Air print sucks in it's current form. Who can use it? About .009% of people... Maybe they should of waited until they had more drivers for other printers.

Really, 5 printers work with it now? The concept is great but the rollout sucks!

Why do you need to post this twice?
Anyway, if you need AirPrint from othe printers than the compatible ones, just buy a copy of Printopia (if you have a Mac) and you will enjoy AirPrint with every printer shared on your Mac.

3 hours, still no verification email from mobileme, so no find my iphone for me.

not sure why apple's servers always are so ill-prepared to handle these new feature rollouts, but it really just tarnishes their image of being a pretty tightly run ship. last few software and hardware updates that include feature upgrades have been brutal.

not that the alternatives are any better, but it would make sense for apple to either stagger rollouts or upgrade their datacenters so that when its user base is expecting new features, they can get them as opposed to being frustrated by their 'hurry up and wait' policy.

150million ios users...what do you expect?

All the Ipad users were waiting since day one for iOS 4.2....

This is a hot update....just be patient.

AirPlay for new ATV only?

I downloaded and installed 4.2, have all other current software (10.5.6), and iPhone 3GS, but am not seeing any options for AirPlay. I have the "old" ATV. Do I need the new one?

Also, AirPrint not recognizing my HP printer plugged directly into my Airport Express. What's the point?

Anyone else notice the ugly new Voice Recorder icon? The beautifully detailed microphone on the former icon has been replaced with a flat blue cartoon. It's like a step backwards.

Dude I agree...but its just an icon...make a complaint to Apple.com and they will change it in the future.

For some reason AirPlay doesn't work with the old Apple TV. Not even audio as far as I know.
And AirPrint requires a very recent Hp Printer that has something like "ePrint" in it's name.

Agreed! It's a mystery -- especially as it reportedly worked in some of the 4.2 betas. Will we see better support in a new iTunes (or OS X) point-release before the holidays? It's anyone's guess :D

Will have to look into the Printopia thing. Thank you for the lead! :)

Blame the printer manufacturers, not Apple. Things like this need time to catch on. There have been recent articles about companies doing the wait and see... I'll reserve judgement on air print for a few months.

But... why even print. Paperless is the way to go - I've had almost 0 reason to print even from my home and work PCs. Mailing labels and pre-printing airline tickets is about it, and one of those isn't even necessary.

everyone on the UK, could you manage to update or is the server also down for you? been like this for the past three hours. ugh...

which is why i said it should be staggered.

there are not 150million people updating at once.

and again, when you roll out something promising new features, and those features arent available/working correctly, it's called overpromising, under-delivering.

also, again my problem is not with the update, which went off without a hitch..but with the ensuing findmyiphone feature, which i cant set up on my phone because i am awaiting a verification email, which may or may not be coming soon.

i've been patient. i was patient for the proximity sensor (which still isnt fixed on many phones including mine), for the antenna issue, for the software bugs, etc. But nothing changes in apple's rollout process.

You wouldnt go to a restaurant that serves prepared foods, and be satisfied if they served you a raw chicken would you?

Sorry but apple is not above criticism. If there are too many users, then again, stagger the rollout. this could have been split into groups. Ipad 4.2 first, Iphone 4 and current gen Ipod touch second, 3GS third, and so on.

i dont even own an ipad, and i'd still be fine with being told i'll get my update for my phone on day 2 if it means everything will work correctly the first time. as it stands, i dont know when to expect a verification email. when ping rolled out, i had to wait weeks to get it working on my phone while others had it working right away. thats inconsistency at its worst.

Took about 20 mins to download, I did it about 7pm. After finishing iPad I did iPhone. Another 20 mins. (got BT)

I'm in central UK. I've got 30MB left to download (which is taking forever), and I started downloading as soon as it was out about 4 - 4.5 hours ago (speedtest.net says I've got speeds of 19M DL /0.7M UL)

So I updated my iPad to the new iOS 4.2 and my AppleTV to the new 4.1. After rebooting the iPad, I was able to stream videos (with audio) just fine from the iPad to the AppleTV within the Videos and YouTube apps, but not videos embedded in a webpage in Safari. For those, the iPad only gives me the option to stream audio. If I do that, the video will play within Safari on the iPad and the audio switches over to the speakers connected to the AppleTV. Is it supposed to work this way? Would appreciate hearing others' experiences when trying to stream video from within Safari. Thanks.

There has been discussion about this in the last couple of pages.

Why print? For the reasons you stated and I have kids in school = homework that needs to be printed, completed and turned in. Air print will be great for that once it is more accepted...

Not only that, you would think they would have updated their dam idisk program to let you print off documents from it. Neither ibooks nor idisk can print the files in an iphone.

Airprint and Airplay are severely crippled. What were these guys thinking?

Making folders on iTunes for my iPad. I wish there was a Wizard feature to do most of the work. It can take a long time with a lot of apps.

The printing thing is interesting but it seems so 80's style computing.

Because some financial and other professional institutions require paper. That's about the only time I ever print these days.

Tell me about it! First 200MB took 2 min, then the second 100 took an hour and a half....apparently i still have 3 hours to wait, no idea why it seems to be working smoothly for some and not for others :( my friend just downloaded it on a dongle in a fraction of the time....sad times...i should probably get some patience haha

so the Airplay doesn't show up on iPhone 4 unless there's Apple TV or Airport Express around?

Remember the Apple minimalism philosophy: if it's not necessary/useful/available, don't present it. If you can't print, don't show a print button.

Just adding my...

....downloading now message!

Well, actually I'm not; still at work

...downloading....soon.

:D

Anyway, it will be nice to have 4.0 on my iPad. Can't put it on the iPhone yet (jailbroken). The leap on the iPad will be sweet though. I, for one, want the unified inbox and folders.
