Are you incapable of reading? For perspective, it costs less than $1/yr to charge your iPhone.
really? gonna disable from day one, makes no sense to me
You need to think of the world as though you are not the only person on the planet. One device, multiplied by millions.yeah cuz up to 20 watts charging is somehow gonna make a difference.
I charge my phone during the lowest cost timeframe on my electric company TOU rate sheet, which is overnight.
Could you please elaborate? I'm curious about your perspective and what it's based on.This is well intentioned, yet total BS.
Exactly this.I know everything needs to be a culture war these days in the US, but there is something called science that can explain to you what the anthropogenic greenhouse effect is. Not accepting this as fact is as delusional as being a flat earther. You might not agree with how society tries to address these issues, but it doesn’t make the scientific underpinnings less true.
This is not BS. It’s surprising to see how people are stuck in their ways and don’t want to be confronted with the negative impact of their behaviour. This is well intentioned, yet total BS.
Everything is a trade-off in this world. Apple has made it mandatory for Tim to fly private for security and efficiency purposes. One trip on Timmy's private jet will wipe this out for all iphone users
Not quite sure how that changes anything... It's a positive step in the right direction. If we all throw our arms in the air and start howling at the moon because 'Timmy', as CEO of one of the largest companies on the planet, needs to be somewhere fast, is compared to you charging your phone, we're all going to hell in a handbasket. An organically grown, handwoven one of course. One trip on Timmy's private jet will wipe this out for all iphone users
Thanks to the power companies installing smart meters and now operating at time of use billing it would be fairly easy for Apple to know.
Using GPS and triangulation the iPhone can pinpoint your exact location. That location can be cross referenced with state and federal databases to provide the name of the utility providing that locations power.
Then it is just a matter of accessing one of the many real time databases for information regarding originating power production.
That’s not how the feature works. There is no need to zoom in to individual houses. There is only one power grid and it’s the collective supply/demand, greenhouse emission and weather data for the entire region that is aggregated here. You will not get a different icon than your neighbour. Thanks to the power companies installing smart meters and now operating at time of use billing it would be fairly easy for Apple to know.

What? We all get the same power as our neighbours. You just pay more or less depending on the provider and how they (green or not green) produce the electricity they put onto that single net.I guess this is where country differences come up cuz we don’t really have a specific provider by location. It’s what you decide to sign up for. A friend next door pays extra for power from renewable sources (supposedly) while my neighbors have old school gas or oil with a flame (literally) and our apartment complex uses
Sounds like the future to me. Don’t think Germany is that far 😅

Yes, that’s right, that’s exactly what this thread is about. So does that mean I have to clean my iPhone less?
Exactly. Once it’s on the grid it’s dispatched based on a variety of factors. Even if you pay for green energy you don’t necessarily get it; just the producer gets paid extra when on the grid.I still don’t understand how this is supposed to work like how do you even know where your electricity is coming from unless you have your own solar on the roof
I have dynamic pricing and I love it. Charge my home battery when it is cheap overnight and export from my solar panels for more than I pay!Timed energy prices never benefit the customer. The prices will always be the highest when customers need power the most. I know that problem from train tickets.
