Thanks for that. That's relevant to my question above. It seems to me that introduces a security vulnerability for people like my daughter who spends about half her time in the UK and the rest in Ireland. If she can't update apps, she could be left exposed to security issues until she returns home and manages to get an update.Apparently it won’t work with VPNs. The user needs to be physically located in an EU country. From Apple’s support document: “The country or region of your Apple ID must be set to one of the countries or regions of the European Union, and you must be physically located in the European Union.” and “If you leave the European Union for short-term travel, you'll continue to have access to alternative app marketplaces for a grace period. If you're gone for too long, you'll lose access to some features, including installing new alternative app marketplaces. Apps you installed from alternative app marketplaces will continue to function, but they can't be updated by the marketplace you downloaded them from.” (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/118110).
That's not really good enough from a company that's supposedly all about security. I can just about see a reasoning for not allowing new apps to be downloaded from alternative app stores, but not allowing updates to already purchased apps, wherever they're from, is not good.
