My 6S also went into recovery.

I really don't understand how this can happen. Surely they must do loads of internal testing beforehand?

The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update will need to do an iTunes restore, which will erase all data. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update for the time being until more information can be uncovered. A backup before installing is also recommended.

My 6s is in recovery mode I am doing an update with my phone attached to my computer like in the old times :)

Bricked my 12.9" iPad Pro and my iPhone 6 got stuck and had to be plugged into a computer to finish!

Incredibly lame....

So here I am at work, the one day I did not bring my laptop with my iTunes. Sitting with a phone that can't do anything. I have not backed up my phone since July... Though I dont think much of anything of importance will be lost that isn't on a cloud based server... However I do not have access to most of my funds, as I only bring one physical card with me for emergencies (thankfully I wasn't stupid enough to leave it home today) and I do not have access to my monthly transit pass to get home, as that is on my phone.

Lesson learned. Do not upgrade away from your PC.

Do I win anything if my iPhone didn't experience any of this?

Just curious - what iPhone are you using?

I'm on an iPhone 6+ with AT&T...

It seemed stuck with a full progress bar from having finished installing when I started this post. Then the screen changed to just black with the backlight still on. Tapped the home button just now. Suddenly there's another Apple on the screen and another progress bar... will update momentarily to say what happens...

And it's done. Going into Settings > Software Update says I have iOS 10.0.1. Kind of odd. What happened to iOS 10.0.0?

Put both my wife and my 6S+'s down as "bricks". Nice Apple, really nice.

trying to fix my 6s. Only problem is my imac refuses to install the update to iTunes. It will finish downloading the update in the app store. Start installing, then just stop and have the update button available again. Its just an endless loop of this.

128GB CDMA iPhone 6S and 256GB Cellular 9.7" iPad Pro both dropped into recovery mode. Tried OTA from iOS 9.3.5.
