In my mind, I'm picturing how absolutely infuriated Steve Jobs would've been if this leak had happened while he was at the helm. This keynote is important for Apple -- a new chapter, in some respects. Imagine if this much of the content of the 2007 keynote was leaked in the days leading up to that event.

Still trying to comprehend how intuitive it'll be to use ApplePay with FaceID. Right now I hold my phone onto the terminal with my thumb on the touchID. I just can't fathom any method that's more fluid or as intuitive. Am I now expected to hold the phone over the terminal and then back up to my face to authenticate and then back to the terminal to complete the transaction!? If so, then they just took a page out of the CurrentC method, the very one that died before it could even go live.
How hard can it be to **cking see this! It's obvious that the faceID will recognize your face quickly. The scan area will be very wide to grab asap. You won't have to move your ahead above the phone or put it in front of your face. Geez!! Why would they make it any harder than touchID, why would they?

They should at least take away the licenses and memberships of everyone involved in the leak. Set a precedent that if you leak the software out of our campus, we leak you out of your job. If you leak things out of our software, we leak you out of your developer membership.

Possibly even litigate. Because people today have absolutely no regard left when it comes to ethics in such matters. Just for likes and viewership/ readership.
oh geez. This won't ever happen. There are leaks EVERY SINGLE YEAR! The MAJORITY of the population has no idea about what is on forum sites. If you have a problem with it and everyone else in here complaining then stay off the internet and researching about new products. Done and done

Developer and public betas is where it all went wrong. Or maybe third-party apps. When the first iPhone was announced, all of the IP was contained in a relatively small group that Steve Jobs could control. If these leaks would make him absolutely infuriated, then it's probably a good thing he's not around any more. His life would be a living hell.

I really wasn’t taking anything personally, and my response doesn’t tell you anything about what I would do if I had a leak.

If you don’t have enough self control to stay away from spoilers this close to release when things are naturally going to start spilling out, that’s on you. Again, if you’re an active member of macRUMORS and visit daily, you’re one of the hungry masses feeding this leak machine. So don’t come here complaining and giving speeches about ethics and morality.
exactly! All these people complaining that they see leaks are secretly(yes secretly) here for that reason. That is why you come to a rumor site. Then you complain about it. I really don't understand this. If a psychology major can chime in here why humans do this to themselves please answer.
For the people complaining about the leaks why do you come to sites like this? Answer honestly...

Except that won't work either, most NFC terminals I've seen you have to place the phone on them in such a way that the phones screen and camera is mostly pointing straight up so the camera won't see your face. My guess is it will be put into ready state like pushing the button twice on an Apple Watch, it will then grab your face and then you have a few seconds to put it to the terminal, but of course if the cashier doesn't set up for contactless payments it's going to be even more of a pain than it already is when that happens now.

I might be totally wrong, let's all find out tomorrow folks, will it be stupid or won't it, place your bets now.

You don't have to fathom anything. Just wait two days and see it demonstrated. If Apple's FaceID implementation is too cumbersome for you, you can always get one of the other phones they announce. Or wait another year in hopes that Apple solves the technical problems with getting TouchID to work through the OLED display.

It wasn't an intentional leak. The GM was promoted to the developer download site and was seen by a few and downloaded, then released.

First HomePod OS and now this. How does someone at Apple who’s extremely proficient in what they do accidentally upload incomplete, or completed files for the public to see? I cannot imagine it’s as easy as typing an email and clicking the send button. This was deliberately uploaded by someone who works there.

With Touch ID, you didn't even have to look at the phone to unlock it, just not have French Fry grease on your hands. This gimmick you'll have to give a stare down to.

And if Timmy says otherwise in the keynote, boy will he be opening up Apple to litigation.

I'm glad all this was released ahead of time. I can beat the rush for an iPhone 7 now before the prices go up.

It about some info came out! A11 sound like a much improved SOC. Takes 1/3 less power and 50% faster then the A10!

I'm here to complain about the people who are complaining about the people who are complaining about the leaks. Get off my lawn! ;)

In all seriousness I can understand some of the people here who are appalled at what they see as violations of trust and ethics. If that's what's really going on, and these aren't "controlled leaks" it is upsetting for many reasons people already mentioned. On the flip side, I do enjoy a good rumor and prognostications. These days leaks get mixed in with all of that. It is what it is. I personally can't find it in me to invest any emotional capital in it but I respect that some people do. And I'm fine that some don't. I'm really here to be informed and entertained.

