Yup, all they need to do now is add a Home Button w/ TouchID, and I'll throw them all my money for a Pro.

I'm mostly kidding, of course, that ship has sadly sailed.

But, could you imagine how many of the Home Button haters on here would act like it was the best thing ever if Apple did make a Home Button w/ TouchID a Pro exclusive on the 16?

:)

If apple brings back the touchID and home button; they can happily go on without me. the button is outdated and id rather see apple work on the fingerprint sensor under the screen that they’ve been working on for a while, not go backwards… but I like innovation 🤷🏾‍♂️ and Wi-Fi 6e is hardly used yet commercially so it would be dumb to upgrade to something you’ll be hard pressed to use

Yes under the screen or on power like Android has had

I don't have a problem with Apple (or other companies) offering different features for different levels/prices of phones. There doesn't have to be "one size fits all" smartphones as not everyone wants/needs the same features, camera capabilities, storage sizes, etc. This allows buyers to more closely pick a phone suited to their needs whether it be Pro versus regular, 128GB versus 1TB or whatever.

I guess this is where they start to offer features to prop up the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max over the iPhone 15. Sad.

Really how hard would it be to use a newer WiFi chip on all the iPhone 15 models?
it's actually pretty hard when what you are planning to do is re-label the iphone14 pro as the iPhone 15 without making a single hardware change.

I'm examining this from perspective of using the iPhone 15 as a hotspot for other Apple devices that support 6E (M2 11"/12.9" iPad Pros, M2 Pro/Max 14"/16" MBPs, M2/Pro Mac mini's). You could yes say its more of a premium feature in the short term because it's new and not so many people utilize it, but soon it will be standard. It would certainly help sell more iPhones. ;)

I don’t think anyone here would expect anything different from Apple.
This is Tim Cook’s Apple and it’s a far cry from Steve Jobs’ Apple.
Imagine if after iPhone 3GS, Steve had introduced an iPhone 4 pro with the Retina display and a “regular” iPhone with the same low res screen as in the 3GS. It would never have happened.
And today we’d just have an iPhone - maybe in 2-3 sizes - but all models would have the pro motion display with AOD and any new features such as Wi-Fi 6e, because they used to care about making the best product and not manipulative marketing tactics to edge customers to spend more money on a “pro” line.

They ever gonna come back to making routers?

My apple refurbished AirPort Extreme wireless AC served me well for many years.

Moved onto an Asus wifi 6 'gaming' router that has been a good replacement. reliable and stable

No. There’s little benefit to selling a product that average consumers buy once a decade or so (if they buy one at all rather than using the one provided by their ISP).

Unless we see an official AirPort Router only Made by Apple. I don't expect or see a major difference in speed. As you stated; it's just a tiny detail with literally no benefits yet Apple will slap a $100 Pro price.

Why would you imply that the $100 premium only includes this feature, given the past several years and pretty clear differences between the pro and base models?

Maybe it’s the best for a diversity of purposes and purses.

Volvo shied away from making a convertible because in roll over it wasn’t as safe as a closed car … they were thinking wrong … then they thought different … when they realized that a Volvo convertible only had to be safer than other convertibles they were able to expand their horizons.

Curious what one would be doing on an iPhone that needs the speed afforded by WIFI 6E over WIFI 6? I have Gigabit internet at home with WIFI6 and my iPhone 13 PM can't even use all the bandwidth.

Ehhh….. I’m sorry but you may not know what is all included in the WiFi 6E standard but it’s about more than speed. Power efficiency, more stable operation etc. Lots of changes in 6E vs 6.

Apple has always been slow to adopt industry standards. They used to lead the pack and exceed most standards. Now… not so much.

I wonder how long Cook will remain CEO.

It doesn’t. It includes one of the features. However, just like every year, the list is growing. It’s just for many it won’t be appealing and won’t justify the $100 price.

Many people told me by the time Apple adopts Wi-Fi 6E. Wi-Fi 7 will be out in the market. 😇
Yes, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for android phones features wifi 7. Likely the samsung s23 series (due out in a few days) will ship with this and with wifi 7 standard, as well as every other Android Flagship from that point on. The S21 ultra (now two years old) was one of the earlier phones to support wifi 6e.

It’s not just about speed. 6Ghz is a less used frequency range, so it’s less likely to suffer interference. Having 6Ghz available as well as the other frequencies guarantees a more stable and reliable connection.
Yes. Exactly. This and many other changes. Thanks for making this point!

Pro res video files are rather large.

Of course USB-C would help in that regard, too.

6E is not faster than 6! They have the same top speed.

In fact in many cases it will be slower, as the signal cannot travel as far.
The benefit of it is that it is in an uncontested sprectrum zone, so if you are in a very busy area, you are more likely to get near to the top speed than on 5Ghz. But if you have a correctly configured Wi-Fi setup at home with correct placement you will unlikely see much benefit at all.

I max out a 1.1Gb connection over 5Ghz with a 80mz channel width . Considering the max link speed of the new m2 macs with 6E is 1.2Gbps ( 2x2 mimo ) ( the same as the Wi-Fi 6 link speed ) , it is of no benefit
