Not expecting a whole lot for 2nd gen iPod Touch with the update, but it's free, so what the heck.

Anyone know the final build number on this? I'm currently running 4.0 (8A293).

3GS with iOS4 versus Iphone4

Anyone have full software feature compatibility list of 3GS + iOS4 versus iPhone4 ?

theres going to be things that annoy you, like when you use folders. open an application in the folder, close the app and the folder is still open. why they did this and not have the folder close when you open an app so when you quit it was the springboard? i have no idea. multitasking needs a revamp too, like maybe a preference pane that allows you to choose which apps you want to always background, which ones you dont. every app backgrounding when you close it is a little overboard.
What are you going on about? Why would springboard change its state when you leave it?

Oh yeah, waiting for iOS4 on my iPhone gen 1 (confirmed to be working on modmyi).

:)

Yeah, but compare that to 3mb on the 128mb. That's why they excluded it. They put on the 3GS, because it is feasible.

Look, if they wanted you to upgrade, custom wallpaper wouldn't be on the 3GS would it? They want you to upgrade to the 4, so if removing wallpaper is a ploy to make people upgrade, why include it on the 3GS?

If you load as much crap onto it as I have on my 3GS then yeah, but you can't even do that without jailbreaking.

They still sell the 3GS, that's why. It still serves as the entry-level iPhone.

I have a 2nd gen ipod touch, and I am a little disappointed that I won't be able to get that many of the major new features of iOS 4, but I guess I can buy a new one.

hmmmm well its only 11am eastern time, maybe they will release it later in the day. i mean we can all b patience and wait! its just the software upgrade! and we will ALL have it by tonight (probably) what we should be impatience abou is getting the new iphone!

Emm, I have an 8GB 2G iPod Touch. Three pages of apps. It has 3mb free when playing music and viewing stats.

The second point is fair though. MMS was certainly a ploy to upgrade, but I still disagree on the custom wallpaper exclusion.

I would also like to know this. I am currently having problems with Notes not syncing properly. If I make an edit in Mail.app the Notes app on the iPhone doesn't update reliably. Kind of a let down if this is the final implementation.

The whole of Europe isn't one time zone.

6pm has been reported as the UK time.

so this means that it will be around 7pm or 19u for belgium, france, netherlands, germany, spain, poland, austria, swiss, italy!

Just to make things clear :D

WHICH IS IT?! :D

I assume it's 6, since that's what all the reports are saying (just got off my proverbal ass and did a Google).

This is interesting reading for the wait.

There are some mistakes in this article, the rotate photos feature was taken out after the first beta. really annoying because it was actually very useful.

I never updated to 3.1.3, and iTunes wants to update me to that at the moment. I hope it'll see the 4.0 update, there's no "Check for update" button for me, just a button to update to 3.1.3.

Does anyone know if it's possible to update and keep your media without downloading the update through your iTunes? My computer is in for repairs.

Nope, you're the only one. I'm not reading the dialog that says "This version of the iPhone software (3.1.3)is the current version" either. I would imagine you're not either? :)

Phil

When I synced this morning I thought it odd that it came back and told me it would automatically check again on June 28th?? (with no new download obviously?) that is when I came here looking for answers.

You can't update OTA and you can't keep your data if you update with someone else's library. Well, you MIGHT if you plug it in and tick "Manually manage media" (paraphrasing, but it's something like that) on your iPhone page in iTunes.

No harm in trying, if it does try deleting anything from your phone it'll warn you first and you'll have to confirm.

no you're not the only one.

Experienced Apple users NEVER use the first gen of anything without waiting for comments from early adopters.

While 4.0 maybe the Golden Master release, I'd like to see a few comments before #$$% up my current 3GS set up.

Despite field testing the broader audience digs out enough issues to make Apple get things 99% functioning for most.

To be honest I have been checking a few times too, as this software has sooo many things that will get rid of many annoyances.

But, I will wait for the comments to pour in:)
