At this point Apple could hold an event to unveil the contents of Tim Cooks sock drawer and it would garner worldwide press attention.

I got bad news....the contents of Timmy's sock drawer has already been leaked:

You don’t have to hold your thumb on the button (or show your face) at precisely the moment you’re actually paying. I presume when you pay with cash or card you don’t stand motionless until the very second you have to pay, then act surprised about it. Take your phone out, activate Apple Pay and then pay when the cashier is ready. What is so hard about this?

No! Not sure which century you’re living in but when was the last time there was a human cashier at the supermarket, subway or highway toll? There’s no waiting, you just touch in and out in one small gesture, no clicking or waving in front of your face, Bad, bad UX.

This Face ID stuff is flipping dumb... touchID works beautifully and does not create enough of a demand for technological replacement. Other bezel free phones still have finger print scanners by putting them on their back. Apple could have easily done the same.

Not to mention, the face recognition stuff is almost a decade old now, the Nexus phones were doing that on Android 8 years ago. It died on that platform because it was stupid. Now Apple is trying it?

Unless there's something missing here, Apple is going to introduce literally zero new tech in this years release. From the LTE in their watch, which Samsung has done for years, to the FaceID which Android has done for years, to the bezel free phone cases, which the "Essential" Phone already provides (and yes, you can buy one right now), to even the wireless charging which the old Palm Pre used to do way back in what, 2010?

Sheesh Apple, I'm loving my Mac products these days, but this keynote looks like it could be very sad.

Again did you read? You have to double click the power button. Single click will lock it and double will do Apple Pay. What do you think will happen by mistake. Try double clicking the power button now.

Wrong. You can pay in supermarkets, in store and on the subway without having to look at t
Touch ID requires you to touch your finger to authenticate. Face ID doesn’t require you to do anything. If you’re using your phone, you’re authenticated. No action needed. How is Touch ID more convenient?

No clicking.

Why don't you give it a try at least? After all, we don't know the full details of every product (phone, watch, or TV). Maybe they'll surprise us all? :)

Oh I'll be watching, don't worry about that lol. The reason I said "could be" as opposed to "will be" boils down to possibilities.

Yet you frequent a website that by its very nature relies on these people to remain in business. I am sure it must be hard to contain your outrage at times.

Why stop there? Why not go after the websites that report information based on the leaks? Oh wait....

I concede defeat. Let's all just raid Apple for what it's worth and satisfy our never-ending thirst for more and 'right now'. Let all reporters raid every coveted company's privates to steal and report information out to the world because hey, sites like MacRumors exist, and the fact that they do, and that there are people on it, makes it all just so damn right!

This is no different from that that because my family was hungry, I went and stole food from my neighbor. So my plea becomes that if my family wasn't hungry, I wouldn't have stolen, so first let's blame tthe family and make it incapable of hunger before you come raise a finger on me. That's the stupid logic you are giving me here.

When what I am saying is this: had it really come to that desperation and destitution where people could not be responsible and not share details from the GM but report it to Apple instead?

I’m going to laugh if they ran one tiny thing this weekend and changed the build number just to piss off the early GM installers.

Again? Sorry, when you receive a reply on this board, you can't assume someone read all 100 posts after it.

Ok, I double clicked the power button... So?

Also, Apple Pay is usually initiated when the phone detects the NFC signal from the terminal. So I don't think double clicking the phone to confirm in that situation (very specific context) should cause any problems. Maybe Apple even tested this ;)

Exactly, I don't care if Face ID works better or not. There is still nothing truly innovative about this years iPhone.

What stores are you shipping st where you can’t find a human cashier?

Highway tolls were manned by humans until about six months ago here in MA as well...

Mark my words fellow macrumors readers. Wireless charging will be from energous and it will be wireless charging at a distance. HomePod has a special feature, it is a wireless charger. First to say it.

Objection noted. Moving on...

iPhone presentations are tedious as sin anyway. At best they're 15 seconds of oooh. What's more interesting are the hands on reviews a month or so later with the new phones (and attempts to bend them) ha

They should at least take away the licenses and memberships of everyone involved in the leak. Set a precedent that if you leak the software out of our campus, we leak you out of your job. If you leak things out of our software, we leak you out of your developer membership.

Possibly even litigate. Because people today have absolutely no regard left when it comes to ethics in such matters. Just for likes and viewership/ readership.
SJ would have sued. Surely it's in the t&c?

This is one of the more interesting leaks of all time, . Tuesday cant come soon enough, and I’m actually more hyped for it now ,knowing I have NO clue how the presentation will go down now. They were T-Boned.. there’s still details to lock down, and uncertainty, but this takes a ton of the wind out of their sails, considering all we knew was OLED and that chin (and FaceID/no touchID from homepods), pretty much, and vertical cameras, before this.

I’m also really pumped for the press table hands-ons. we need to see these devices properly in the wild, once and for all.

Imo it makes the iPhone 4 design leak seem like peanuts since Steve cracked a joke about it on stage “stop me if you’ve already seen this” and then continued to blow it out of the water, especially with the antenna reveal no one could guess. And the full reveal of Retina display and explanation for how game changing it was and continues to be, not just microscope reveals of the pixel count.

My initial impression, since there were ZERO details about the source of the leak, was that Apple published URLs by accident and someone savvy picked up on it. in that case I kinda thought it was funny that they would double down on secrecy and let something like this slip up days before.

I later found out there was no way the public could have stumbled on this one, it had to be someone handing out the URLs to 9to5 and MR, and that changes things

especially since I think the details were murky whether or not “iPhone 8” (internally D22 or what we now know as X) specific firmware leaked too for a while,

Knowing now that D22 firmware did, there’s zero chance the person who leaked it didn’t know how much would be in the contents of the firmware specific to the new hardware being released

If it was even all GM’s except the new hardware D22, I’d feel differently about it too for the hobbyists

But all the facts combined, I feel bad for Apple employees. Not really Tim Cook that much, tbh, he’ll live, but people that were excited to delight working on their personal project. Especially Animoji. It’s stupid and gimmicky, but also just a nice hook in of what AR can do, in the ever-growing-in-bloat form of communicating over Messages app. It’s one of the cooler unneeded things, imo. Especially since emoji has been an area of intense focus for Apple lol and mostly duds Between emoji expansion and the touch bar.

I also just wonder how this process ever happened period, even being “obscured URLs”— seemed short sighted on their part, and after this, i guarantee it will never happen again where they leave the door wide open

It seems a lot of people on reddit are pre-downloading the GM’s to beat the traffic chase on apple servers, and just do a restore on Tuesday or whenever it goes live.

I’m surprised apple didn’t take down the links supposedly, but stopped signing. Still maybe they see it as a “who cares” at this point, and for the same reason, to lighten their server loads slightly from some people pre planning
