engineers are probably coordinating for a JB S3 release hopefully by start of fall. <-- a guess.

I know jb is coming, I just hope project butter works on the S3. That's what I'm saying. Seems like a GUI overlay won't necessarily have the benefits.

In the video with the 40-something questions, the guy only asks for information. He doesn't do any productive things move events around, create events, etc. Sure it's nice to know when such and such movie was produced, but that's what makes it gimmicky.

He sets a timer.

He also tries to change system settings and it says that isn't supported (yet), which indicates it will be at some point.

Like what? All Google Now does grab the answer from a google search and displai it in a box.

...and speak the answer back. What good is displaying a google search result in a web page when I'm driving?

One thing I saw that Google can do that I haven't seen Siri do, but correct me if I'm wrong, is that you can say "call the grand hotel" or whatever business you like, and it does a search and automatically calls for you. Very useful :D

Yep, DodgeV83 and Batting1000 are nuts if they think Siri is near as good now.

Well I think they both have their advantages. At the moment Google voice can't open apps and Siri appears to be more intelligent in terms of actually knowing what you're asking for, but Google voice is a lot faster and presents information in a more desirable way by speaking it back.

Also, Apple bought Siri so it was already a complete product when they got it. It's therefore had longer than a year to develop. As for which ones better, it's too early to tell but ultimately I'll be using it to make calls and send texts whilst driving, and Googles voice recognition is second to none, so I think I'll get more use out of gv.

Its coming back in a week and will have Jelly Bean already installed. Awesome

???? I haven't seen this. Only thing I saw was on Appleinsider that says Google is working hard to get a work around pushed to Samsung. Do you have a link?

And this is one thing I don't get about this case. Apple is getting an import ban on Samsungs GNEx for a quick search box that is built into Android. It's not Samsung specific. And quite frankly, every cell phone and computer in the world has this feature. Not sure why Apple was able to patent a piece of software code that has been around for over a decade, but ironically this sets a precedent for Google to sue and ban all of Apple's iDevices once the Notification Center patent Google applied for in 2008 or 2009 gets approved.

This is another reason why banning really only harms consumers.

Nothing new there.

How often are you gonna be searching something when you're driving? The point is, you're more likely to use it when you can actually look at the screen than when you're driving. Siri will be built into cars soon, too.

I've found that I don't use Siri nearly as much when I can actually look at the screen... and being built into cars won't change that you'd still have to look at it.

I didn't say it was new, I was responding to your comment about him doing nothing productive:

"He doesn't do any productive things move events around, create events, etc."

Setting a timer is productive. You can also call phone numbers in your phone book, or ones that aren't in your phone book, or send a text message, etc. It does plenty of productive things.

I would only use the voice control when I can look at the screen if it's going to save me a significant amount of time. One example of this is saying "set alarm for 6am" rather than having to go into the alarm clock and set it there.

One such example of where you might use it whilst driving is if you and a passenger are having a debate about something.

Important!!

Google Search and Google Voice Search are an apps available in the google market. Does this mean that after JB they will get new updates just like apps Maps, Gmail and others from Google?

That would be awesome. No need to wait for new android updates to get additional features. It would update just like Maps and others, so we would get new cards in Google Now and all. I hope its this way.

I have been a member here on MacRumors since 2007 and I can't remember a time that I've seen as many posts and discussions regarding the possibility of straying from the iPhone.

Not really. I vividly remember when HTC EVO was all the rage here in 2010 and the forum since then has gotten a lot worse in terms of vocal iPhone opponents. We have a lot more posters who expresses their disdain for iPhone in Macrumors and iPhone supporters have also gotten much more vocal.

It's not just iPhone though. In mid 2011, the iPad forum was busy with posters asking if Motorola Xoom, Asus Transformer, Galaxy Tab is going to be better than iPad.

Oh and there was that period where everyone thought Apple was doomed forever after the introduction of iPhone 4S. Apple was completely outgunned by Android and the forum was packed, packed full of people who say Android will completely overwhelm iPhone 4S. Apple somehow went to record the biggest sales ever with iPhone 4S.

One thing I always say about Macrumors forum. I never seen a brand-focused forum with so many people who doubted and disliked the insanely successful company and its strategy and the products.

All I know is that Apple knows how to innovate. The Retina Macbook Pro is pure innovation.

iPhone 5 has some awesome potential and I believe they will release something great. Apple has an extra few months to muster greatness. I was disappointed that the 4S premiered 3 months late last year, but I believe the 5 will be spectacular.

I'm not sure if Google Now is a separate entity from Voice Search and Search. Probably is.
