And I am feeling bad for Apple as these people have no regards whatsoever - just for some likes they will rip apart anything to bring before the hungry masses.

Yeah, oh boo hoo Apple the biggest multi billion dollar company that supposedly "doubled down" on secrecy. I feel so bad for them. /s

You hate them now, but you're happy when they find a flaw in your favorite OS and report it.

I love leaks as in movie trailers but NOT the whole movie....

But you're living in a neighborhood of scavengers. Either start ripping, or move out of the neighborhood, but staying within the neighborhood, don't ever state honest opinions, and God forbid, start something about rightness and wrong. :)

Yes, I like trailers too, not the entire movie. But again, according to the kind of logic I have witnessed recently, I'd think that we should all be smacked with the entire movie and from what I gathered, it's also the popular choice. Why? Because we love movies! So we automatically must be smothered with them!

I'm just frustrated at all of the comments about "canceling the event" - these are rumors, not facts, and to me, the presentation is what makes the spectacle worth it. No demonstration comes with someone's random twitter posts.

Digging through a supposedly GM release is about as close to facts as you'll get until an official release is provided by Apple.

The sad thing is I could give two hoots about a bezel-less display, I’m perfectly fine with my bezel. If it’s now going to be screen, my thumb doesn’t even like reaching to the far side of the home button:confused:

I feel the usefulness of the one home button is greater to me than the space it takes up. I mean why not eliminate the entire top bezel and move all the sensors and camera to the bottom along with the home button.

I don’t know, this edge to edge is not a user feature for me, to me it’s kinda silly, just keep using the space for more battery.

And here we have a counter just for the sake of countering. There's no context or connection to what I was talking about and you're replying about.

Yeah, they would have to be playing some 3D chess if they released fake GM builds internally for testing/whatever, automatically assumed some rogue employee would game the system like has never been done before, just to keep people not knowing days before and an extra secret or two

Why yes, yes there is a connection since you're taking a dig at these developers.

If that's not a dig, I don't know what is.

OK, I get that the URL was passed along to Mac Rumors and 9to5Mac, but how did the iOS devs on Twitter (Steve Troughton-Smith and that Rambo dude) get ahold of it?

I'm either getting the X or the plus depending on base storage capacities and pricing. The X doesn't really seem to have any premium advantages over the plus (the size difference is nice, but not essential), and unless face recognition is even lower friction than Touch ID it seems like a detriment. With all of that considered and the likelihood of shortages for the X I'll likely get the plus and come back in 3 years to see what's new. This "radical redesign" year has been disappointing. There has been very little new since I got my 6 plus.

I really wasn’t taking anything personally, and my response doesn’t tell you anything about what I would do if I had a leak.

If you don’t have enough self control to stay away from spoilers this close to release when things are naturally going to start spilling out, that’s on you. Again, if you’re an active member of macRUMORS and visit daily, you’re one of the hungry masses feeding this leak machine. So don’t come here complaining and giving speeches about ethics and morality.

This has got nothing whatsoever to do with the 'hungry masses".
The point(which you seem to miss totally) is that Troughton Smith and co should show some restraint and instead of just caring only about a few clicks and headlines they should care about integrity. They it would seem only wanted their few minutes of fame and care not for anything such as integrity or respect.

Although people, including myself, come here to this website it does not mean we are the ones to blame. The person who leaked iOS 11 GM in the first place is to blame as is the people who delved into the code and revealed what they found.
They were not catering for the 'hungry masses' as you put it. The only thing in their mind's was "I think I am a somebody so I must be a somebody and in order to keep being a somebody I must tell everyone what I have found because I only care about me and stand for nothing apart from me"

-1. What a horrible thought.

These developers are aiding the journalists at MR and 9to5 to whom the material was delivered. They are not responsible for the leak, and lashing out at them as punishment for Apple losing control of their own product launch will not go down well with the community.

Apple’s role would go from being the innocent victims, to being the bullying scumbags who got what they deserved. So no; they shouldn’t do that.

No, these developers were not aiding the editors at Macrumours and 9 to 5 Mac. They were aiding themselves I think you'll find. They just wanted their 5 minutes of fame.
I am sure that the editors at Macrumors and 9 to 5 mac could delve into the code themselves. I also think they could show some restraint and decide not to spoil things for the rest of us, or at least have a separate section for what they find out. Give people like me plenty of warning that if you do not want to know what they found out then do not read.

This is one of the more interesting leaks of all time, . Tuesday cant come soon enough, and I’m actually more hyped for it now ,knowing I have NO clue how the presentation will go down now. They were T-Boned.. there’s still details to lock down, and uncertainty, but this takes a ton of the wind out of their sails, considering all we knew was OLED and that chin, pretty much, and vertical cameras, before this.

I’m also really pumped for the press table hands-ons. we need to see these devices properly in the wild, once and for all.

Imo it makes the iPhone 4 design leak seem like peanuts since Steve cracked a joke about it on stage “stop me if you’ve already seen this” and then continued to blow it out of the water, especially with the antenna reveal no one could guess. And the full reveal of Retina display and explanation for how game changing it was and continues to be, not just microscope reveals of the pixel count.

My initial impression, since there were ZERO details about the source of the leak, was that Apple published URLs by accident and someone savvy picked up on it. in that case I kinda thought it was funny that they would double down on secrecy and let something like this slip up days before.

I later found out there was no way the public could have stumbled on this one, it had to be someone handing out the URLs to 9to5 and MR, and that changes things

especially since I think the details were murky whether or not “iPhone 8” (internally D22 or what we now know as X) specific firmware leaked too..

