Apple posted some brand-new developer photos of what light mode glass is supposed to look like, and it’s much more similar to dark mode glass than it is to the current implementation.

I hope that’s part of what the delay is! Id love to see the glass finished before RC or even 27.1. Not sure what’s taken so long when dark mode looks great.

I cannot see much difference to how it looks in the current (DB4) beta with the LG slider set to the clearest (all the way to the left):

The new photos show a dark shading in the center of each button, but I don’t think that’s the intention.

I believe the intention is to visualize bright specular HDR highlights, such as this example from MacOS. You’ll need to view it on an HDR-capable display to see the highlights, assuming it loads properly on this site:

Yes, I see, on MacOS the buttons and entry fields look almost embossed.

Yes, the Gamery app developer did a pretty deep dive here. That’s where I got the screenshot from, which now seems to be compressed with specular highlights removed and flattened on this page.

TLDR:

The effect is achieved by rendering both the button and its highlights using extended HDR brightness values. This allows the controls to retain a convincing sense of depth even against a pure white window background.

Here are the numbers: the window background is rendered at pure white (1.0), the button itself at extended white (1.019), and the highlight around the button at 1.123. Those differences may sound small, but they're immediately noticeable.

Well tinted mode is completely broken, so there is that.

Fully-tinted is really ugly in a few areas, especially where it applies dark mode tinting to light mode components. What else are you seeing that is broken?

I do not think it will come today. While I do remember a revised beta build released on a Friday a long while ago (some time between 2012-2014?), releasing a new beta on a Friday makes no sense, as it will be more difficult to troubleshoot over the weekend should anything go wrong. So my guess is the beginning of the next week.
