13ProMax

Went ahead and bit the bullet and did a full reset and restore.
So far it appears to be working well.

Better than the original OTA update but still not what I expected. Seriously slower for the same aps compared to my 1+.
At this point I’ll just wait for the next beta (in a couple of weeks?). It is working decently for the most part.

Limit IP Address Tracking and Private Relay are both off.
Left all widgets off except for lockscreen.
Sorry you’re having issues. I had to update to the beta as my Watch updated to the beta overnight and I didn’t wanna have compatibility issues. Other than the Now Playing widget staying on after the playback I’ve had zero issues on my 13P with OTA.
Hopefully it stays that way.

Not sure why but my iPhone 12 is asking to confirm passcode about once a day. Usually it asked to confirm it only after iOS update.
I’m on public beta.

This is the type of small bug I would expect from a beta 1. Apple have probably fixed something else that has had a knock-on effect. As they work through the beta process, things like this will be fixed.

We'll likely have a few more things like this before the update is ready for everyday use by the general public. Get those bug reports in to Apple for this to be fixed.

Having random Wi-Fi issues. IP14PM. Randomly no data connection even though phone is showing full Wi-Fi signal. Reset network settings and had updated via IPSW but no difference. Turn off Wi-Fi and then back on via Control Center fixes it for a time. Then later in the day rinse and repeat.

You cant beat a trusty old router restart also. 👍🏼

I have this too on my 12 pro max.
The backup bug is still here, since 16.0 betas. if you backup locally to Mac or Windows, it will prompt you for a passcode about 60s after you plug it in or place it on a charging pad. This may be what you’re seeing, as I get it every day since 16.0 betas.

I call it a bug, because in 15.x and before, it would ask you once, the first time you plugged in to Trust This Computer. Now, it’s on a 50 first dates mode, where it can’t remember that you said ok and entered your passcode, it just asks over and over, every time.

The fact that it waits for sync to start and then backup to go before it asks for the passcode, means people are likely missing this, which will lead to backups being missed and eventually data loss.

Genuine question. Can the watch update without intervention? And does it not use the iDevice as its means to update? Always thought the iPhone needed to be on a certain version 1st before the watch could be updated. Especially with betas.

13 ProMax (512GB)

Did a complete reset and reload from scratch - Pear Maneuver Extreme Style.
PITA. Includes MDM from work.

So far the same bugs as the 16.2 betas.
Once thing that was noticeable: when I left the Lockscreen and Home Screen widgets off, the phone is faster.
Went back to the Today screen only.

1. No wifi or 5G/LTE issues I have noted.

1. Still seeing infrequently stutters in YouTube (HQ) and some games.
2. Issues with AirPods Pro - doesn’t switch back and forth like it is supposed to.
3. Proton Mail and Mail slow to update at launch
4. Significant lens flare on camera if using AF
5. Groups in Contacts messed up. Took a bit to fix.

1. Siri still sucks
2. Spell check is a real pita
3. Battery is tbd

Hopefully the craziest is behind.

I thought so too. Forgot to restart the watch after deleting the profile and it updated to the beta while on the charger overnight. Maybe it doesn’t apply to .x releases? Or they changed it with the recent iOS versions.
But if it’s not intended behavior then it’s a serious oversight.

Day 3

Battery is really great,16.2. sucked big time,on this beta i got 11h of screen on time(100%-14%)
On 16.2 I used to get 8-9h SOT.

Small but persistent bug is weather widget on home screen,it used to work without location services constantly running.
Now it only works if I turn on wifi/data.
Annoying but what can you do.

Safari sometimes opens a page slower then before.

Other than these small bugs everything else is running smooth and fast.

Sorry, maybe a dumb question but I’ve seen this “Pear Maneuver” mentioned a few times around here but I can’t find any information on what this actually is. Could you explain it for me please? Thanks!

It is a tongue in cheek term we started floating around as our fellow member @Pearsey is a serious advocate of using the ipsw to update or refresh instead of OTA as a way to keep issues (bugs) to a minimum.

I only backup over the air. I never had this problem until 16.3. I expect that they will fix it in the first days of the new year.

I’m a little behind so if this has been mentioned you can grill me but I’m seeing this for the first time. I have notifications off on my iPad so it was cool to see I had something waiting. This is the contacts widget.

Sorry it’s no more exciting than that.

But yeah a few of us have found that a reinstall of the iOS using the IPSW file when things play up, over heating, battery drain, Wi-Fi connectivity etc etc… seems to give the phone a fresh performance and bugs go away and things clear up. If they don’t get reporting.

Might I add off loading and reinstalling apps works just as nicely when you have a rouge app misbehaving.

Have found through iOS 15 and 16 to have suffered less bugs using this process. So even though a big fan of OTA, I’ve ditched it. Cut out the middle man so to speak. But that paragraph is totally debatable and just my personal experience from beta testing just the last couple of years.

Answer him then, don’t leave Derek hanging 😆😂

P.s how is the new iPad? 😍

Welp I did the usually KB Shuffle and returned it for an Air. Figured if I’m spending the money I might as well get something with the better screen tech and processor.

I got the darker gray color, which I prefer, AND ended up walking out with a new Ultra. 😳

Needless to say it warms my heart to see the ecosystem expand, especially considering it’s the holiday season and I’d never expect to receive anything Apple as a gift. The iPad and the Watch are both massive upgrades, coming from an iPad 5 and a Series 6.

Better get a snow peaked hike in there or go snorkelling to make the most of it 😆😂

can anyone confirm if the squared notifications bug (when swiping to go to notification center) is finally fixed in this beta? very annoying to see this visual glitch even in 16.2
