iOS 4.2 GM

I found the iOS 4.2 GM still has bugs - I found that icon rearranging was slow to "start wiggling" and slow to stop when the home button was pushed. Otherwise, it seemed slightly slower overall, on a 3GS.

Hmm, Weatherbug's update states the app is iOS 4.2 compatible. Leads me to believe it is closer than some might think.

No mention of an iOS update for AppleTV 2. Airplay works yet video play to the AppleTV 2 results in only audio with a picture and timeline of the streamed video but no motion (similar to what you experience when listening). I was informed an AppleTV 2 iOS update is required. Any word?

Not really. If you never knew about MacRumors, you wouldn't are. Apple said iOS 4.2 will be released in November. We still have 19 days of November left. Its only November 11 (my birthday) The white iPhone 4 was suppose to ship in July, then delayed to the end of this year, then delayed to spring on 2011. If Apple releases iOS 4.2 on November 30, 2010, they would still be on time.

Happy birthday too! 11/11 at 11:11 am here. :)

Is there any chance for Apple to release yet another build??? I really hope so because iOS 4.2 GM has rendered my iPhone 4 almost unusable due to constant glitches, freezes. It doesn't feel smooth anymore. I hate it so much now.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The honeymoon period for my iPad wore off months ago. I'm not blinded by the "oooh shiny Apple gadget", and I realize now that it has major shortcomings and it SHOULD have shipped as I said.

Especially when you consider the fact that the iPad itself cost more than a reasonably powerful computer, and the 3G 64GB version costing as much as a self-built PC that would rival the Mac Pro in terms of overall power (and beat it significantly in GPU power). The iPad as it is now is an unfinished product. It needs 4.2. Desperately. It should have shipped with 4.x. Especially considering how much it cost.

Here's my guess. So, the new apple tv in japan was stated that it will be releases by the end of the week. So, tomorrow. And being this close to 4.2, they would be shipped with 4.2 installed. So with that being said, tomorrow it is.

Good news.

The GM needs the WiFi fixed. Beta 3 was rock solid but the GM has been awful.

Definitely need a GM2 release.

Looking forward to the update....

Looking forward to the update but do not expect that it will have a material effect on my life.

Apple wouldn't give a beta of it cause it doesn't have an app store. The only reason they have pub betas is to get devs apps ready.

How bout giving us a unified iOS forum or sub-forum for iOS discussion MR.

That's not a bad idea!

I don't know whether you are talking about all the icons or just folder icons, but apple engineers told me when folders were released that the folder icons are purposly made to take longer to "wiggle" than app icons. But if all of them are slow to start wiggling/stop wiggling then yeah, bug.

Even though I'm a developer, I decided against installing this round of Beta's. I only have money enough to have 1 phone (no ipod Touch, iPad, etc) and the bugs from the last round of betas for our current 4.1 OS made my phone practically useless for the duration of the Beta period. So I can't install and see how buggy these are, but I can enjoy the wait that the non-devs are enduring ;)

C'mon Apple :apple: (but get this one right! :p)

My question though is why? The GM is made, *10.6.5 is out, unless iTunes 10.1 is the problem.

Rumor has it that they found a WiFi bug in the Golden Master. If true then I must complement Apple for the restraint. Better to delay and get it right than to cast upon us another buggy software release. Lets face it 4.x up and until now has been less than golden.

But that is a rumor I'd like to know as much as you what is really happening. It could be the rumored release date of Friday was simply wrong in the first place.

Ever since I installed iOS 4.2 GM on my iPad I have noticed a decrease in battery life. Am I the only one?

On an iPhone 4 i've actually noticed an increase in batt life but iPad's story may be different.

I just tested this and can't say i have the issue, maybe it's 3GS specific though.

What's the issue? i haven't noticed anything weird on my end.

EDIT: Nevermind, the issue is with iPads

It's because of the wifi problems testers have been experiencing with the new 4.2 update.

If thats your attempt at sarcasm then it seems you missed it by a country mile

Out of touch are we? The possibility of a WiFi bug is the leading rumor right now.

"I'm with you there. I'm picking mine up tomorrow. I haven't been following iPad stuff at all. Had no idea they weren't on the same iOS as my iP4. Oh, well. I'm still going to pick one up tomorrow".

The iOS is different on iPad, things like photos, app store, iPod and safari are more akin to mac versions then iOS versions. I presume that's why it takes longer to sort.
