I'm so mad. I didn't realize I had my Apple TV 4K on Auto-Update. It just updated and I'm fuming.

I have over 800 PURCHASED movies on iTunes, so I have a big dog in this fight. And I have to say, this new update is horrible. The biggest gripe I actually have, to pile on to what everybody else has said, is the lazy and generic new UI. I perused the iTunes Movie store every week to see what discounts and promos they offered (for example, $4.99 movies to own). Now everything is unclear and kind of mashed together. And what's with the lack of a dedicated page for each movie? That's what pissed me off the most! As the "owner" of 800 movies, I enjoyed going through my collection like it was a virtual library and being able to click on a movie and see all the important info at a glance: Cast, Director, year, length, reviews, etc etc.

Now it's just... gone. You must click within the scrubber to bring up a condensed version that lacks so much info.

Apple, you keep doing **** like this and you're gonna lose me. And I've been a loyal customer for years. Enough is enough, respect your customers!

I just noticed this "improvement" last night. My go to access my movie library was of course the iTunes Movies app, as it has my wishlist and it show the movie's landing page with reviews, ratings, synopsis etc before I play it. Useful for me as I have a large library.

Now that's all gone. The TV app by comparison is garbage. No movie info, the nice one sheet style movie art replaced by widescreen versions which usually look like the movie studio phoned them in, and my wishlist erased.

Genius stuff Apple, real smart.

Nope.

If people have a problem, they complain (and rightly so).

If they don’t have a problem then they’re not going to jump on a forum to say everything’s hunky-dory.

And Tim Cook isn’t writing the code, and he’s not a designer. That’s why he delegates those decisions to the “experts”.

I mean, seems like excuse making to me. I’ve spent years here. There’s no lack of positive feedback when Apple does something the community likes. The complete absence of any positive feedback whatsoever is significant. In fact, I notice that YOU didn’t have anything positive to say about Apple TV changes either…

I have no interest in Apple TV+. Let me disable it and go back to the old Videos app. They don’t even have to do much work since the Videos app shows up in regions without Apple TV+.

I kinda liked the original Apple TV app. In my region it misses integration with many third party content providers. And we never got iTunes TV Shows. But otherwise, I understood what they were aiming at: one hub for all your content, regardless of the source.

But now…. It tries to be everything (like iTunes) but fails to do anything right. Very messy layout, confusing features, weird sidebar, … I think Netflix is very happy they never integrated with this mess.

The toxicity of some people is overwhelming. Notwithstanding, Apple do better than they do bad. No?

Stop complaining! Everything Apple does is "magical", lol. This is a company that will spend 5 million on an insane, climate/social justice cringe fest video for the new iPhone, but won't dedicate 5 bucks to reviewing the removal of legacy software features. Apple stopped innovating long ago.

Cooke Has to go. And I don’t give a toss about shareholders. That’s not and should not be my concern. It is the duty of a CEO to not only protect them but also the customers. He no longer, if ever, cares about the users. Every day it seems like a new bug or breakage of service occurs in the Apple ecosystem. But rather than fix these issues we get useless upgrades or changes that do nothing to add to our enjoyment or productivity. There was a day when my Apples worked almost perfectly and an issue or bug was a rare occasion. Now I personally have issues with almost every product and or system. The customer service is so bad that half the time I end up schooling them on how it should work. They constantly change programs or apps just for the sake of it without any concern that the user has spent years working in this environment. The saddest part is that Apple still make the best tech products but their need to increase shareholder value results in so much frustration and angst that the overall experience is now quite negative. Tim and many others must go before we see this company crumble. It surely can’t survive by selling a new (sic) phone to the sheep every year. Sorry for the rant!

Apple Tied with Samsung as highest approval rating. Apple didn’t drop down in the past 20 years, Samsung just caught up.

I was able to find mine in what's left of the Store app... but they are pushing so hard to discourage ownership by lumping together everything in the Apple TV app. I want to buy a show, not stream it, and Apple used to be a decent option for that. Time to go back to DVDs and Blu-Ray.
You realize you don’t own the shows and movies you buy. Check out what Sony just did with the shows people thought they brought on Playstation. If the content you purchase has anti-piracy, then the real owner can cancel your viewing ability.

Don’t know about anyone else but Up Next on top self has stopped working for me.

