The new screen size will be irrelevant. Apps will work just fine on the new iPhone if they aren't optimized for it. Same with the iPhone 4 and retina display, and same with the original iPad - all apps worked. And since pixels are only being added in one direction, rather than an entirely new resolution, development on some apps shouldn't take too long at all.

I think you are minimizing the impact more than necessary. Going to a new resolution that is taller is a much different thing then simply doubling the resolution.

And what about those apps that don't have updates? How will they run on a screen with more height?

I'd say that apps without updates will run with black bars at the top and bottom, much like running an iPhone app on an iPad works. If the screen size is bigger, Apple will have a solution. It probably won't look very good, because they always want devs to switch to the new way of doing things, but it'll work.

How does a t.v. Display a show shot in 4:3 on a 16:9 screen?

iOS will put black bars on either side or provide a "stretch" option...and that's assuming the screen will actually be bigger. Not in the betas as that would give it away.

I'm one of the people in the camp that the says the phone will NOT look like the leaked parts...but if it does, eh...

I'm also have a gut feeling too about the design of the leaked parts, don't make sense just making it taller need proportionate with size also. Probably it's apple way this year instead of leaving a iPhone at a bar just leak some fake parts.

Your kidding right?
Who pays $100 for a dev licence for a year???
I paid $4.99 and have received all 4 beta releases for ios6.

Actual developers pay $100 a year for a license. And the $4.99 you paid for all 4 betas was $4.99 more than you needed to pay, seeing as since the betas are OTA you could have downloaded them for no cost if you know where to look.

You…*don't actually understand how this stuff works, do you?

Yesterday I set date on iPhone as October, 4. And now iOS 6 beta 4 is expired, iPhone can not complete activation. I can not set date back because iOS does not let me do this because of wrong date. So I am soo waiting for beta 5. Or GM.

That was dumb.

Google DFU mode, and restore.

Apple probably won't release iOS 6 until the iPhone 5 launches, which is apparently going to be the 21st. So there's time. We could see a Beta 5 and 6 and then have a week or more before the 21st.

For those of you who still keep hoping for a beta 5 and beta 6, there is absolutely no way that's going to happen. Here's my reasoning: Next Monday is Labor Day and Apple will not release a beta on a holiday--they want their employees to enjoy the long weekend, too. Then what's left Friday, Sept. 7? That's less then a week from Sept. 12 and they won't release a beta 5 only to release the GM a few days later. So, all the people hoping for new beta, sit tight for a few more weeks and you'll have yourselves a brand new GM.

Rumour has it that it will be announced on September 12, and released on the 21st, which would give them ample time to release a 5th Beta before the GM.

12 and 21 are that, just rumors. They are not reaching those dates.

Sure, they may have ample time but it's not something that Apple does. Not sure if you've been paying attention the last couple years...

don't you have important stuff on your phone? LOOOOL

It's certainly not going to be any sooner though. So if it turns out those dates are false (and I don't believe they are) then we've got even more time.

Of course I've been paying attention. I don't see Apple going from iOS 6 Beta 4 to a GM after three weeks. I expect there will be at least another Beta -- quite possibly on the 5th of September. That would leave one week until the Keynote on the 12th.
