The Galaxy S3 is indeed quite a huge leap in terms of hardware and design. Each version of the Galaxy S devices is a leap in terms of design and hardware. Not to mention that the software is indeed improving leaps and bounds. We consumers love to see new things, so naturally the new Galaxies out there is appealing to many of us!

Ive had a few of those phones. The S2 is considered one of the best smartphones ever made and you had problems with TWO of them? Plus other great phones like the Evo and Hero. Ummm, yea. Thats user error, stick with the iPhone and its simplicity then. We will handle the big boy phones :)

You had some of the best phones ever made(some twice) and you had issues will all of them? That's called user is a idiot. I find it hard to believe you had major issues with all of those phones, yet not one issue with your iPhone.

I also question how long he owned each phone if he went through so many in so such a span. I wouldn't be surprised if none of them were given a fair chance.

DodgeV83 isnt fair though and never mentions these things. Now says he never heard of that happening. Its been mentioned in these forums but i guess he ignored them like he does everything else he gets proven wrong.

He also keeps spouting "Fragmentation!" while forgetting the iPhone 4 didn't get Siri, nor will it get iOS 6's Navigation, both of which are flagship features.

I switched from my iPhone 4 to a Razr Maxx recently (need the 4G speed for work, the iPhone wasn't cutting it), with the full intention of going back to the iPhone 5 if the 4G model comes out in the fall. Now, I dunno, I'm actually liking this droid. I'll have to wait and see if the iPhone 5 will be worth switching to...

Yeah the battery on that phone is amazing too. You get the ICS update. Its rolling out now.

I tend to agree. It's going to take more than what's out there to get me to give up on the Apple ecosystem. That said Apple has got to start innovating again. They have been a year behind for what seems like forever now. They need to be a leader, not a follower. Only doing one phone a year is going to lead to being behind but that makes it so much more important for that phone to be leading edge. Waiting a year for things like 4G just isn't going to cut it anymore. They've got to stop this incremental update crap. Give us what you can and think of something else for next year, not hold things back. The OS is getting stale and people are getting sick of. At some point they have to change the look of things. As threads around here have shown people are tired of waiting and are leaving. This follows through into the real world where my non techy friends and family have started leaving the iPhone to Android due to several of these issues. Screen size is a huge one. I think it's getting to be time where Apple needs more than one model, a small screen and a big screen. They have a loyal amount of followers who like the smaller screen size but a large portion are begging for something bigger.

I have been a member here on MacRumors since 2007 and I can't remember a time that I've seen as many posts and discussions regarding the possibility of straying from the iPhone. Just look at the threads up now. A lot of talk about iPhone vs. the Galaxy. iOS vs. Android (and Windows). Talk about the Nexus and other smartphone options.

I have to admit, I'm starting to think about jumping ship too (I'm test driving a Lumia 900 now. I like it but still lean slightly towards my iPhone 4...but I digress). The Galaxy S3 look mighty sexy. I'm still waiting to see what the iPhone "5" shapes up to be but, if it's essentially a longer (4 inch) iphone with LTE, I'm gonna have to give some serious thought to alternatives...something I would have NEVER done even a year ago. I've had every iteration of the iPhone and used nothing but an iPhone for the last 5 years.

I'm a major Apple fanboy (friends and family actually tease me about my Apple obsession) so it's tough to admit that the iPhone might be falling behind a bit. That is my personal impression of course.

I do realize that my observations are purely anecdotal but, it just seems that I'm not the only Apple nut feeling this way lately.

Damn, the S3 IS pretty sexy. I'm rooting for an awesome new iPhone in a few months though. I hope. :)

I think you (and others on MacRumors) fail to take into account that the *nerds* :p on here only represent a very, very small portion of Apple's users. On the whole, I think most people (read: non nerds) are happy with iPhone and if they don't have one, they want one.

Very true, most people could care less about what we care about. People want what they want and I think the new larger screen smart phones are very appealing to these casual users.

