IOS 4 is looking alot like the first 2 days of pre-selling the IPhone 4. Great idea but implementation sucks. Here's a thought....put the idea guy in touch with a logistics guy..........

The easiest upgrade so far

I must say that this has been the easiest upgrade so far. even on the 3G, although it's taken a while, the final stages of the upgrade has left my phone usable while it finishes in the background, Thanks Steve.

So does the fast app switching at least work with the 3G? is there any reason to upgrade? I have been keeping my phone on 3.12 for the hacked baseband so I can tether to my work PC, which has proven to be really useful when away from the office.

Also, does iOS 4 allow bluetooth keyboard tethering now?

Fast App Switching is not available for iPhone 3G. I do not have a bluetooth keyboard so I can't answer definitively on that one.

Fast app switching and bluetooth keyboard are both unavailable for the 3G.

What are you talking about?! It's one of the best and smoothest OS updates for Apple. Of course there will be your occasional error here and there, but overall iOS4 rolled out pretty smooth compared to previous ones.

Thanks for the info,

Looking at itunes this morning, iOS4 isn't available yet in Japan it seems.

But like hell I am going to upgrade and loose my tethering

agreed

maybe i'm showing my age here... but i've never seen a background image on the home page that looks better than just the black screen.

every background i've seen looks terrible, and only makes it way harder to see the icons.

i know people have been clamoring for background images... i just think they all suck. is it just me?

I totally agree. i would really have to have the exact right image that would work better as a background. maybe a different color completely, like charcoal...who knows!

So I tried about five times, and got an error everytime, before finally getting the dreaded "USB to Itunes" logo and having to restore the whole thing. Tried doing the backup, and it installed most of my apps before saying I didn't have enough room. Now the main summary page says my storage is only 4gb!:mad:

I don't think apple will allow video recording on 3G due to it only being 15 FPS

Had it on my 2G original iPhone for years, it works brilliantly , slow frame rate but that gives a cool effect, one reason why I use it instead of my video camera sometimes. Cycorder...you need a jail broken phone

Nope Not Gonna Do It!

After 45 minutes of backup and reading this thread, I cancelled my backup and decided I'm not going to install this on my 3G and patiently wait for iPhone 4 on Thursday!

This iOS 4 upgrade has rendered my iPhone 3G practically useless. It is slower than molasses. Great job, Apple. No, I guess I need to buy the iPhone 4 if I want a functional smart phone.

its slow at first, but wait til spotlight can do an index of all your files. Once thats done, it's just as fast as it was, maybe even a bit smoother.

But theres almost no point in upgrading to 4.0 if you have a 3G....most of the new features are non-existent (which is bulls*it...backgrounds and rotation lock does not require a newer phone). Oh well, im sure i'll be forced to upgrade to the iPhone4 if i want to enjoy any of these new features that should have been around since day 1.

Major FLAW in iOS4???

Major FLAW in iOS4!

I upgrade about an hour ago and now when I connect it into my AUX in my car NO SOUND!!! I get a very very low sound and thts when I turn it up all the way on my Stereo.

Is anyone else having this problem???

It was working fine before I upgraded it to !?

I have a iPhone 3Gs a little over a month old.

Ej-

I have a 3G and the backup is taking FOREVER.

It has been about 10 minutes and only 4 pixels of the progress bar are filled. At this rate, I will pick up my iPhone 4 before the backup finishes.

I have a 3G. The backup process took over an hour. The progress bar wouldn't budge beyond the 'c' in backup that whole time. Finally it started moving and then it proceeded at a nice clip.

I've had no problems with iOS 4 on my 3G. Folders are nice and I like the unified inbox/threading. It may just be my imagination, but I feel like the OS is more responsive. Perhaps there is better memory management under the hood contributing to that.

For those who have completed installation: is the ability to stream audio over Bluetooth--like in a car's stereo system--functioning?

Backup is one of the things that iOS4 improves amazingly! My backups for 3GS with iOS4 are unbelievably faster than on iOS3.

Download and installation was a snap, software runs perfectly on my 3GS. In fact, it is so good I may not upgrade to the iPhone 4 as I planned. I can't believe how well fast app switching works and I love the new mail and folders. Brilliant, simply brilliant.

gm vs final

Ok what is going on here... i have gm installed and 1 itunes doesnt recognize that there is even a difference between gm and final, just says "your software is up to date". 2 they have the same build number and when looking at the files there is only a 400kb difference. Are they the same thing????

i just put 0s 4 on my iphone 3g, but when i double tap the home button it does not show all the apps that are running, it just go to the favorite i set for when you double tap the home button before the upgrade....any thoughts? the software shows version 4.0 and all the features seems to be there.
thanks

Yes, the gold master and today's release are the same, sans the Game Center, which is not the public release.
