I'd imagine Apple Pay will be just like it is on the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch: authentication is already approved as you're wearing it and it required a passcode. Double tap side button -> Apple Pay. If transaction does not occur in 60 seconds, it cancels. It's seriously better than using it on the iPhone anyway!

iPhone X: 'Pre-authenticate' a few minutes minutes before the required transaction (probably configurable) with FaceID then simply double tap the side button to enable Apple Pay.

There will be no need to hold a finger on a TouchID button at the same time as approaching the NFC reader. If transaction doesn't occur within 60 seconds of enabling Apple Pay, it will probably reset and require re-authentication.

I think it's all going to be a non-issue... but it's funny watching people get their knickers in a twist.

I'll probably upgrade my 6s as this is a 'tock' year for me... with the added bonus of a 'tick' iPhone! :D

So, the plan is that we have to lift our phone up to our face before we can unlock it? That's going to be great in the car....

Err... I'd rather you focus on the driving. No need to unlock the phone while driving.

In fact, this could be great. We (and the police) will now be able to easily see who is using their phone while driving. Excellent.

As a driver, motorcyclist and cyclist I absolutely HATE people who touch their phones while driving. It's inexcusable.

Touching your phone while driving is legal and safe, looking at it is not. You hold down the home button to get SIRI to give you audible directions. Like changing gears on your bike, or turning on the windshield wipers...

I'm confused by your point here - Siri will still be accessible without needing to "look" at your phone.

Yeah, me too. The whole point of Siri is that you don't have to touch anything. When I drive, I don't touch the phone. Ever.

You clearly don't know how to use your iPhone... or you're just plain lying. And for your information, there are MANY jurisdictions where just TOUCHING your phone while driving is an offence - but nowhere is LOOKING at your phone an offence - I think you're a little confused...

Anyone think there seems to be a LOT of code and fuss for just implementing QI as a wireless standard? Me thinks they doth protest too much...

I really hope Apple is hiding something big no one has found the firmware.
Not the in-display TouchID for sure! They absolute failed on this one and probably just gave up the idea of it. Basically all these leaks about the FaceID is to ease out the tension and transition just so people won't be shock at all. Other than that most of the hardware updates are the most obvious one like faster processor, longer battery life, maybe better display like OLED and edge to edge, better camera. Well see in tomorrow, if I were you don't expect too much and if there's a surprise then good, and if nothing is interesting anymore then move on at least you won't get disappointed.

"It seems the iPhone X will authenticate a payment using facial recognition, with payment confirmed using a double click on the side button (sleep/wake button) of the device."

So 2 steps instead of 1 when using Apple Pay. Thanks Apple.

I don’t understand these leaks. I thought the iOS team is a small group that works closely together? No doubt that the IT department can track down who did this. I also don’t get why machines they’re using for coding or compiling software have access to the internet.

Firstly, I can tell you with certainty there is a whole State where looking at your phone is the offense, and touching it is not. i.e. no texting, or reading any information on your phone, maps included.

How are you activating Siri? I use the home button, which is a legit usage, and the most practical for my use.

How bizarre that you'd attack this usage as illegal. Touching a button you don't even have to look at, lol....

I hate these idiots who feel they have to leak every single damn thing. I hate myself even more for reading these articles because I feel like I’m not “in the know” if I don’t.

It’s like some guy going around blabbing to everyone what happens in a movie people are anticipating and spoiling it. Then when you go to see the movie you’re not as interested as you know what’s coming.

I know it’s my own fault as I’m not forced to read these articles, but it is really annoying and is all too much. I will be avoiding them in the future. Lesson learnt.
Eh, I'm 51 and have kids and pets to keep track of. I've got friends and family affected by the hurricanes to keep track of as well. I won't remember any of this stuff by the time the Keynote rolls around. If I miss out on my morning tea or coffee I won't even remember there's a Keynote until 15 minutes in. I think the only thing I'll remember for sure is that there will be a new kind of gold iPhone (still not completely sure what color bezel it will have) and that my resting b-face will crack the display in half and melt the sensors. Er, I mean unlock it. ;)

That's not what's happening... lol.

Siri can be activated using the home button, yes. And likely will be able to be activated using a button on the iPhone X.

Or, you could use the more effective method - "Hey, Siri". Either way, you're not going to have to lift or look at your phone. So again, not too sure what point you're trying to make lol.

I'm just saying, I'd like to be able to use the phone without putting it up to my face to authenticate it. Have you seen the Lego movie? Siri acts like that Computer scene sometimes...

It wasn't an intentional leak. The GM was promoted to the developer download site and was seen by a few and downloaded, then released.

btw, "Handsfree" is usually defined as not holding the phone while talking. Use of the headset is considered to be "Handsfree" mode, and you are allowed to touch your phone, but not to hold it or be looking at it instead of the road.

Qi CHARGING!!!!

AFTER HOW MANY YEARS? And only now Apple adopts it? That is so disappointing. I'm hoping there is something hidden here, or else it's a HUGE THUMBS down for Apple innovation

No! Not sure which century you’re living in but when was the last time there was a human cashier at the supermarket, subway or highway toll? There’s no waiting, you just touch in and out in one small gesture, no clicking or waving in front of your face, Bad, bad UX.
Wow, in London y'all don't have cashiers? Heck, we had self checkout at the local CVS, but during the last remodel they took them all out and now we are back to human cashiers again, ringing up the embarrassing stuff like zit cream. Self checkout in the US is usually such a cluster cluck. People here can't ever seem to work them properly and one attendant has to constantly run amongst all the self checkout registers undoing catastrophes anyway.

It should be no different than clicking the home button twice for Touch ID, presuming of course the facial recognition works on an angle, and instantly.
Before I used my watch for Apple Pay, I never had to double click my home button on my iPhone to pay using Apple Pay. It would come up by itself when next to a NFC machine.