It will be very interesting to see what Apple pulls out of their hat this fall, will it be a 'catch up' phone? Or will it truly 're-innovate' and catch people's attention all over again, obliterating the idea that Android may be a true contender?

Geez, we have how long until Fall? A couple of months or longer? I think we are going to see A LOT more of these threads until then! LoL

I think people post these types of threads because they are insecure. They are reluctant to change phones so they feel they need people to post on a thread they make so they can feel better about their decision.

These threads just end up turning into debates as to which OS is better.

Look at the join dates of the majority of people complaining. To me, that says far more of the story than anything else.

For a short while, the iPhone was the most technologically advanced phone out there and millions flocked to it - expecting Apple to always be the top, cutting edge devices. The problem is that, while Apple is the most advanced in many avenues, their products in general are not always the fastest.

I believe it's those people who are the ones causing the most complaints... because they finally realized that Apple doesn't operate the way they think they should.

People buying Apple computers don't buy them because they're the fastest around or the cheapest.

Personally, I just wish those not happy with Apple would simply leave and let this site get back to what it's supposed to be- talking about rumors of future products and helping one another.

I can't be the only one tired of people complaining, comparing every little thing to an Android device, or calling those who willingly choose to use Apple products iSheep, punch drinkers, or some other derogatory term.

Amen.

I think threads like this just come and go based on where we are in the iPhone release cycle. A new shiny appears elsewhere, a very small minority of total smartphone users follows it like a new god. Then the next iPhone is released and that same group of people whipshaw back to the iPhone 5 for a few months. Then the process repeats itself.

What you are witnessing isn't the season of discontent. Rather, you are watching how easily the gadget lovers are manipulated by marketing spin.

Being a apple fan for a long time, I think ill be sold if Google can put its foot down on the Google Play Store and start being stricter with its Quality of the Apps currently being offered on the App Store, mainly for the Nexus Series so that we can have one SOLID Line of phones + Quality apps with the Google Play Store full of amazing as well as Every App Offered on iOS as well as no junk.

Being open source is great but we need some sort of boundaries for what ends up in the Play store and what doesn't. Being a heavy App user I consider it important to have just about any and every functionality available via an app much like on iOS...if you can think of it, its available(pretty much) but for Android we are limited and have to settle with "Similar" options instead for a lot of applications that developers design for "iOS" specifically. Also Google Play Store being enhanced and policy in place we can expect more and more developers to look forward to making Cross-Platform apps rather than taking a stab at iOS first. Google needs to step it up enough so developers want to make sure they make the App for Android if they are going to make one for iOS.

Also not to mention that I hate the whole gmail sign in situation...its similar but I like the iCloud setup much better how everything in in one place....Google needs to attach google drive for backups, contacts, reminders, notes etc into that whole sync system and have a standalone mail app that you add accounts to separately rather than through the "Accounts & Sync" because then all your contacts end up being on all of your gmail accounts you have or hotmail etc etc which can become annoying. Contact management in Android needs to improve...majority of the time android adds unnecessary contacts to my lists....some are even from just be sending out emails while others are from the random emails I replied to over the years. Yes we can figure out the way to sort our contacts...but it should be smooth and 1 step out of the box(at least for the Nexus Series...I can could care less for any other manufacturer of Android)

There are some notable apps, which are available on both Android an iOS, yet don't run on the HTC One X, despite running on the iPhone 3GS. I've seen many examples of apps not running on specific Android devices, but running on ther less powerful versions for some reason. Apparently each Android version and each carrier modification has resulted in each carrier using a different audio subsystem. I've seen audio not work in some devices, but work in others.

The problem is more with apps than with OS versions.
The nature of open source is one that breeds freedom. Like other "features" no matter what the platform, it has it's pros and cons.

At no point did Android or their hardware partners, assure that every app would be available on every device. Or that all hardware would be compatible. Those who do just a bit of research before buying an Android device are aware of this.

