iOS 5 Bugs/Disappointments

Well, first let me start off with a bug. When ever you get a text the top scrolls down a little to show the new notification, but when you slide the notification center down there isnt any text messages. Now on to the disappointment. Thinking that, that was a little bug I backed up my iPhone to iCloud and then restored. Once I got to the set up screen I chose restore from iCloud back up and after everything was done the only thing on my iPhone from the back up is my contacts and texts. Photos and apps were deleted. I'm actually extreme saddened by that and wonder what will happen when we set up our iPhone 5's from an iCloud back up?

If I wanted to go back to ios 4 can I? I know the update registers with apple but is there a way to go back?? Thanks!

About the iCloud restore, Apple has said that it isn't fully supported/working in the first beta. Your data is (most likely) still in the cloud, you just can't pull it down yet.

Very easy: Download the ipsw file of iOS 4.3.3 for your device, put your phone in DFU mode and restore in iTunes.

Hi. Do you realize that the iOS 5.0 BETA is for developers only to test their apps on their development devices? It is not meant for the casual user to install on their every day device. Your "disappointments" are unfound and could have been prevented if you had read the accompanied development documentation.

Question: Why did you not have the time to read the developer's notes for the iOS 5.0 beta release, but had time to post here complaining about it?

agreed, there should be no disappoint that a BETA does not work 100% becasue its not suppose to, cant the mods make an announcement at the top to say NO MORE IOS5 threads, go discuss it on the apple dev forum

That's a good point. When the user downloads iOS 5.0 beta, they signed an agreement that said they will not discuss iOS 5.0 beta outside of the Apple developer forums. The people that stole iOS 5.0 beta, well, they should be shot :)

It simply blows my mind that people don't realize it's a first beta release of a major OS upgrade and that a lot of things aren't going to work. Duh!

even more of a reason, we cant discuss other things against forum rules and those threads are close fairly fast im confused why mods are so slow to react to this, its really geting out of hand i can barely find a thread thats not about iOS 5 on here

The only major bug that I really have is taking a picture from the lockscreen w/flash on. Thats the only real problem. Besides that everything else is good =).

You have to appreciate that there are people who do not have the Beta, who are genuinely excited about the release of iOS 5, who want to talk about it also.

You can't tar the entire forum with the same brush, sorry.

Not a complaint, not a moan, just an observation having used iPhone Explorer.

I used to use iPhone Explorer on 4.3.3 (non Jailbroken) to change the icon artwork on apps which had been left, lazily, untouched to make them look good on the Retina Display.

It annoys me having gritty, pixellated icons amongst the high resolution ones, and there's no excuse for it given that iTunes shows high resolution artwork for all app icons, even on the App Store ON the iPhone!

On 4.3.3 you can go into iPhone Explorer and change the icon.png file for a 175x175 (or 512x512 if you like, the phone resizes it regardless) image. High resolution icons for most apps can be found with a Google search, and I updated the likes of GTA Chinatown Wars and Sonic 4 with high resolution icons. I liked this because I used to jailbreak to use iRetiner GUI to make all non-Retina adapted icons use their App Store counterparts instead. I don't like being jailbroken though, so iPhone Explorer was ideal for this "issue".

On iOS 5 Beta 1, you can browse the iPhone no problem, find the icon.png and even replace it. However, when you reboot the iPhone, the old grainy artwork persists, despite you replacing it with a higher resolution one. Weird, but again it's only a Beta so I'm not complaining, just giving people a heads up.

I simply cannot comprehend people defending the stupidity of others.

Care to explain what stupidity I was defending? Threads started by people who are complaining about the incompleteness of iOS 5 bug me a lot (and you could probably do a MR search and find where I say exactly that). But that doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of good discussions out there right now about the features/bugs in the Beta that are worth reading. All my comment was saying is that there is no Macrumors forum rule against talking about the Beta.

Wow.... really? Why don't you go type "NDA" into acronymfinder or something....

It may not be explicitly against forum rules, but it breaches the contract developers agree to with Apple

But that's a problem between the developer violating the NDA and Apple. Macrumors has rules that prohibit posting serial keys or referring people to torrents or pirating websites. But there's no rule that says a person can't violate their NDA and discuss things.

yup you might as well say your "pirated" the iOS and "pirating" is against forum rules

As I noted above, it is against the rules to post serial keys, torrent sites, etc. But there's no rule against expressing support for piracy (for the record, I don't support it) or saying you pirate things.

i disagree threads saying "wht dont my installous apps work" get closed so whats the difference here? legit iOS5 users would be discussing on the apple dev sight not here
