Is it just me or does the existence of the “Pro” model backfire for other people, too?

Its high price tag makes it completely uninteresting. And it’s existence makes the other iPhone lame by comparison and absolutely not worth getting.

So you end up just not buying an iPhone at all.

IDK, I don’t feel that way about the Mac lineup. I was fine with it when it was just a Plus and regular iPhone. But the “Pro” iPhones really rub me the wrong way. They just make the entire iPhone brand seem icky.
Literally my experience this year. I was all set to get the 14 Pro but they hiked the price beyond what I would pay for a phone (I’m in the UK).

When I looked at the 14 regular and 14 Plus it just seemed cynical/insulting that they were so gimped and essentially last year’s phone (also price hiked!) that I didn’t even consider buying them.

So I didn’t end up buying a new iPhone this year.

Just my experience but I’d consider myself an Apple enthusiast so if that was my thinking and possibly yours then I’d imagine others responded similarly.

If you have a 13 Pro Max there is literally no reason to buy the 14 Pro Max. Complete lateral waste of an upgrade.

I know because I did it. LOL

Now I don’t even have the “option” to use a SIM card.

Apple wants to have the consumers purchase only the Pro models. Apple seriously needs to consider moving the regular dollar iPhone lineup in the Spring event. Save the Fall event just for the Pro models exclusively.
You know what? This would be a great idea IMO. Especially now that the Pro carries the new system-on-a-chip. With two peaks of sales. In my opinion, the regular iPhone lineup should focus a lot more on value (yeah, that means lowering prices and making the regular iPhone a bit more appealing)

Don’t want to sound like a sheep, but considering how long Wi-Fi versions are supported, this isn’t really a big deal. The every day people who order the non-Pro versions won’t notice. Wi-Fi 6 will be supported long before the phone dies or the user upgrades.
Like say 5G modems in an iPhone... Until this day it's a nice to have feature but I turn it off for better battery life.

Heck... I wish I could manually turn off 2G/3G/5G and just stay on 4G to save on battery.

For those people complaining that Apple offers Pro iPhone models that aren‘t really ”pro” - what Apple has done with the iPhone lineup is simply expand the size of the lineup in the most efficient way possible, following a path they have been on for years in other product categories. iPhone Pro [and Pro Max] are simply part of this naming convention, not some professional work model, though I’m sure millions of people use their iPhone Pro’s as part of their daily work (effectively making them a professional product).

Apple was already using the Pro model designation with their computers, which was the starting point for what a Pro product was. Carrying that to the iPhone and AirPods makes complete sense. Each Pro product offers something
”more” that the non-pro models lack, and for those who want these specific something’s, and are willing to pay for them, Apple offers these products.

Almost every company does similar things, even if they’re calling them something different than a pro model. You can buy a cheeseburger at McDonalds, but you can also buy a Big Mac, and it costs more for obvious reasons. You can buy a VW Passat, or get an Audi A4 for a decidedly higher price.

Getting Wi-Fi 6e on one or both Pro iPhones, or maybe it will only be available on the iPhone Ultra, shouldn’t be a surprise, and for the VAST majority of consumers, it won’t even hit their radar or effect their use of whatever iPhone they buy, especially given the huge lag that exists in updating wireless routers.

I guess this is where they start to offer features to prop up the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max over the iPhone 15. Sad.

Really how hard would it be to use a newer WiFi chip on all the iPhone 15 models?
hard ? its not about how hard, it's about reducing costs and giving more incentives to move to pros

guess these news sceal my decision to get rid of my iphone and leave the ecosystem

What a pointless differentiation. The pro models have a feature none of you have a router for while the regular phone has wifi most of you have a router for. Very exciting.

This doesn’t make sense to me even from marketing.

I want to be there when you need medication or healthcare. LOL.

The attitude some of you people have is just sad. LOL

That's bizarre. Why would you want to be there?