There is no perfect smartphone, laptop, car, etc. That's why we have to use our eyes to read and our brains to think through the decision making process.

Simpletons like Apple products best, little to no thinking required. Apple says "It just works" a slogan designed to attract the masses. It's been incredibly appealing to many people who repeat it here over and over and over. They even use it to bash Android.

How easy is that? :)

Yeah it seems as if most talk in this section is down-talk of the iPhone now. I'm first to admit to all my friends that their Android phones may do more than my iPhone but its the only phone for me so far so when the iPhone 5 comes out I will be getting it and I love my 4s. Its cool people can get what they're comfortable with. A lot of people these days have an iPhone now, just to have an iPhone.

Re:

here's a question: what.....do you need your phone to do? I went till 2010 with a dumb phone before deciding to get my first smartphone (Droid X). Taking many trips I wanted it for maps, emergencies, finding places etc without chugging along a laptop and finding a hotspot.

Here it is in 2012 and I'm constantly reading people's post about this phone coming out and that phone coming out and oh I wouldn't get this phone because the next one will be better (even I am guilty)

When I bought my 4S I broke it down to the simple things: mp3 player, navigation system, email, social networks, latest news etc. I can do that and then push my phone to the side to take part in face to face conversations.

I think too many people get caught up in shiny parts - OMG it flips pancakes - I want it! And after the glitter wears off they are looking for new shiny parts.

You have to understand that this is the net and people can say anything without proving anything.

We are all AAPL products users or former users, anyway possible buyers.
So I do not see any reason why some comments are more welcome than others just because they do not display the way you want...

The problem is not the iPhone. Its iOS.

People are starting to get tired of a closed OS with no customization options, less exciting features each year, etc.

Thats why I bought a SGS3 after 2 years with iOS. iOS 6 was also a reason. If it had been much better then probably I would have stayed.

You CANNOT believe how much better the Google Maps is from iOS new Maps. And the YouTube app? The Gmail app? Google Chrome? The Peoples app (with updates from twitter and Facebook and everything right inside)? The new Google Search?

iOS is far behind and Apple is not doing anything. Just making it worse with their new Maps app...

I haven't seen an Android phone that can do more than an iPhone. Everytime I do this comparison with an Android co-worker, he exhausts the "widgets, keyboards, task managers...etc" list well before I exhaust mine.

It doesn't do more things, it does different things.

You can add to that the stock keyboard too. ICS' keyboard is leaps and bounds better than iOS', which constantly misses keys which lead to horrible autocorrections. Plenty of examples of this on the web from those "Damn You iPhone Auto Correction" type sites, a phenomenon which the iOS keyboard gave birth to. The lack of a suggestion bar, and the inability to pick and choose what the dictionary remembers and doesn't remember makes it inferior too.

And now with JB's upgrades, the stock Android keyboard will have Swiftkey predictions. It's pulling away from Apple. And the crazy thing is, Apple didn't announce a single thing to improve the iOS keyboard in 6.

The slow incremental updates is becoming a real turn off.

Man, how do you deal with Android then?

You do realize most of those on there are fake. And what missed keys? iOS has been great over all these years I've been typing on it.

What makes you think I forgot about it, because I didn't mention it in a non-related post?

You can't compare one or two new OS features, which came out over a year after the phone's debut, to the large number of both existing and future applications that simply don't work on a large number of handsets.

The iPhone 3GS has all 200+ iOS6 features, besides two, and it already didn't have one of them. It's normal for Android phones to never get an update to the new OS, or to get it a year later, after a newer version is already out.

If you have an iPhone 4 right now, which came out in mid-2010, you can run 100% of the apps in the AppStore. If you have an iPhone 3GS, which came out in mid-2009, you can run all but 1 or 2 (that I'm aware of) apps available today.

No Android phone has anything close to those numbers.
