Oh, interesting.
Just noticed this morning that PWA have been reactivated.. without installing the update 🤔

Apple must have the ability to remotely enable features by country I guess

Can't wait for emulators to be available in alternative app stores! They should just allow side-loading.
How does one in the Americas access EU alternative app stores?
I have a japanese app store account from when I lived there.... So I imagine just using a VPN I can access EU alt app stores?
No. For starters, you will need to have an EU based Apple ID with payment method.

I really like that Siri can FINALLY read out messages in other languages!
I hope it's the first step to be able to send messages in other languages via Siri, like:
"Siri, send a French message to Pierre."
"Bonjour Pierre, à quelle heure devrions nous nous rencontrer?"

Also, next step with this multi language approach is the ability for maps to use the local language, so it knows how to pronounce street names and cities.

You better pray for EU users. They gonna see crap they have never seen before! The true nightmare has landed to EU!
Please. The only thing we need to pray is that they manage to beat Apple into submission properly and end the malicious compliance.

If the EU can manage that (good luck), then it won’t be long before the rest of the world are BEGGING regulators to do the same in their country.

Well, don’t be. The only ‘significant’ change I’ve seen so far is when I tapped on Safari and was presented with a list of a bunch of some ‘useless’ apps to choose from. I say ‘useless’, because I like Safari and I’m not changing to any other browser.
Well, devs have to the implement changes that Apple now ‘allows’. It’s just been released. Give them a chance!

Did you forget the /s tag? What an over reaction. Apples marketing department is truly fantastic.

So basically the iPhone is no safer than any Android phone as has it has no special security features against malware that makes it stand out form any other phone on the market other than an app store, well that's my take on it, so for all that money we pay it's just as easy to infect as any other brand and it's magic safety sauce is just Apples walled garden when it comes to apps.

I have dual SIMs, one EU, one non-EU. Two AppleIDs, one EU one non EU, on the same phone.
Didn't get the EU prompts for App Store, Browser choices or Wallet... oh well...
Interested to know what setting would trigger it.

There is no reason to limit those charge cycle count things to iPhone 15 series.
The phone shall have that data because if the genius bar can see them, then it shall be available to us as well.

Clearly this is intended as the killer feature to sell more iPhone 15s

Odd thing to pray for. If I don’t like Apple’s business practices, I don’t have to buy their products. That said, I hope the EU and other governments can find some time in their busy schedules to solve some of the more pressing issues facing society.

I read somewhere that the ability to access the alternative app stores is location based - i.e. if you have an EU account, but go outside the EU it will be disabled. Is this true?

If it is, it potentially creates a significant problem for my daughter. She's in college in the UK, and bounces back and forth between Ireland and the UK. She has an Irish Apple ID, so if she does use the alternative stores, will they, and more importantly the apps she downloads, be disabled whenever she goes back to college?

Unable to see the stop watch in the island or lock screen. Is it me or others are having this issue?

Apparently it won’t work with VPNs. The user needs to be physically located in an EU country. From Apple’s support document: “The country or region of your Apple ID must be set to one of the countries or regions of the European Union, and you must be physically located in the European Union.” and “If you leave the European Union for short-term travel, you'll continue to have access to alternative app marketplaces for a grace period. If you're gone for too long, you'll lose access to some features, including installing new alternative app marketplaces. Apps you installed from alternative app marketplaces will continue to function, but they can't be updated by the marketplace you downloaded them from.” (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/118110).

You’re correct. Apple”s support document says: “The country or region of your Apple ID must be set to one of the countries or regions of the European Union, and you must be physically located in the European Union.” and “If you leave the European Union for short-term travel, you'll continue to have access to alternative app marketplaces for a grace period. Also, appd are not disabled when you change storefronts (what Apple calls counties and regions) or use a different Apple ID (but updates will need the correct Apple ID password).

No, you’d have to wipe your phone and use an alternative AppleID. Same goes for things like BBC iPlayer. Geo restricted for the account, not the location.
Actually, this is location based. See Apple“s support document. “The country or region of your Apple ID must be set to one of the countries or regions of the European Union, and you must be physically located in the European Union.” and “If you leave the European Union for short-term travel, you'll continue to have access to alternative app marketplaces for a grace period. Using a VPN will not allow a workaround, apparently.