Knowing that that did, there’s zero chance the person who leaked it didn’t know how much would be in the contents of the firmware specific to the new hardware being released

If it was even all GM’s except D22, I’d feel differently about it too.

But all the facts combined, I feel bad for Apple employees. Not really Tim Cook that much, tbh, he’ll live, but people that were excited to delight working on their personal project. Especially Animoji. It’s stupid and gimmicky, but also just a nice hook in of what AR can do, in the ever-growing-in-bloat form of communicating over Messages app.

I also just wonder how this process ever happened period, even being “obscured URLs”

It seems a lot of people on reddit are pre-downloading the GM’s to beat the traffic chase on apple servers, and just do a restore on Tuesday or whenever it goes live.

I’m surprised apple didn’t take down the links supposedly, but stopped signing. Still maybe they see it as a “who cares” at this point, and for the same reason, to lighten their server loads slightly from some people pre planning
All the leaks for this release really have me perplexed. 6 weeks ago, we had next to no idea what we were in store for. It was shaking up to be one of the most tight kept releases in recent Apple history, and seriously had the potential to have the next "one more thing" moment.

Then the HomePod Firmware leak comes along and overnight we go from knowing hardly anything, to confirming no more TouchID and understanding how big a deal FaceID is going to be. It was such a strange leak though. Never before had Apple accidentally released software early, and I would suspect they have that stuff really dialed in. But I chalked it up to a one off, and a HUGE blunder for Apple.

THEN, the weekend before the release, Apple accidentally releases the freaking GM iOS 11. Call me skeptical, but this is all too much. This release went from hardly any rumors (and many of the rumors we did have were conflicting) to the worst Apple leak in history (way worse than the iPhone 4 in my opinion). There is no way this was accidental. I heard a rumor that a disgruntled employee released the two, but it could be total BS. But if that's not the case, Apple would have had to do this intentionally.

My thoughts, although Apple preaches "double down on secrecy", they won't admit that they rely on leaks and rumors to drum up hype. This is the biggest iPhone release in years, and with very few leaks and conflicting rumors 6-7 weeks prior to release, I think they "leaked" the info themselves. Or at least I hope they did, because this is an enormous **** up if they didn't...

Nobody is leaking anything they have been trusted with and nobody has stolen anything. Not outside of Apples own staff anyway.

Erm yes they did leak something!

They (Troughton Smith and others) leaked information they had no right whosoever leaking.
They singed NDAs and if you read those NDAs I think you'll find that they are prohibited from leaking anything no matter what material it is in.

I mean an Apple employee working in an Apple store can not even tell a customer that their 'might' be a new iPad/iphone/whatever on the way in a week or so so hold off on the purchase.

So I think that developers are more covered in terms of what they can and can not say.
[doublepost=1505089213][/doublepost]
Kind of overkill don'tcha think? It's a leak about features in commodity electronics. It's not leaked vulnerabilities to the power grid. Perspective. Apple has an event next week, confirms what we know and the world keeps moving.

The point, as you seem to miss along with lots of people here, is about integrity and ethics.

Something you might want to learn about and maybe develop some.
[doublepost=1505089255][/doublepost]
Careful what you wish for. What happens if Apple are caught acting on a leak from a competitor, that acceptable is it?
Also even signing up for a site called MacRUMORS means you're fuelling the fire.

It is called MacRUMORS not MacFACTS!

Same old boring iOS, sure the iPhone 8 will be all new tech, catching up to the looks and bezel less display Android phones have had for a year already.

But at the end of the day, the fancy new phone wears off quickly, and you left with the OS you use day in day out 24/7, and iOS 11 is just like lame boring, locked down iOS 10, which was just like old iOS 9, which was like lame iOS 8, and the Fischer Price toy iOS 7 which started it all.

Who gives two ****s about the new design of the iPhone X, when it's running the terrible iOS still ? I'd be way more excited and pumped if the new phone was just the iPhone 8 Plus, but with a totally revamped major revision to iOS. That would be breaking news and truly jaw dropping. But right now, this X is basically a Galaxy S8 running iOS. Yawn :( Once the shiny new toy feeling wears off, it will feel just like the iPhone 7, and iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6, etc...Nothing new at all really here.

To be honest, I fail to see the big excitement for the iPhone X, What's the big deal here ? My point being the OS in it, is the same thing we've seen for years, nothing new here, just old iOS, nothing new. Sure the phone itself is better FINALLY, but that's it.

Every year I say "I hope Apple is hiding something big that hasn't been leaked yet, and every year I'm disappointed. I really hate to break it to you, but this is everything we're getting on Tuesday.
And for tens of millions of us this will be more than enough.

It may have already been covered... Or leaked... Or...

But surely there is some sort of "trigger" to engage Face ID.
There are plenty of times I look at my device without unlocking - to check Notifications, time, etc.
It'll be interesting to see how it all comes together.

It is possible Apple themselves released it, I guess anything’s possible, but man, that is leaving SO MANY details to be leaked in a slow trickle from dissecting the code like has been this weekend

I have way more doubt that thats the case, than its a disgruntled employee.

I mean, literally leaking the iPhone X specific firmware? That was the mother lode.

I agree with HOmePod thing. I think its a controlled leak to get people not surprised that there’s no home button/Touch ID but instead face ID.

I still don’t like the idea honestly/hvent let that one sink in, but thats a separate thread/subject,

It’s widely believed that rumors of 7/7+ omitting the headphone jack, which of course proved true, leaked EXTREMELY well in advance and were controlled to get the public comfy with the idea, and more or less, used to dealing with it
