I don’t think the new iPad Pro will come this year.
1. They’ve already released a new iPad this year
2. They’ve only released the 2nd gen iPad Pro, 2 years after the first iPad Pro.

Would make sense they only release in 2019 with iOS 13 with some new iPad featured.

If this is true I will still wait it out. My air handles 11.4 without a problem. If they optimize iOS 12 it may even run a little better.

The next iPad will be worth the wait for sure. But fingers crossed end of 2018 lol

Palm rejection, I would assume. Just like they do with the Apple Pencil. The tools are already there.
More like thumb rejection. There's also the problem that your hand will inevitably cover screen content on a bezel-less pad.

Exactly .... in the immortal words of Ian Malcolm: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should."

Why create a bezel-less design where you cover the screen with fingers/thumbs because you don't have a bezel. Just have a bezel.

They said the same thing about the iPhone. Much ado about nothing.

Except an iPhone is mostly used in portrait orientation and iPad usually in Landscape orientation. Also I'm not going to be editing photos on a phone for example.

Apple are so lax with iPad updates now that there's a real risk the iPad will be 2 generations of APU behind the iPhone. Why has it come to this? With pockets as deep as Apple's why can't they keep the iPad in line with the iPhone? It just looks amateurish and sloppy.

How would you even hold that thing??

Levitation?

Add-on dongle (sold separately)?

iGlove for iPad?

Agreed. I think we should start a massive petition to put notches on ALL 4 sides of the screen: brings back the visual symmetry, plus, if we love notches: 4 > 1.

Then, next year, maybe corner notches too: 8 > 4 or 1.

And shouldn't some third party roll out stick-on notches for older iDevices, Macs and maybe even TV-sized ones too? That would be a very desirable product to buy- make older, notch-less devices look "the future" new by simply sticking on notches. Probably cost about a nickel to make and us notch-lovers would probably easily pay $20-$50 to make the old seem "the future" new.

How do you properly hold a bezel-less iPad?

I know, right? The iPad is already a pain to hold, but bezel less?! And there's no need for a bezel less iPad anyway... No one cares if the display is 5 mm bigger or not, since it's already big enough.

The notch, the touchbar, the withdrawal of magsafe, the pen charge on ipad, the redesigned bad keyboard are serious evidence that Apple has lost its very special clean and innovative design identity and just trying to keep the good old reputation by sadly mimicking itself. Some people have started to leave the boat. More will follow.

Don’t mind the notch on my X. DO NOT want the notch on my iPad. Most of the time that I use my iPhone X in landscape it’s watching video and I can’t even see the notch. On the iPad I use it in landscape >80% of the time. No.

Other thoughts:

What's the point of making the screen estate bigger and bigger if iOS doesn't evolve to permit better space utilisation? The springboard grid is just wasteful and ancient, and so is the Notification Center. Most apps are not even optimised for use on the iPad, they're merely the same iPhone apps with extra jumbo padding.

Will it still have the smart connector? Why isn't Apple banking on more/better peripherals using its OWN bloody innovations?

Will the iPad ever evolve past the 2012 chamfered edges? My iPad Pro is already chipped as hell and it's barely half a year old.

Will FaceID accommodate different profiles too, or just different appearances of the same person? Will you have to hold it up every time you need to unlock?

Yup.... Didn't Jony say in an iPad video that the device inspires confidence in it's ruggedness and is designed to "be used" .... if you wear silk gloves and lay out a bubble-wrap mat beneath you. That chamfer scratches and dents when you just look at it funny.

Bezel? No bezel? Size contracts in? Screen expands out to fill bezel?

It's not exactly easy to hold at this time with a bezel. I'd like a bigger screen, but will it become cumbersome?

Those are my thoughts. The notch is completely unconcerning--COMPLETELY. I'm sure everything else about the next iPads will be marvelous and snappy and spiffy and incredible.

The existing iPad Pros are already quite snappy, spiffy, and incredible. To quote a reviewer from the Verge, "at this point Apple is just showing off".

What's holding the iPad behind is not the hardware or bezels. It's the dependency on a dumbed down phone-optimized iOS that's in direct contrast with the iPad's recent product placement as a viable computer replacement. Heck, even the "Smart" keyboard is lacking basic keyboard utility and Pencil support is still not fully implemented across the board.

I really don't care one way or the other about bezels.

But I'll be glad to see the home button and TouchID going away. After using my iPhone X for six months with FaceID and swiping instead of clicking for navigation, there's no going back.

There wont be any notch on an iPad, they're putting time on the left/right on iPad since it makes much more sense than having it in the middle. Plus, ipad has moooore than enough room on the bezels for cameras and stuff, iPhone X on the other hand doesnt - hence the notch,

I'm jelly... tho I don't think shifting the location of the clock over to create a common look is indicative of a notch. Given the size of an ipad and the way you interact with them, I'd rather they have a thin bezel around the edges that should fit it just fine... and there's also the other orientation to account for which I could see a group of people using exclusively.