Wow, this is really bad news. I’m glad I haven’t updated iOS yet. I use the movies wish list literally every day. Guess I’m gonna have to move it over to some other list (a list that doesn’t show current prices, which is gonna be dumb). This is likely going to decrease my amount of movie purchases, because I won’t be daily checking prices anymore. Apple’s loss, I guess…

Have you tried the JustWatch app? It shows the services your favorite movies or TV shows are available on and the price they are available for, both streaming and purchasing

Go back to DVDs & Blu Ray, learn to rip your own (you get to choose the quality, not a corp stranger) and render so you can enjoy your own media in the AppleTV Computers app- a tremendous utility for consumers of owned media collections without the endless marketing to buy/rent/subscribe to more. IMO: it's the far better app for media consumption. I just about NEVER open AppleTV app but use Computers app almost every day.

The used video disc market will generally beat the prices of the new digital video market... and rolling your own won't put you at the mercy of Studios suddenly deleting a movie or show. You'll also have a built-in backup copy should you suffer any storage catastrophe. If you like extras, you'll have them too. And you'll actually OWN instead of "lifetime* lease."
Or, for next to nothing, use PLEX Server and have better UX/UI than most anything out there, and be able to watch your media when away. You could also buy physical media that includes Digital codes and have both. Another nifty app (only for Apple) is Infuse. Also a beautiful UX/UI design and will play almost anything in your library.

the whole not doing layoffs thing was a huge mistake.

apple needs to clean house of their lousy engineers, management. maybe lets get rid of timmy himself.
Dude has built them up to a 3 trillion's dollar company when half of the country believes we are in a depression for some reason. Apple would nuts to replace Tim before he is ready to retire.

Apple, you keep doing **** like this and you're gonna lose me. And I've been a loyal customer for years. Enough is enough, respect your customers!

Since yours is an extreme case (800 movies purchased & controlled by "strangers" in the cloud), I'll offer you what is- IMO-the best solution to mostly abandon the Apple TV app and keep building your collection with actually owned, not lifetime* leased media.

Step 1: Get Big Storage for the 800 videos. That's probably one big hard drive. With 20TB hard drives available for as little as < $300 as I write this, taking possession of your library from strangers in the cloud is easy and cheap.
Step 2: Download the 800 from the cloud to your new local storage.
Step 3: Refer back to post #64 and do what is described there. This will index your 800 in the TV app on Mac (or iTunes on old macOS Mac or PCs) while leaving the library on the drive purchased in Step 1.
Step 4: Use the Orange Computers app instead of the AppleTV app on AppleTV to enjoy your movies. No more ads, no more services pitches, no more teasers to content you would have to buy/rent/subscribe for access, etc. Just enjoy.

Among many other things, possessing your content means controlling your content. Continuing to trust a stranger in the cloud to caretake your content would be not very far from trusting a stranger with your bank savings. At any time, anything can happen when someone else controls your stuff. Right now, you are a prime victim in waiting of the mysterious "one of my movies is now missing from my collection" scenarios (which is usually a case of the studios stripping that movie). Step 1 puts you in charge of your stuff. Download your 800 and nobody can rip any of them away. Backup your 800 and a drive failure won't make you lose them either. The whole "cloud" thing facilitates injecting strangers between consumers and their digital stuff. It's easy to imagine all kinds of negative scenarios about that.

Wishlist still exists- just not in the AppleTV app. Access your wishlist on your Mac in the Music app: scroll to footer items to find My Wish List, then click "movies" or "tv show" tabs.

You will likely find that it's also easier to browse individual movies and make any future purchases there too. If you do make more purchases, download them to the Step 1 hard drive and enjoy them on the Computers app on AppleTV.

Since you use your wish list for bargain hunts, refer back to post #13 for a 2 birds with 1 stone solution. The used disc market will very often cost less than the new digital copy of about anything, so you can almost always find a better buy that way vs. waiting & hoping for special sales. Buying a disc means you will actually own the video instead of lifetime* lease, with all of the benefits of owning something (such as easily loaning it to someone else or even selling it to someone else).

Your Silicon Mac has all this incredible power "we" always sling to each other around here, so use that power to rip a digital copy from the disc so you can add it to the Step 1 library and enjoy it just like you do from Apple purchased content. Bonus: In ripping from disc, YOU get to choose the quality of both video and audio vs. strangers in the cloud, so- if you like- you can choose a better quality setting than Apple chooses.

Ripping your own video- just like ripping audio from CDs- will yield files you can enjoy in the Mac's TV app just like you enjoy the latter in the Music app. And both ripped video and ripped Music will flow to AppleTV Computers App via home sharing, where you can enjoy your 800 videos + future purchases, MINUS all of the promotional stuff that the AppleTV app slings in every open.

Otherwise, you can wait and hope Apple will someday get around to introducing formerly-removed features as brand new, "we think you'll love it" features again. Maybe they will. Maybe they won't. But you have the power to adapt to an alt way today if you want it... and cut most Apple and Studio shenanigans mostly out of the equation. Think different.
