Where to start?! Easy ones would be:

1) You can have one icon anywhere you want on your home screens. Want only icons on the right side of the screen? Done. Any type of pattern is fine.

2) Add any widget to your screen. Want a big digital or analog timer on your home screen? Done!

3) Control center on iOS looks like a mess. There are all these little buttons with different sizes and all rounded. Looks like someone spilled some change on a table. Android has these same buttons located in their notification panel as quick actions. So much cleaner and doesn't take up the entire screen.

4) Always on Display is awesome. Always see the time, notification icons, and hell, a photo or icon if you want.

5) Notifications - Take up less room, condensed, and you can easily snooze them from the notification panel. I think iOS12 is now using some of these features tho like grouped notifications. Always late to the game.

I won't even get into what you can do when you go into developer mode. Then you can really go crazy with the status bar, customizing buttons (click, double click, hold, double click hold) and actions. That's without rooting the phone.
Developer options the first thing I unleash on all my droids. Lower some setting makes the phone so fast even an iPhone can't keep up

Did a clean install from GM to final release and it feels a lot smoother on my X. Could be placebo, but whatever.

Most people aren't aware until they get that red badge notification, after a week. Pretty much the only people updating are 'techies.'

Wrong. My GF couldn't be further from a 'techie' if she wanted to. She updated when prompted, and it "feels like a new phone."

Yesss!!! I had so many issues with safari and Touch ID on iOS11. I’ve lost count on how many times I had to reset my iPhone 7 on that clusteref. Installed iOS 12 and I haven’t had a hiccup yet. Happy customer here.

Yeah, right. Like you really even have a choice not to upgrade since some of your apps will be gimped if you don't from day one.

I usually don’t update for a few months but son had no issues and was happy to get off 11. So far no issues. Not much new except screentime and I don’t like how I have to get to control center on iPad.

iOS 12 is the Snow Leopard of iOS. It is the best release since iOS 6.1.6. The most stable, the most feature packed and definitely the most refined. My 7 Plus feels just like it did on 10.3.3 if not better in some respects. The battery life is worse but my phone currently has about 84% capacity so it's due for a replacement.

It has brought my iPad Air 1 from the brink of the gadget graveyard. On 10.3.3 it was still pretty fast but 11.0 slowed everything down to a crawl. 11.4.1 improved things somewhat but iOS 12.0 has returned it to almost where it used to be. Booting is faster and everything is smooth. Apps take much longer to install but the A7 is much slower than A10-12. It's just a dual core chip with a sub 2 GHz clock speed. It's remarkable that it's still usable 5 years later which is more than can be said of most Android devices and even older iOS ones.

Yeah, right. Like you really even have a choice not to upgrade since some of your apps will be gimped if you don't from day one.

It takes a few months before anyone does anything exciting with a new release. Everyone's too busy with bugs and features, and very few will do anything new for release day except for the chosen few.

I can't install the thing yet because I use my stuff for development, and we're having Xcode 10 issues with some pods. How annoying.

You say that like it is important or that most people care. No one cares about OS updates. Anyone that switches from android to iOS isnt because of faster software updates ( https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ople-switch-mobile-operating-systems.2133749/ )

Everyone that is into tech cares about OS updates for sure. Of course there are lots of people who never update their devices often because they aren't even aware of OS updates and might not even really know what the OS really is.

I suspect that many Android users will be jumping ship really soon since the XS and especially XS Max are clearly the most prestigious phones money can buy. At $1500 the 512 GB version is a true luxury product and that has appeal to many people. I know it's shallow but the higher the price, the more that people will desire something.

I updated on my i6 since I have nothing to lose. So far I do not notice any improvement on performance and the battery but it seems those who have the i6S and more recent ones saw improvements on theirs. The only thing I noticed was my Bluetooth icon no longer appears when I turned it on.
Yup thought it was me, think they removed it because it was not necessary to show since Bluetooth is always on now

I miss iOS 10. It was def my favorite. I loved the old control center which actually turned off bluetooth and wifi and i actually liked the circle dot signals vs the bars. I have an old iPhone that still is on iOS 10. It really sucks that once you update you can't go back .

So were tracking on how fast Apple can force updates? Or should I say slyly forcing updates? Lol

Give it time... give it time.. give it atleast next week! I have 10 iPhones pending in my family will be done this weekend. I already updated 4, and told 2 others .. it’ll get there.

I updated my X as soon as it was available Monday morning. I’ve had zero issues so far. It’s definitely a strong improvement over iOS 11.

I’ve installed it on my iPhone SE and 2018 iPad, and so far, quite pleased with it.

A few things about the iPad implementation I don’t like:

  • The split top bar on the screen. Yes, I know FaceID is coming to iPads, and they need to make room for the Notch™, but time and date in the top left, and WiFi on the right is totally inconsistent with my phone, and it’s annoying. Time in the middle, and date on the right for non-notched devices, please! Or stack everything on the right like on macOS.
  • The swipe-up-from-the-bottom gesture used to bring up the dock, and then Control Center. Now it’ll bring up the app switcher, but you practically have to swipe from the bottom all the way to the top. Even then, it doesn’t seem to work consistently. Similarly, four-finger-swipexup to invoke the app switcher also doesn’t work consistently.
  • Control Center in the top right is kind of annoying, but I can se the logic in it with the WiFi there now. I’ll get used to it.
  • Photos now being an “app” in Messages, instead of right next to the camera is frustrating. It now takes more taps to send a photo to someone, if you’re not taking it from within Messages.

No matter what Google does, they'll never match Apple when it comes to this. I don't know why they can't strong-arm OEM's. I mean Microsoft never let OEM's decide when Windows Updates are applied.
You needed to know how Android works before making such observations.

The new iPads won’t have a notch