I'm going to set up some chips and salsa and enjoy the Keynote. It's got to be loads better than last year's, despite the leaks. Last year's was awkward and depressing and then Sia put on a performance that was :confused:...I don't even have words for that abysmal thing. And I like Sia. But I didn't like that. I've heard it was some sort of tribute to the people who died in the mass shooting at the nightclub last year. It is appropriate for that but was so out of place for a Keynote. Yeesh.

Despite all the natural disasters going on, which I respectfully acknowledge, I'm hoping for the Keynote to still be a celebration of 10 years of iPhones and the new SJ Theater.

I was wondering that too. Apple probably has an elegant method that we haven't thought of, but once we see it, we'll think "of course! It's so obvious!"

you are right there really is better things to stress about then a few leaks on some site 99% of the world don't know about.
Be happy you are alive and able to afford an iPhone.

.....The point, as you seem to miss along with lots of people here, is about integrity and ethics.

Something you might want to learn about and maybe develop some.....
Why so nasty to your fellow posters? He is entitled to his opinion, as you are. We can disagree about things without personal attacks, I hope. Let's not make MacRumors like some other sites that turn downright ugly on a regular basis.

It's a great release, I'm just waiting for the next "one more thing" moment.

Previous to Leakgate, I was expecting Tim's big reveal to be iPhone 8 & 8 plus. Everyone's liking what they see, but not blown away. Then, in a nod to SJ - in the theater bearing his name - Tim would utter those words... "But we have one more thing..." The crowd would go nuts and then Tim would debut the iPhone X as all nerd faces melt. #oops

That said, with this being the 1st keynote/product launch in the new SJ Theater, I would not be surprised if we weren't treated to some cinematic short film about the new campus (as envisioned by SJ), new devices and a new Apple - or something.

Pretty sure I'm coming down with a head cold. May have to stay home and recover on Tues.

I'm really gonna miss Touch ID if it goes. EG; At a drive-thru I can stick my arm out the window of my car and pay using Touch ID really quickly and easily. With this new facial recognition system it sounds like I'd have to get out of the car and look at the phone to make a payment. Hmmm..

This is one use case where FaceID will no doubt fail. What's next Apple, VoiceID?!

We'll see just how Schiller presents this use case or completely ignores it with spin.

I'm also going to be prepared for a huge belly laugh with Craig Fedireghi onstage with his famous 'hand-on hip porn-star gesture' makes me laugh every time cause he's the only presenter anywhere I've seen does that while standing up. He's smart funny and leads a talented team so I'm kidding here. I really would like to see each major feature that's leaked get proper introduction.

How are we meant to unlock the phone in the dark?? Surely Apple won't say "get out of bed and go turn the light on, unlock the phone...turn off the light and continue using the phone in bed"

Although this is the company that said we were holding a phone wrong because they put the antenna in a stupid place....

TouchID is actually a useful feature that they promoted heavily, now they want to get rid of it. How about keep it and get rid of all the bloat ware they keep including in iOS.

This whole FaceID implementation screams of the LCD industry not able to get TouchID on the screen with subdermal fingerprint detection on mass production. We heard in the news about this a few months back right on macrumors.

I hope not as I use the recording to cure my insomnia. :D

Likewise!!

I don’t understand these leaks. I thought the iOS team is a small group that works closely together? No doubt that the IT department can track down who did this. I also don’t get why machines they’re using for coding or compiling software have access to the internet.

Yeah! Apple's IT department is really gotta crack down!

Qi CHARGING!!!!

AFTER HOW MANY YEARS? And only now Apple adopts it? That is so disappointing. I'm hoping there is something hidden here, or else it's a HUGE THUMBS down for Apple innovation

Energous.... WattUp...

Over the weekend, the iOS 11 golden master software leaked out, revealing a wealth of details about Apple's unreleased devices just days ahead of their official unveiling.

New tidbits continue to come to light as developers dig through the software, and today we're hearing details on the new A11 processor in Apple's upcoming iPhone lineup, the Apple TV's resolution and 4K streaming requirements, and how Apple Pay will work with Face ID. There's also a confirmation that wireless charging is coming.

