anyone know why this is....i just put 0s 4 on my iphone 3g, but when i double tap the home button it does not show all the apps that are running, it just go to the favorite i set for when you double tap the home button before the upgrade....any thoughts? the software shows version 4.0 and all the features seems to be there.
thanks

I installed iOS4 on my 3G earlier today and all day it has been just fine as far as speed goes. Absolutely no problems on my end. I'm not sure what is happening when people complain about the speed, but as far as I can tell it's just as fast if not faster than it was previously. Now, I haven't used a 3GS or the iPhone 4 yet, so my idea of fast is a bit skewed, but it works well, and is definitely not "dog slow" as some have said.

If you have a 3G, I say do the upgrade to iOS4. It takes awhile to download and install but be patient. Grab a few beers and sit back, if that doesn't make the wait better, then well, I feel bad for you, its only a couple hours, there are many other things in life WAY more important worth waiting a hell of a lot longer for. In other words, if the wait for iOS4 is too long for you, you need to grow up, or grow a pair, either one works.

Multitasking and quick app switching do NOT work on the 3G. These are features specifically for the 3GS and iPhone 4 (as well as the latest iPod touch).

I was worried about some of the comments concerning the slowing down of the phone after installing, but I installed it on my 3G and there has been no performance difference. Thank goodness... but also, no real reason to even download for us 3G owners... I have a slightly different dock now.. yay..

iPod broken?

After installing iOS 4, when I select iPod, it goes right back to the icon screen, can't play anything. Have turned phone off then on, still happening. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS

Orientation lock

CAN, some one Please tell me how to enable this, for sms, on a 3gs, running ios4. I have searched for an hour, on these forums. Thanks.

What are you talking about?! It's one of the best and smoothest OS updates for Apple. Of course there will be your occasional error here and there, but overall iOS4 rolled out pretty smooth compared to previous ones.

I am now on my fifth hour of trying to install this on my 3G....It downloads ok but then it gets STUCK and says "Backing up Joe's Iphone..." while the green bar stays stuck at about 5% - 10% across.

This after wasting over 12 hours last week on the pre-order disaster. The disregard and disrespect for their customers is staggering. Apple has quickly gone from a company I admired to one that I feel is increasingly inept.

Can't wait until Thursday for the next debacle. Should be an unmitigated horror show based on what we have had to endure here the past week.

Definitely not the smoothest iPhone OS upgrade, at least on my 3G. After downloading and installing, it kept telling me that my phone was synced to another iTunes library (it wasn't), and asking if I wanted to erase and sync. Then it gave me errors when trying to sync each and every file - apps, music, podcasts, photos, etc., saying that it couldn't find the files. After fiddling with it and getting several more errors and failed attempts, it finally looks like it is syncing now.

Hopefully things go a lot smoother when I get my iPhone 4 in a couple of days.

Ok what is going on here... i have gm installed and 1 itunes doesnt recognize that there is even a difference between gm and final, just says "your software is up to date". 2 they have the same build number and when looking at the files there is only a 400kb difference. Are they the same thing????

They are the same thing. Normally a GM is the final release.

While upgrading to iOS4 on my 3G I noticed I got the water droplet background, once it finished no dice. Oh well, three days until iPhone 4.

well that explains it thanks. what about the ability to have a picture wallpaper on the apps pages will that work for the 3g?

maybe i'm showing my age here... but i've never seen a background image on the home page that looks better than just the black screen.

every background i've seen looks terrible, and only makes it way harder to see the icons.

i know people have been clamoring for background images... i just think they all suck. is it just me?

You gotta dive into Folders 100% and then it all comes together. I haven't re-synced all my apps cuz my iPhone 4 is coming on thursday but u get the idea.

didn't work by going thru the update.....finally the 2nd call the Apple Tech Support they confirmed that the best way was to restore....not exactly the front door of updating new software I'm thinking..............

I have a 3G and at one point during my upgrade the phone stopped saying sync and I unlocked to see a wallpaper and a message telling me about the new screen then it went back to syncing and when it finished it was gone! Anyone else have this happen to them?????

same here!!! what gives, if it happened once means it should allow it. Getting tired of apple yet cant wait for my new iPhone4

No, I guess not... From the home screen? Or in the app? It just brings up multitasking dock, swiping after that just ends the dock?

You should be able to swipe to the right, revealing some iPod controls, and, at the far left, the screen lock icon.

That is, move your finger in this --------> direction.

Edit: not from in the app: from the screen you get after double tapping the home button. Which iPhone do you have?

Okay... Thanks, I guess I really look like a dumb ass now. LOL I hate icons, whats wrong with text saying that.. LOL. It looked like a refresh button for the ipod or something??
Anyway thanks.

iOS4 runs fine on my 3G. The longest part was deciding which app should go into what folder & what to call said folder.

I did a backup before I upgraded to iOS4 so it was much faster than some people who did a backup during the upgrade.
