I read this last night and rolled my eyes. “Plagued”? Cmon. It’s mildly annoying but that’s it. And it’s a beta, people!

12 hours later, I’ve changed my mind. Plagued indeed.

thank me later guys :)

“Get the real updates”? The Android community sure doesn’t:

Great day for Apple
Terrible of them to release beta software that has bugs. How dare they?

Let's not say that it's just what you should expect on a beta. Developers don't have an option about whether or not they use a beta-- they have to test their apps. And if a pop-up you have to manually dismiss appears every time you unlock the phone, it will interfere with testing things like receiving push notifications and opening your app.

This can cause all sorts of problems; it's better to deal with the bug until it's fixed than to mess with the system clock.

Yeah, I have reminders and calendar events scheduled and I’m not interested in messing with the date and time of my iPad. The popup usually only comes up after unlocking the device, and I can handle a minor annoyance until they release a fix in a few days.

Besides this bug, iOS 12 has been running very well for me so far.

I'm starting to get used to the alert. I may end up missing it when it's gone.

Submitted feedback to apple via the Feedback app. Mildly annoying, but I'm sure it'll get fixed soon.

iPhone and iPad users who have installed the current iOS 12 beta are being plagued with a continual popup that suggests a new iOS update is available when it's not.

Affected users are seeing the following message: "A new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 12 beta." The problem is users receiving this message are running the most recent version of iOS and there is no additional software to update to.

Beta testers have been seeing this popup since the latest beta was released on August 27, but over the course of the last day, the popups have become much more frequent.

Many users are now seeing the popup every time an iPhone or iPad running the beta is unlocked or Notification Center is dismissed, and it is a popup that must be manually dismissed each and every time before an iOS device can be accessed.

Developer Guilherme Rambo has suggested that an error in the latest update causes the iOS beta to think that its expiration date is imminent, leading to the popup problem.

Complaints on Twitter and the MacRumors forums are picking up from users who are frustrated with having to continually dismiss the popup, and it's not clear when a fix will be available.

funny, i thought I'm the only one. Got this issue yesterday and since then it annoys me. Just restarted my phone in hope to fix it, when I saw this news.

If your annoyed by this, you shouldn’t be running the beta.
What a stupid comment. This is close to the final version an an embarrassing mistake considering the public beta is officially available.

Of course bugs are to be expected from a beta but this is a little bit to annoying and a little bit to close to final release.

While Apple is probably happy to have apologists like you ready to fend off any kind of criticism because of the „beta“ label but you should also consider that it has long been common practice at Apple to label many things (even advertised features) as beta (Portrait mode, battery stats etc.)

How could this rookie mistake slip through QA so easily?

Because it's a beta? Because part of testing a beta is making sure people are on the latest and warning them it's about to expire? Because part of testing a beta is testing the update?

There are a lot of reasons for something like this, few of which are rookie mistakes.

This is a beta. If you play, you take your chances. This is the least significant side effect I can imagine.

It's not just iOS12 - my iPad pro with 11.4.1 (15G5077a) gets the same message, but replace 12 with 11.

I run the 12 beta on my phone, but 11 on my iPad.

"we definitely don't usually point out bugs in betas": Really??
What's the whole purpose of running Beta?? To find bugs and report them. You know, through that new shiny icon with description "Feedback". If you just want to run Beta versions to have all the new features to show of then you've got to deal with things like this and expect the unexpected. Otherwise, steer clear of Beta versions

Juli (jclo)is talking about MacRumors (did you see the label under the name where it says "Staff Member"? The person who posted it on MacRumors' page) - MacRumors doesn't usually point out bugs in betas is what the post is talking about.

Hopefully ALL the people complaining have also done a bug report though - if everyone assumes someone else will do it, no one will. Or not enough to get noticed. [Much of the time I am not sure if Apple uses all of its own software vigorously - Photos and iTunes syncing of large libraries in particular since it has been broken for a year.]
