iOS 15 is the iOS Vista. It's wildly buggy (CarPlay has been crashing on me, just as described here) and it's also full of garbage, such as the awful new Safari tabs and convoluted interface. I'm usually quite positive on Apple, but this is a seriously awful release that has made my devices worse.

It seems like Apple’s systems lifecycle consists of shipping the OS regardless of quality, and then playing wack-a-mole with any bugs that come up after release.

Apple should offer a CarPlay "mode" directly on the iPhone. Would be very helpful for those times when connection is an issue (wired or wireless), when the built-in stereo system does not support, or when an entertainment system isn't even available (like on a bike). Mount phone horizontal and launch. Should be simple.

Also

@Rob198612 & @dalstarz25 - if you go clear all your calls in recents, it takes the problem away. This has happened in the past too; has something to do with if you call someone who is in your recents that was called with your old phone it pops up the error. So, once it's cleared, it doesn't pull up that data anymore. Bizarre issue, but that's how you fix it.

Thank you! I appreciate the help :D

So Apple secretly changed the name to Car NO-Play? Or maybe the users are holding their new expensive iPhone wrong...

is it me or do the last couple of releases 13--15 seem to have a quality decline? We get told by Apple the "lack of major new features" is due to quality and stability improvements behind the scenes, yet lately sure doesn't feel like that.
Don't forget all of this has, for the most part, been done remotely.

They should def do away with yearly releases, just make 1 version and keep updating it, no need for a major release every year.

Make a new major release when the time is right when the software is polished enough.

Just call it iOS / iPad OS and so o, I do not need to know what .x release it is as long as it works.

iOS 15 could very well be iOS 14.9.9.9.9.9.9 I do not need to see the number 15 to feel the advancement.

I wish they had a certification process, I have no way of knowing if it's just a buggy implementation by Honda or if the issue is in IOS. I had problems with my old iphone 8 and still have problems (maybe more?) with my iphone 13.

I think they put pressure on themselves by tying the new device releases to a new OS release.
Well, iOS 16 is probably pre-alpha right now, with firmware and drivers being written for hardware used by the iPhone 14, so Apple probably doesn’t want to back port all of the drivers just so their newest phone can run the ”old” OS.

I'm really curious what the culprit ends up being - I'm on a 13 Pro and rely on wireless Carplay every time I get in the car, and have not had any issues at all so far. Has to be some kind of oddball setting that might not even seem related.

It seems to be linked to customized EQ settings. If you haven’t customized EQ you shouldn’t/won’t have this issue.