The iPhone X includes a new Face ID facial recognition system that replaces Touch ID. There have been some questions about how Apple Pay will work with the feature, and a new discovery from developer Jeffrey Grossman provides some clues. It seems the iPhone X will authenticate a payment using facial recognition, with payment confirmed using a double click on the side button (sleep/wake button) of the device.

There's also a reference to Face ID on both the iPhone and the iPad and iPod touch, suggesting Apple could potentially bring Face ID to future iPads and iPod touch models.

faceidipad-800x218.jpg

The A11 Fusion chip expected to be built into the iPhone X, the iPhone 8, and the iPhone 8 Plus is a 4+2 core device, according to developer Steve Troughton-Smith and Twitter user Longhorn. It appears two of the cores are higher-power cores and four of the cores are lower-power cores, though this is not entirely clear (earlier it was suggested there were four higher-power cores and two lower-power cores). Either way, the arrangement is similar to the A10 chip, which is a quad-core SoC with two high-performance cores and two energy efficient cores.

As discovered by developer Guilherme Rambo, there are references to wireless charging in the iPhone 11 GM, confirming a new wireless charging feature. The software doesn't include many details on how wireless charging will work, but rumors have suggested Apple will use inductive wireless charging, which is how the Apple Watch is charged.

ios11gmwirelesscharging.jpg

Apple's wireless charging is said to use the Qi standard, and it will be enabled through inductive charging accessories. Apple is planning to allow third-party manufacturers to create Qi-based charging accessories, but Made for iPhone certification may be required. Rumors suggest Apple devices will support 7.5 watts of power when charging inductively, and the wireless charging feature is expected to be included in all Apple iPhones coming this year.

Finally, developer Steve Troughton-Smith yesterday discovered the upcoming 4K Apple TV will render natively at 2160p and will support several color formats, including HDR10 and Dolby Vision. 4K streaming on the device will also require a minimum of a 15Mb/s connection.

Earlier leaks have confirmed Apple's naming plans (we'll see an OLED iPhone X, an iPhone 8, and an iPhone 8 Plus), revealed the Face ID setup process, given us a look at the split status bar on the iPhone X, hinted at new animated "Animoji" that will be based on user facial expression, confirmed an LTE Apple Watch, and more.

Update: The A11 section of this post was updated with new details -- it appears the A11 is a 6-core chip with two high power cores and four low power cores.

[doublepost=1505107071][/doublepost]Publishing a GM that you know to be stolen puts 9to5 right up there with Gawker....way to trash your reputation.

I seriously don’t understand all the confusion still? Is this the first leak many of you are reading? For Apple Pay, it’ll work similar to the Apple Watch. Authenticate as you double press for Apple Pay, and then put it on the terminal, simple as that. You don’t need to be authenticating as you’re making the purchase if you just did it a few seconds before. I don’t get how someone could honestly believe you’d have to double click put it to the terminal, authenticate, and then put it to the terminal again. This makes no logical sense and is no way what the article/code seem to be saying, it’s a nonissue. People complained when Touch ID was just a rumor and now nobody wants to let go of it.

On another note, the wireless charging power stated (7.5 W) is quite disappointing as the current wired charger provides 15 W of power, effectively double charging times for wireless

Hmm I can picture a new accessory car dock so you can turn it toward your face lol. Ashame it leads to this otherwise their would have to be a car mode to keep the device unlocked. Therefore, Apple carplay simply needs a software update to do so (too bad for those without Apple car play).

Why do you use your phone whilst driving!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure it's illegal in most counties to do so and for very good reason.

So is FaceID a X exclusive or on all? At the moment it seems to suggest the 8+ is going to be the one to go for, should have bigger battery, the 3GB RAM, probably better camera than the non+, TouchID (possibly FaceID as well) and the wireless charging.

Lol, I find it hilarious that you (and apparently 13 others?), all feel that FaceID could’ve been properly tested in the field on current iPhones & any kinks worked out.... if only Apple had left that code in the betas!!
Umm... wut?
Not sure you all fathom how literally anything works at all.

I find it more hilarious that, after explaining my point more clearly in other posts, you still manage to post a response that still misses my actual point. Well done tho.
