InB4 macrumors has to make a post about complaints about battery drain and bugs, which will shortly thereafter be addressed by apple in a “software update coming soon” by releasing this RC build.

The merged code with iPhone 14 totally ruined the iOS 16 experience for me.

What??

Thats the problem, we need a new build of iTunes in order to do anything with the same build of iOS 16! If not now then when?
Yup, it is unfortunate for Window users. Are you on iTunes 12.12.4.1? I recommend not use the build from Microsoft Store and directly from Apple https://www.apple.com/itunes/. There is a 32 or 64 bit version below it the text "Windows System Requirements"

Gentle reminder: if the released version is the same build number as the RC (as it appears to be), those of you who are on the RC will not see anything, regardless of whether you have the beta profile installed or not. This is for a good reason: you've effectively already been on the released version for 5 days and there's nothing to add.

Trying to update from 15.6.1 and Finder keeps saying no update is available.

This RC build has been worse than even Beta 1. Battery and general software bugs.

People on here are saying to ‘fresh install’, but once the general public experiences this it’s going to be an apple witch-hunt for prematurely releasing software that’s messing with their phones.

I suspect they merged iPhone 14 code for dynamic island into the beta code and it introduced a bunch of bugs we weren’t seeing in the previous versions of the beta.

What are you going to do with the same build? It's the same.
iTunes will not be able to restore or install iOS 16 until it’s updated - there’s been discussion on this for like 3 pages already. iOS 16 is here now and if I didn’t already install the RC and didn’t want to install OTA, I would have no way to install the update. If I’m already on iOS 16 (which I am) now I have no way to manage my device.

Yep, that’s the build I’m on and I installed the 64 bit version directly from Apple. We really need a new update, if not today then before Friday or I’m not going to be able to even set up the new phone.

If that's the hill you want to die on, be my guest.

With no offense to my right honorable friend, the Pear, the benefits of a file install vs an OTA are vastly oversold. Bits are bits regardless of how delivered.

Apple segments availability of software updates, so it doesn't overload their CDN (content distribution network). If all iDevices downloaded their update at the same time, the download speeds would be horrendous (and likely time out).

The reason some devices are only seeing 15.7 and not 16 is likely as their device hasn't "won" their opportunity to update to 16.0 yet. Give it time, both updates should be visible by the end of the day. (though people usually aren't so patient as to wait)

Works great for me.

Even if there was no difference, we should have the ability to choose which method we want to use.
There are still other device management functions that iTunes is still necessary for. How will I migrate my backup to my new phone on Friday if iTunes can’t recognize the new phone and doesn’t even know what to do with a backup of iOS 16?
I suppose you’ll tell me to use iCloud next

Why should you get the ability to choose which method you use? Do you get to do that from other places that sell you things? "I really like this thing on Amazon, but they should let me buy it from Ebay. And if they won't, I won't buy it".
