Is this on a video or photo?
in video and photo it does. I think it will be a move towards the iPhone 14 and its increased resolution, where this makes a little more sense. but in this generation avoid using the telephoto camera in almost all situations you only get some photos that are almost the same as my old galaxy a50 with so much watercolor effect instead of textures.

It’s not uncommon that the last beta becomes the release candidate. The only change is that the logging and other stuff.
Agreed. I'm no stranger to these things. :)

Something generally changes between builds, otherwise, why push a new release? I'm trying to understand what the other poster is thinking.

I was just being bored and looking though all different settings on my phone and saw this for the first time. It was turned off. Is this new?

The function is not new.
For the Carrier Call Identification I cannot say - I have Hiya 1-3 active in mine.

Yep, that is recent. Someone pointed it out on the Verizon Reddit a few days ago and I was sort of busy at the time, completely forgot to post about it here. But the OP on Reddit had it on his phone running 16 beta and his wife’s on 15 did not. A few other people chimed in that they had it on 16 beta, where other devices of theirs/their families on 15 and below did not. I checked when I saw the thread and sure enough I had it also. It was off by default for me, so I turned it on. I generally don’t get a whole lot of calls, so I’m not sure what it does beyond the little blurb beneath the setting.

No you should not lose anything that ordinarily backs up, in-app, to the cloud. If you normally back up photos they’ll still be there. But you might lose any health data that has been recorded since you went on the beta. It’s not as bad as it used to be if you don’t back up first but still it’s a best practice.
I don't back up my photos to icloud. I back up direct to photos on my Mac.

If I revert back to ios 15 will I lose the pictures on the phone I took just before I updated to ios 16 on the phone itself

Notifications and groupings: they're no longer always grouping together. I've tried both automatic and by app but they don't always group. Some do. Some don't.

I don’t think so as long as they have been backed up to your Mac already. I don’t back up my photos this way, so perhaps someone who does can weigh in.

In iOS 16, do Guides in Maps automatically sort by the default preset when you open them, or do you have to select a different preset and then re-select the default?

Example: I have a favorite restaurants guide with the default sort present set to distance. When I open the guide, distance is selected, but the locations are not sorted by distance. I have to select sort by name or date added, then distance again.

Verizon only item?

I first came across it on the Verizon subreddit and have it on my phone (currently on Verizon), but @jpsmith76 screenshot above mentions T-Mobile, while @dwfaust says he’s not seeing it on AT&T. So it seems like it might be carrier dependent.

This thread is the first I’ve seen it mentioned on T-Mobile. So maybe some more folks can chime in on whether they see it or not and which carrier they have…

If I turn Hiya off (I have AT&T) I do not see it.

Thx

I see it on MVNO for Verizon. Maybe AT&T is slow with the implementation but should be available in the next few weeks with the public release.

iPad Pro 16.1 battery may be even better but no real change that I can swear to. Different device I know but still nice to know I don’t have such problems on what is arguably the first beta released for the iPads.

Yikes. RAM management is trash in this beta. My safari pages keep reloading every time I open the app.

I just downloaded and installed the iOS 16 Public Beta 5. I was scrolling through my Discover feed on the Google search engine app. I just noticed that there would be VERY OCCASIONAL lagging and/or unresponsiveness. I have reported this in the Feedback app. Phenomenal public beta in all. All of the cool new features (mainly the new lock screen 🤭) definitely make up for this very miniature problem. This is my first time being part of the iOS Public Beta Program, and I am DEFINITELY coming back next year :)