If I need healthcare or medication I go to a doctor or pharmacy. Perhaps it's different on planet Ork?

Personal hotspot with late 2022/2023 apple devices that use Wifi6E. (2022 iPad Pro, 2023 MBPs, and Mac minis), more coming in 2023.

They could also just continue to sell the iPhone 14 along with the iPhone 15 „Pro“ but I get it, they want to keep the price of the Pro model high and therefore they need a „inbetween“ model (15), otherwise there would be much of a price gap between models

Well, Apple ist starting to fall behind in that price range. My current WiFi 6E devices are a Pixel 7 Pro (Google Tensor G2) which is obviously cheaper than an iPhone, a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 5G (Snapdragon 8 Gen1) and a Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 5G (i7-1260P).
Of those, only the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is capable to open a 6E hotspot itself.

Regarding using a 1-Gig internet connection at full bandwidth wirelessly, one needs 5 GHz WiFi 6 with 160 MHz channel width enabled.

This is Tim Cook’s Apple and it’s a far cry from Steve Jobs’ Apple.
Imagine if after iPhone 3GS, Steve had introduced an iPhone 4 pro with the Retina display and a “regular” iPhone with the same low res screen as in the 3GS. It would never have happened.
And today we’d just have an iPhone - maybe in 2-3 sizes - but all models would have the pro motion display with AOD and any new features such as Wi-Fi 6e, because they used to care about making the best product and not manipulative marketing tactics to edge customers to spend more money on a “pro” line.
You’re absolutely right.

Tim Cook is an incredible CEO. He’s done his job remarkably well in regards to satisfying the shareholders. However, it’s been at the expense of the consumer and, I’d argue, at the expense of Apple’s former values.

Seems that all those who are losing it and upset about WiFi 6E not being on all iPhones, and cannot go on living with WiFi 6 for the budget phone their willing to pay for, should simply find another phone manufacturer and find true happiness.

Sony, LG, Samsung, Sanyo, Huawei, etc will no doubt put a smile on your face.

I suspect no one will actually step up and actually do that, though.

While this is quite easy to predict, I’d still say it’s absolutely not certain.
It’s January still. The phones don’t even usually go into production until like May or June, and then release in September.
I highly doubt they’ve made every single decision just yet, and given that it just comes from an internal document that can change very quickly in the nine months we still have before the phone actually releases.
Same goes for pricing, I feel like I’ve been hearing that they’ll be an iPhone that starts at $1299 US for the last four years, and every time it still starts at $999 for the pros.
You do realize that Apple depend on components to build the iPhone? They can't just call Sony in May and say "we need 100 million camera modules for our iPhone 15".

In other words the iPhone 15 is signed off already, other companies are starting to get ready for mass production. The 16 is already close to being finalized as well.

Earth-shattering news, Unknownz21. It was definitely worth the risk burning your inside source to bring us this information.
Remember when there was exciting leaks? those were the days.

Apple just needs to sell one phone like to good old days.

Can we agree and stop calling it an iphone? Apple Phone is so much more elegant. iPhone?! lol - the 2000's called and they want their iphone back.

Curious what one would be doing on an iPhone that needs the speed afforded by WIFI 6E over WIFI 6? I have Gigabit internet at home with WIFI6 and my iPhone 13 PM can't even use all the bandwidth.

Bursts speed is important too. So although you likely aren’t sitting around on an iPhone downloading terabytes of data. Reducing the time it takes to download data is a win.

I doubt an iPhone will be able to fully saturate WiFi 6E. But progress is good.

I could always turn off 5G on my iPhone through phone settings. Always had to because theres was always somewhere including work where it would do nothing if 5G was on. Wish they would make it better at switching to LTE. Never even worked when I had 5G Auto on.

Man apple really must be struggling to come up with features for their "pro" if they are limiting the wifi chips in them. Good old apple. Nickel and dime ya to the death. Way to go Apple!🤡
